Introduction
Who is this bat-winged hero who guards Paragon City's nightly course? This is Vespero, an alien warrior from another planet, and now stranded on our own. With martial prowess unmatched and otherworldly technology he strafes the night skies for the next great battle against evil.
His kind - the Kymyrians - are nocturnal by nature and not fond of bright light. In fact, his world of Reykana, already a dark planet in comparison to our Earth was thrown from its orbit long ago by the Kymyrians' archenemies: the Devorians.
To survive in the intergalactic void, without a star, the Kymyrians developed the Shadow Reactor, an unparalleled dark energy source able to sustain their world. Now the Kymyrians exist in eternal twilight and live only to protect their lost world from the voracious Devorians and their slave races, who seek a bloody and triumphant end to their ages-long conflict.
Now, instead of defending his people from extinction, Vespero is compelled to aid humanity, despite its suspicion. Under careful watch of Vanguard and even his fellow heroes, Vespero nevertheless pursues evildoers with militant devotion.
Abilities & Weaknesses
- Alien Warmaster - Vespero is a master of many weapons and martial forms, many of which are not unlike Earth's. Though a capable marksman, Vespero prefers close quarters combat and surprise attacks.
- Kymyrian Durability - Vespero's kind are known for many things, including a tough hide, strong bones and accelerated regeneration, as well as incredible strength. Kymyrians are several times stronger and more durable than the humans of Earth.
- Flight - Vespero's powerful wings give him the natural ability to fly. Though they are convenient for travel, all Kymyrians are also exceptional at combat in midair and divebombing their enemies on the ground.
- Nocturnal Senses - Kymyrians have excellent vision in darkness, in addition to exceptional hearing and sense of smell. Kymyrian warriors are trained to fight in absolute darkness and with their eyes closed, learning to rely on their hearing to dispatch their foes if necessary.
- One with the Shadow - By way of his Eclipse Belt, Vespero can become nearly invisible, aiding in sneak attacks and infiltration.
- Nocturnal Nature - The light of the sun - or any bright light - can disorient Vespero and temporarily blind him. Even with his eyes closed or shielded, the presence of direct sunlight makes Vespero anxious, and he is prone to sunburn despite his swarthy skin. Naturally, Vespero prefers to sleep during the day.
- Sensory Overload - Loud sounds and sonic attacks are particularly devastating to Vespero and cause disorientation, nauseau and headache.
- Culture Shock - Though he's learned English rather well and Kymyrians are not altogether different from Humans, many customs remain as alien to Vespero as he is to us. Being nocturnal alone is enough to raise suspicion in Humans, let alone being from another world, given the scars of the Rikti and Praetorian invaders. Beyond that, Vespero's culture is a warrior culture and one that values discretion in all things, and so he has trouble meshing with Earth's lively and social civilizations.
Equipment & Locations
- Ghostglaive - Vespero's primary weapon is a telescoping polearm called the "Ghostglaive". Its blade can pierce any known substance, though its effects vary, depending on its setting. It's capable of burning through most substances, but can also be utilized to "ghost" or partially phase through Vespero's targets, causing severe pain in organics and EMP disruptions in electronics, effectively disabling both without destroying them.
- Reykonduit - One of the many treasures of the Kymyrians, a Reykonduit is so-named because of its ability to channel the power of their homeworld's Shadow Reactor. Reykonduits allow Kymyrian warriors to become almost completely invisible on the visible spectrum. They also allow short and long-range teleportation, usually aided by Kymyrian warships. With enough power, Reykonduits can also generate force fields and dark energy blasts, though this often overtasks the device and causes it to malfunction.
- Kymyrian Steel Armor -
