Violet Starlight/Returning To Her True Home
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
"You have been seeking for me, well here I am, Julianne," the being (he cannot truly be called a man at this point) once known to the world as Nemesis addressed his company.
The one whom he was addressing shows some discomfort at being called by her given name, especially by one so strange as Nemesis. She briefly thought about demanding to be called Countess, but she knew better. She sought the audience with him, dozens of investigators under her command trying to follow through on legends and half whispered rumours. Those dozens now dead, and Countess Crey did not wish to follow.
"Yes, I have. As I am sure you are aware, my company has been having a bit of trouble with a colourful vigilante back in Paragon City," the owner of Crey Biotech said.
"Yes, I know of whom you speak. She has mentioned word of my survival to some in Freedom Corps, though she, nor they, have found a shred of proof." Nemesis pauses for a long moment, the hiss of steam exhaust filling the room. "But she is less than a gnat. Why should a great Lord such as I be concerned with such a genetic mistake such as her?"
Countess Crey knew she would have to go into detail on what her people have found. "For I ask of it, and offer a boon. And you are the only one equipped to remove her." She herself pauses for dramatic effect, "We have found that this Violet Starlight's blood is infused with interdimensional radiation."
Nemesis may now exist inside a large suit of armor, but the Countess could tell she spooked him. Though all he said outwards was in response to this revelation was, "Ah, yes." He continued on, "Then, as a gesture of my good will to you and your pharmaceutical interest, I shall provide you one copy of a weapon. It can only be fired on the Eleventh of February, at two o'clock in the afternoon in the timezone you are most familiar with. She should be at the Courthouse in the Founders Falls neighborhood at that moment."
It was the Countess' turn to look startled at the amount of information Nemesis knew, and planned on. She agreed to this, and to the few details Nemesis asked for in return.
Angelica Bardoux, better known as Violet Starlight, manipulated the currents of gravity to let her land softly right in front of the courthouse doors, bypassing most of the line of reporters. The reporters, however, spotted her in her new bright purple costume, and began shouting questions for her to answer. She mostly ignored them, just uttering out a loud "Sorry!" before walking into the courthouse, her cape floating behind her.
It was nearly 2:00, and Angie knew she had to rush to get to her father's sentencing. Inwardly she felt a great load of guilt for having arrested him for crimes over a decade old, but now she was well known in the city. That is why she showed up in costume, she was going to address the court to grant some form of clemency to her father. She hoped that would assuage her guilt, the guilt brought on largely by her using this new found fame to try to propel her case against Crey into the public's mind. Already several other heroes have followed her lead, publically, into Crey's dealings and who knows how many have investigated privately. Though those...well that probably explains some disappearances.
Lost in her own thoughts, she made her way up to the fifth floor. And in front of her the door to the men's bathroom opened and out stepped a man in a perfect suit. His head tilted slightly and in a quick movement, his right hand raised holding a odd-looking gun.
And as that gun was raised, Angie reached out and let loose a stream of radiation that would weaken him and make his arm shaky, which indeed is what occurred as the first shot of the odd swirling energy missed her by a yard.
Unfortunately, the sheer power of her radiation shocked her, as ever since she had arrived back in her home dimension, the dimensional radiation she could emit kept growing weaker. This shock, no excuse for a veteran crime-fighter such as herself, kept her from following up her defense and thus the second shot of swirling energy hit her square in the abdomen. And she could feel it completely engulf her being as if she was absorbing this energy until....
Nothing. Nowhere. That's where she was. She could see, though there was nothing to see. Just a great emptiness of a swirling green color. Though unknown to her, she was in fact between dimensions, the gun causing her to fall off of her home dimension and end up in the void between.
While there was no air here to breathe, she found herself not needing air. Whatever energy suffused this void allowed her to carry on. That was the upside. The downside was she could feel the energy going inside of her...and who knew how much she could safely absorb.
But there was no answer, was there? What could she do...It's not as if there was a place to fly towards...she could see nothing in every direction around her.
But as luck, or perhaps fate, would have it, Angie felt something. A ping across her mind almost. And it felt...familiar in a way she couldn't place.
After a few more seconds (Were there seconds here?) she could actually get a fix on the signal. And she knew what she'd have to do.
If she stayed here...she would probably die. If she followed through with her plan...Well there was a great chance of death as well but at least she'd do -something-.
And so putting aside her fear, she began expelling all that energy that was building up inside her body into a small point right in front of her. And the sharp pain that erupted inside her head, augmented by a stronger signal, proved to her she broke through to ... somewhere. But somewhere was better than nowhere.
As gravitons leaked through from the dimension she had made a pinpoint hole to, she used her powers over gravity, extending the hole between the dimension and the void in which she resided.
And as everytime space-time is violated in such a way near her, her head erupted in agony. She worked through the pain, widening the hole until it was large enough to draw her through it, and only then did she let herself give into the pain and fall unconscious.
"We got a live one coming through!" The call was shouted by the first scout to come through Portal Corporation's gigantic dimensional gateways. "We need a medic!"
As medics crowded the ramp that lead up to the gate, several other people came through the gate, one of them cradling a redhaired woman in violet spandex, her mask ruined by several dark red spots that could only be blood. One of the medics shouted, "Get her mask off and get her down here!"
The Portal Corps expedition followed directions, and the same medic said with wide eyes, "That's Violet Starlight..Quick, get her out of the room, now. She can't handle the gates!"
A speedster grabbed her at that order and rushed her out of the room, most of the medics followed except the one who barked the orders. "She was on MFD73-435B65-FD1 this whole time?"
The leader of the expedition shook his head, "No, sir. We were there trying to talk to some of the locals, as usual, and a hole ripped open in the sky. It was only there for moments, before closing, but she was suddenly in the sky and falling. We caught her up there, and brought her here as soon as we could. Unfortunately we were under fire by the Family once we exhibited our powers."
"Well...We'll find out what's up when she's better. We've been looking for her ever since she vanished. Thank you."
