Summary: The girl currently wielding the Sword of the Rose is not the first girl to name herself after the sword. Originally, it appeared in an 'junkque" shop run by a mysterious woman. This woman, calling herself "Lessa Sebastian" entrusted the sword to a girl called Lelani.
Lelani made a successful go of cutting a Zorro like figure, until she fell in love with a Praetorian rebel. In turn, she entrusted the sword to another girl who made her way to Paragon City..going so far as to attend PJSA until her death during the fall of Galaxy City...which is where Haru comes in.
Haru managed to survive the collapse of the gymnasium she was in, defending herself against Shivans with her foil until it was broken. In hunting for another weapon for self defense (for the Shivan was practically breathing down her neck), she came across a body still holding what appeared to be a sword with a rose motif. Grabbing the sword, she managed to fight off the Shivan, realizing only later that she had used super-speed in addition to her own reflexes.
Teaming up with a PJSA student and others caught in the devastation, Rose managed to fight her way out to safety, and taken to PJSA for shelter while authorities searched for her parents. During the waiting period, the body of Rose II was identified, and Haru's sword verified as the Rose Sword.
When it was discovered that her parents were killed in the disaster, Haru registered at PJSA as a student sponsored by the school's patron, Arithon Kerson (who later became her guardian). Having no where else to go, she had decided to stay put at least until the end of the school year. The day after she registered, the sword transformed her into what Haru calls 'the girly girl uniform'- a burgundy style military uniform complete with pink hair. For the tomboy Haru, this was an insult..although she did eventually concede that it was a more useful disguise than a mask.
Misc.
This is the third character with the name "The Rose of Paragon"...mostly because I struggled with the concept for a good long time, only hitting on the idea of Haruka Tenjou at the same time that the new starter area was made. Ironically, I've come full circle with the concept, finally accepting all the discarded ideas I'd had in trying to create her...she was originally conceived as an androgynous character (and stubbornly remains so) and then crammed into several pigeonholes as I tried to move away from the concept. As she is now, she is more in the tradition of the 'Princess Knight" genre of manga...a girl who embodies the virtues and traditions of the chivalry as embodied by medieval knights of England and France.
Not to mention she's pretty fun to play now!
