Early Life
Son of Walter and Edna Deepeneaux, Simon Deepeneaux was born in Salamanca, a village near Paragon City. The mystical intrusions had not become as great as they'd become in later years, but people knew not to leave their homes at night. Not wanting to raise their child in Salamanca, his parents moved to Baumton and enrolled Simon in elementary school there.
When he was fourteen, the Rikti invaded. During the raid on Baumton, Statesman brought down a drop ship, which crashed into the Deepeneaux's building. The building exploded, and Walter Deepeneaux escorted his son out, while his mother was trapped in a burning room. She died in that apartment, pregnant with what would have been Simon's younger sister growing inside her.
After the war, Simon and his father returned to Salamanca, which had not seen the level of conflict that Paragon City had seen. Simon sunk himself into his studies and graduated school when he was sixteen. He entered college where he dated Catherine Suon for a few years. After earning his Bachelors, he was offered an opportunity to go on a dig Delilah Stern, PhD.
Empowerment
During the dig, they entered a supposedly "safe" entrance into the sunken city of Oranbega. There, Simon discovered the fallen hero Verdandy. While the body was little more than dusty bones, the hammer was in pristine condition. His hand brushed against it and he heard thunder, while the world around him went a dazzling light. In that no-place, he was explained his mission as a Valkyrie, to choose the righteously slain for Valhalla, and to drive the unliving hordes back to Hel's embrace.
While that didn't sound like such a bad deal, given that he was to allowed some powers, he was also to do it in the body of the Valkyrie and Norn, Verdandy. Still, he remembered how helpless he felt when his mother died, and decided it was better to be able to make a difference than not. On the plus side, he was promised that he would be able to return to his mortal form, so he would not have to spend his entirety as a giant woman with a mystic hammer.
When he assumed his mortal form, he wasn't Simon Deepeneaux anymore.
Magical Catastrophe Act Registration
Valkyries must be women. Their duties require it. When Simon became Verdandy's incarnated form, he lost his access to his original form. Changing back, he had assumed the physical characteristics of the first mortal bearer of Verdandy's power, losing six inches in height, fifty pounds in weight, and also becoming a woman. Fortunately, Dr. Stern saw what happened, and assisted Simon through transitioning.
The MCA allowed Simon to reregister as Simone Deepeneaux, and she was assigned Dr. Stern as an academic advisor. She earned her Masters, and took a teaching position at the Steel Canyon University. She taught there while working on her Doctorate, focusing on her studies when emergencies didn't require Verdandy's mystical powers.
Assigned to MAGI by the FBSA, she assisted the city repeatedly, with a focus on taking down Oranbegans whenever they threatened the people of Paragon City.
Current Activities
Verdandy's abilities to foresee the immediate future allowed her to build a rather large nestegg, which she used to buy an apartment building. There, as a charity, she houses other people who were affected by the Magical Catastrophe Act and helps them get back on their feet.
After two and a half years, Simone Deepeneaux has earned a Doctorate in archeology, and is approaching tenure at the Steel Canyon branch of Paragon City University. She's also taken on several young ladies, including her adopted daughter, the girl Jennifer Lindt. She lied about the girl's age to allow her to foster the young woman, intending to keep her out of asylums. Verdandy's love of all beings who live has mingled with Simone's deep need to see no one suffer, making her one of the pre-eminent pollyannas in Paragon City.
The time she's spent as Verdandy, and her numerous accomplishments have unlocked more divine abilities, including the ability to channel Fimbulvettr, a seven-year long winter that heralds the end of the world, as well as the ability to call down lightning from the violent storms that lash Asgard.
