Virtue-Man
The man who said no to an empire.
Origins
Virtue-Man was born Waed on the planet Corthos Two hundred and thirty standard years ago. He had a fairly standard Corthite childhood, rigorous training coupled with grueling mental exercises to prepare him for his career as inter-stellar conqueror.
Millenia ago, the Corthite High Council was supplanted by bloody insurrection. This new "Council of Regents" as they called themselves oversaw scientific expansion, and they became the architects of Corthos' Scientific Golden Age. Centuries went by and the Corthites decided to spread their way of life to the rest of the universe. Using their superior scientific knowledge, they conquered system after system until their empire spanned galaxies. It is the duty of all Corthites to add new planets to the empire.
Growing up during the height of the empire, Waed earned a name for himself as a ruthless soldier, bringing world after world into the empire until he earned the title "Archon" As Archon, Waed had earned the privilege to have children. He had a number of sons, all dutiful soldiers, but only one daughter. It was his daughter that would change his life forever. On her first assignment, she was tasked with conquering Earth. When she refused, she was executed for her treason. Waed was sent to Earth to redeem himself in the eyes of the Council of Regents by conquering it. Assuming the identity "Ryan Wade" Waed set to his task, only to find it harder than he could possibly imagine. Earth was nexus of the strange and unique. It was unruly, and it therefore could not be ruled. If the Council knew, they would have destroyed it lest it become a threat. But Waed saw a beauty there. He saw what his daughter saw, for no-where else in the cosmos was like it. Earth was Strange, and he wanted to keep it that way.
Waed now lives in Paragon City as Virtue-Man, an identity set up by Hero Corps, helping the Vanguard prepare for Corthite invasion. He has a pet Rikti monkey named Mukmuk.
Powers
All Corthites are gifted in science, but their real discoveries were made centuries ago. An un-named Corthite scientist discovered a way to manipulate their genetic codes to enable them to break down atomic matter and sub-atomic particles. They do not have conventional digestive systems or lungs. They can therefore break down prodigious amounts of energy. This energy has made them invulnerable, super strong by human standards and has given them the ability to fly and move at incredible speeds, as well as a variety of other enhanced senses.
This makes them very, very hard to kill. Criminals and other malcontents are executed via black holes. Anything that negates their ability to process sub-atomic energy, such as alternate universes, gravitic distortions, or even psionic attacks can interrupt their powers. But since very few races have adapted to controlling these forces, Corthites are nigh unstoppable.
As Virtue-Man, Waed has collected a small arsenal to make up for his weaknesses, including a special power-armor which streamlines his ability to process sub-atomic matter, and magical armor which protects him from some magic.
Culture and Personality
Corthites have long since evolved past the point of communal society, they meet sparingly, and only to decided matters that affect the empire as a whole. Since they do not need to eat, sleep, and their aging is almost permanently retarded, they do not often need to rear new children. When they do, qualified individuals can have a new Corthite or Corthites grown from their genetic material. This new Corthite is often taught via pre-recorded hologram, but some traditionalists insist on personal training.
Though almost all Corthites have a uniform height and mass, they come in a variety of colors, this is usually left to discretion of the parent.
Waed taught all of his children personally, despite admonishment from the regents. This return to communal living is what fostered his relationship between him and his offspring, and affected his decision to protect the Earth. Although he will not admit it, and barely understands it himself, Waed has a deep love for Earth's individuality. The Earth is a Strange place, and Waed wants to keep it that way.
As a side-effect of his culture; Wade does not understand the acts of sex, eating, and sleeping. He can eat, but it isn't necessary.
Career as a hero
Virtue-Man isn't your typical hero. Although he tries very hard to follow all of Earth's laws, sometimes he slips up. Such slip ups have been covered up by the Hero Corps, who has manufactured most of his identity, and contracted him out to the Vanguard. He has been spotted helping many citizens after the Shivan invasion and has been seen in the company of the Midnight Squad.
