Tyrone tries to embody all things decent but he is only a man out of time. He often runs into conflicts of heroes of this new age as his ideals don't seem to match their own. Tyrone doesn't totally agree with the established system of laws and thinks quite a few had a bad break so tries to help when he can. On a regular basis he helps troubled youths. |
History
Tyrone Hammer grew up in Harlem during the 1950's-1960's. Crime and drugs as well as many other crimes were on the rise by that time. His father Abigail Hammer worked as a mechanic for very minimal pay and had suffered the death of his wife early on in his first child's life. While not leading to resentment there was a distance between them. Though Tyrone always thought of his father as a good man.
Later on as he was growing up with barely any supervision Tyrone would fall in with the wrong crowds more than once. Finally he was ended up arrested for stealing a car. Little is known of the incident but presumably a african american hero from the local neighborhood got him leniancy at the trial. Once again it apears Tyrone kind of left the grid as he went off to train himself to perhaps model himself after that hero. Possibly training with him?
The next time Tyrone made an apearance he showed up in 1974 stopping a convenience store robbery in Harlem. He only used his bare hands against four armed opponents. One of which got away who was a black youth later captured by implication from one of the fellow offenders looking for a reduced sentence. Offender in question was Shamalah Goodman. There was a large legal team that commuted his sentence to nearly nothing. Many think The Hammer was funding it but that is unknown. Regardless the locale papers wrote a story about the Harlem Hammer. He had given no name during this incursion and it just stuck.
Around 1977 the streets of Harlem and Hell's Kitchen were being flooded with a new drug. Presumably the first testing of Superadryne. Criminals in the area went into murderous rages and a lot of heroes started using methods a little more lethal. Tyrone was amongst them giving severe lacerations to a criminal called Jeremy Jones. All charges were dropped for counts of arson, murder, rape, and extortion. Jones was found a year later decapitated in his residence without a weapon.
Brief apeareances of a team forming up in Harlem happened in 1978. They called themselves the Funky Five and while in a new costume it apeared the Harlem Hammer acted as spokesman. Their message seemed to be grounded in taking back the neighborhoods and warning people they will hit hard according to many statements. It was never quite clear who was all in the roster. But by 1979 they were never seen again.
In 2010 it is rumored that the Harlem Hammer has returned and while this reporter is skeptical, I met him once as a kid in 1974. He saved my life. And I hope he is back. Because I know we need him more than ever.

Out of time
Tyrone awoke when his old enemies headquarters was being rezoned. The Pusher had long since past away, but the damage was already done. He lost around thirty years of his life, a wife who died of old age, and pretty much anyone and everyone he ever knew. It was a very difficult turn at best. New cultures, new politics, new technology, the entire world had changed. One thing saved him from the brink as the government paid him thirty years of back taxes which turned out to be a very large sum of money.
He had never been much of a materialistic sort so this brought little comfort. This is when he turned to his adopted son Shamlah. His son had turned into a full time reporter and his advice was do what you always do save the kids. Tyrone took that to heart and formed a youth orginization. Which it is not the best one it keeps troubled youths off the street for a night and also offers a G.E.D. program. With the muster of some very high paid lawyers The Hammer Foundation was formed. It sponsors many different types of charity events and causes of a humanitarian nature. Though not always in attendance for every event Tyrone oversees them all with an extreme dillegence.
A few months into this by coincidence he met a bartender at the Pocket D called Deon. He was horribly disfigured by burns and homeless. Hammer simply couldn't abide that and still owning a loft apartment offered him a place to live. Deon insisted on paying rent and the two have been best friends since. The bartender ended up being a very smart man and taught Ty a lot about current society, technology, etc. Through this connection he knew he had to do even more.
The Next Step
The Hammer was back on the streets full time waging a war on crime. Nearly relentless in his pursuit as if he had to make up for everything that had gone wrong. If he wasn't on the street he was lecturing heroes or working at the foundation tirelessly. Trying to do every miniscule thing on his own. And it wore on him heavily. Around this time he met Rockford Pennington. Who oddly smelled him as a troll. Not sure what to make of this Tyrone began researching trolls. Fining them to be largly victims of a possible crime met out by the Pusher and how he got his powers. Guilt stabbed at him and he realized he had to do something. Thus he formed the Troll Rights Movement.
On one such case he ran into a robot called Greater Liberty and some others of the Global Rights Enforcers. They all fought well together and after a lengthy stretch Tyrone's mind was made up that they were doing the right thing and maybe it was no accident they met.
