Formerly a member of Phalanx 21 and The Relentless Few; founding member of 21 Stones. It is also well known among MAGI and like minded groups that Voidwire has a longstanding conflict with the Circle of Thorns. This conflict has frequently brought her into cooperative efforts with those who wield arcane power. |
"Yeah, I get that look a lot. Its the one that says, 'She knows what I'm thinking?' The short answer is yes, I do, but it wouldn't be the right answer. And trust me... I wish it were as simple as the short answer. It'd make my life a lot easier to live."
Known History
The mutant known as Voidwire first became a well documented resident of Paragon City shortly following the conclusion of the first Rikti Invasion. As a member of the all mutant supergroup Phalanx 21, she dedicated large quantities of her time to assisting the city in its constant struggle against villainy, specifically working to hinder the activities of Paragon's many gangs. Her later shift in attention, away from the gangs to the occult driven Circle of Thorns, came as a surprise to many. Whatever her grievance against the demon worshipping magi may be, that feud continues to this day. When internal problems fractured Phalanx 21 beyond repair, Void made the jump to The Relentless Few, a supergroup founded by her lover, Father Bones. Eventually, that group faded as well, and the determined Voidwire filed paperwork with the City of Paragon to found another group, 21 Stones, with this statement:
My friends and I, we all lost something important in the Rikti Invasion. But honestly, I think what we lost the most was our innocence. We tried to reclaim it when we formed Phalanx 21, and others of our numbers when they formed the Relentless Few. We wanted something of what was back, but the truth was we could never have it. Mutants would never be on their own again, regardless of what prejudices might still be out there. Likewise, we couldn't have the old arguments of which method of integrating ourselves into the human race and how weren't going to work. The Rikti were here, along with all of the other bad guys the chaos of the invasion brought out of the shadows.
When I was seventeen, I lost a number of friends. Twenty-one of them to be exact. And each one gave his or her life so that others could live. I'm one of the lucky few who got to live out of that day, and if I learned one thing out of that day, its this. Those who are remembered in the actions of others never die. They live on in our works, a testament to the defiant will of man. Every night I strap on the armor, I do so remembering that day, and the twenty-one who died so that I and all of those wounded in our compound could live, and I know why I'm fighting. I'm fighting for the dream we shared. I'm fighting for the world they believed could be. I'm fighting for them.
So seriously? Who are you fighting for?
To the outside world, Voidwire is known to be a quiet hero very concerned with her privacy. The above statement is one of a handful that she's given over the course of her career, and she tends to avoid interviews whenever possible. She is more apt to flee an area to avoid media or fan attention than she is to stay. Those who know her realize this reticense has less to do with the attention, however, than it has to do with the wellbeing of the regular public as well as her own safety.
Among friends, many of who call her 'Void' or simple 'Ri', she is soft spoken yet quick to smile and often comfortably affectionate. Most know that the young hero is more burdened with her powers than she is gifted and those closest to her accept that she'll know their general mood as well as whatever potent dreams are streaming through their subconcious at any point in time. Those who have worked with her, however, acknowledge that her motives are benevolent. Though she may never be as famous as the more iconic members of the Freedom Phalanx (and indeed would be mortified by the thought), she follows a purely heroic impulse.
Recent Activities
Recently, Voidwire has been seen moving through Paragon City quietly, lending a hand here and there where her particular talents can be seen as most useful. Frequently, she's seen when a delicate matter of the Circle of Thorns comes to a head. Her ability to slip in and out of their subtaeranean lairs as well as her familiarity with the tactics is without question very valuable to those fighting their particular brand of arcane evil. She is not, however, seen often at 21 Stones' meetings, evidently preferring to let the much more affable Aires Guard deal with those matters.
Relations
Voidwire has few close friends, and is very careful who she lets into her life and where. Its known that her family lives somewhere in New England, but she is very relunctant to speak of them much. Since she's come to Paragon, almost all of the friends she's made have either been in the various hero groups to which she has belonged or in those circles of 'support' provided by the likes of MAGI.
Aires Guard, as one of the older students from the 'school for the gifted' she attended as a youth, is one of her closest. His good hearted nature and lack of guile set her completely at ease.
Similarly, her relationship with Malignus, the firey tempered former Damned, is one of comfort born of long association. They tend to act more as siblings, with Voidwire deferring to him much as a younger sister would.
In a world that never let her be a normal girl, Thermo-Nuclear and Lady Shadowbane were two young women who helped her to feel grounded. After all, the two didn't mind that Voidwire slept in a large metal tank with complex controls and wiring to keep the dreaming city out of her mind. Who were they to judge? One being unable to stand still and the other being a shade of elfish blue.
One of the first friends she made beyond her normal 'mutant' circles, the Uncanny Demon was also one of her first arcane contacts and an ally in her battle against the Circle of Thorns. Much as Malignus, the strange mage treated her as a very protective older brother might.
Voidwire has been known to say that Father Bones is proof of a benevolent universe; either that, or perfectly complementing soulmates do really and truly exist. This voudon mutant's constant outflow of life energy visible feeds Voidwire's absorption of the same, in effect neutralizing some of the gradual weakening her powers can have on others. Though he is seen less frequently than he once was, she speaks of him with such a shy affection that one can't doubt that their romantic relationship is still in full swing.
