Ywain's full designation is "Semi-autonomous tactical assistance unit". It was created by Lady Lionel, originally as an in-shop maintenance and repair droid. However, after the Clockwork raided her workshop while she was away, Ywain found itself in a position where it could not fulfill all its duties while still remaining inside. Thus it left the workshop in search of its creator in order to report the assault and request resupply and spare parts.
Of course, there was the minor problem of a drug riot raging through the block, and a harried-looking police officer mistaking it for the latest hero to come and help out, and clearly direct orders from accredited law enforcement personnel had priority over standing orders to report an already resolved crisis, so...
... Suffice it to say it took a while for Ywain to locate its creator, and by then it had already been issued a hero license.
This article about a character is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?

Personality
None; Ywain isn't sentient, although it enjoys - if that's the right word - a fairly wide degree of autonomy when none of its standing orders are in immediate effect.
Barring specific orders to the contrary from its creator or authorized allies (the Do-Gooders, primarily) Ywain will follow, obey and assist to the best of its ability any registered hero that thinks to ask it to do so. Its language centers are unfortunately literal, however, and so far attempts by Lady Lionel to improve its capacity for understanding metaphors and figures of speech have been entirely unsuccessful.
Powers
Combat Support
Ywain's primary function is defined as battlefield assistance - rapid field surgery, integrating multiple allies into a single tac-net, providing targeting data and onsite threat analyses, ECM, jamming and even emergency resuscitation in extreme cases. While its own offensive power is virtually nil (repulsor fields retasked for burst fire), its presence on any team serves as a very powerful force multiplier.
Travel
While Lady Lionel hadn't originally intended Ywain to be a field assistance unit, she found it useful enough to have accompany her that she modified its legs with the same high-power hydraulics technology that permits her armor to make prodigious leaps without killing the wearer.
Abilities
Ywain's expert system software is capable of modifying and rewriting its own code due to a partial loophole in its core directives. While it has no real imagination and must encounter or be instructed about a threat before it can evolve countermeasures, so far it has been able to cope with a staggeringly extensive range of threats and problems. It also tends to scavenge whatever designs and technology it determines might be useful if it hasn't been specifically ordered not to. This has caused a few misunderstandings over at Storm Technologies, but these were smoothed over.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Ywain has little to no personality, or initiative, or imagination. Because of this, it has an unfortunate tendency to interpret any order literally and to believe anything it's told unless it conflicts with known facts.
Trivia
- Due to an incautiously-phrased order from its creator after one answered rhetorical question too many a few months ago, Ywain only speaks in response to a direct question unless it judges that its silence would endanger lives.
- Ywain's hero license has been modified to provisional at Lady Lionel's request; it is permitted to assist other heroes in their duties as its security level will allow, but as it's not actually sentient it may not be requested to fulfill missions on its own.
