OVERVIEW: Vostok Mk.I
The Vostok program was designed by the Glavnoye Razvedovatel'noye Upravlenie (GRU) during the Cold War with the express purpose to create a warbot designed for command and control (C&C) infiltration and elimination.
Fitted with a compact nuclear core and variety of sensors and weaponry, the Vostok series was designed to locate and evaluate important enemy targets, and then neutralize them with its fearsome particle-based cannons, or infiltrate the target and destroy it using its onboard nuclear core (estimated yield: 1.5 megatons.)
Going online in August of 1965. Only one prototype was ever tested, and with the cancellation of the project by the Kremlin this prototype was placed in storage.
The Union of Soviet Heroes
The project was ressurected with the reorganized Union of Soviet Heroes project, and reprogrammed to serve as a mobile support warbot for the team, many of its deadlier systems were removed, and new sensors and radiation dispensors were fitted. It went into service on April 30, 2004.
Specter Of the Past: Birth of Vostok Mk.II
The Vostok unit served with the Union for several months until a flaw in its programming architecture resurrected its old combat subroutines, sending the warbot on a rampage across Paragon City. Now rogue, the Vostok unit evaluated Paragon City as it would as any military target, and its directives targetted the Freedom Corps headquarters in Galaxy City as the city's Command & Control ceneter that most matched the warbot's parameters - targetting it for destruction by the Vostok unit.
The attack on the city's center for all things superheroic was intercepted and thwarted by the hero Biowar, who reprogrammed Vostok yet again with his nanotechnology. The most important change with this reporgramming came with an upgraded artificial intelligence to drive the warbot, and a new set of directives that purged his previous directives forever.
Ruraluu Invasion and Destruction of Vostok Mk.II
Now set free of its destructive directives and implanted with new ones the Vostok unit served as an independant agent until the recent Ruraluu Invasion.
While in defense of the city the Vostok unit made it's first conscious, some would say even sentient decision and self-activated its nuclear core's detonation sequence and walked into a Ruraluu portal, exploding on the other side in a nuclear fireball as the portal slammed shut behind it.
Vostok Mk.III and KGB Special Section 8
In the seconds before it destroyed itself, the Vostok Mk.I unit downloaded its memories and important files to a backup chassis that it had constructed from internal blueprint. Within a month of the old unit's destruction a newer and more improved model Vostok warbot was again on the streets. Through their research, the organization named KGB Special Section 8 discovered the existence and origin of the warbot - and sought it out. Using older soviet command codes as verification, the Vostok unit was recruited as a support asset to KGB Special Section 8.
The Vostok unit served as mobile support for KGB Special Section 8, when it was not online it stores itself in a special tank rack in the organization's headquarters, connected to the outside world by Special Section 8's computer systems, thus also served as an intelligence gathering and coordination system for the rest of the team.
Departure from the KGB
With the recent disbandment of the KGB and rogue status of it's field commander, the Vostok unit teamed with it's former fellow agents, only to be shut down by a back-door command authorization code from it's former commander, Comrade Smersh. Recognizing this as a threat to it's mission objectives, the Vostok unit overwrote some of it's core functions using programming from an older model Vostok that the warbot had kept in storage. Now free of command authority save for it's creator, the Vostok unit severed all ties with KGB Special Section Eight in order to pursue it's objectives independently.
Capabilities
Vostok has a titanium-alloy armored chassis, humanoid in appearance, that is normally a dull gray and red in color, its visual scanners glow from yellow to different colors, depending upon the spectrum it is observing at the moment. In combat mode this is the unit's normal appearance, although when stealth or a less threatening appearance is required the unit can project image maps from its internal memories to holographic emitters that are implanted all over its armored chassis. Thus the Vostok unit is capable of taking on any appearance of a human the same height as itself. The unit's holographic projectors are also capable of rendering it difficult to detect by visual means, allowing the warbot to be used in an infiltration and espionage capacity by KGB Special Section 8.
Vostok carries twin light particle accelerator cannons along his forearms, the barrels located in his palms - these cannon ports also are used for delivery of nanotech payloads via use of a low-level plasma charge carrier. A plasma charge carrier burst allows Vostok's nanotech to 'ride' the beams it projects into targets at range. With these devices Vostok can engage targets, injecting nanotech for medical usage, or debilitating effects. his cranial structure contains his sensor networks and a pair of high-energy laser cannons tunable to the x-ray wavelength.
Vostok's heaviest weapon is the fearsome Stormovik Cannon mounted in its reinforced right arm, this proton particle accelerator runs the length of the arm, and can only be fired when the arm is locked in a stiff firing point position. Data on the Stormovik cannon suggests that the blast pulses of proton particles are sufficient to easily destroy a modern main battle tank from long range.
Vostok is fitted with a number of advanced communications systems and surveillance equipment as well as systems capable of interception and infiltration of communications wavelengths, in its hands are sets of data taps capable of allowing Vostok to interface with outside computer systems and infiltrate them using its onboard decryption and intrusion systems.
For medical support the Vostok unit relies on it's onboard medical nanotech and sensor/diagnostic systems: these can be released in a carrier wave burst to effect all lifeforms around Vostok. His final piece of medical technology is the beta-wave particle bombardment systems fired from the same barrels as it's neutrino and plasma carrier emmission units. This last system, the beta-wave projetor, can 'jump start' the heart and nervous system of even critcally wounded personnel while rejuvenating their tissues through nanotechnology delivered via contact from its hands.
Power Systems
The Vostok warbot is powered by its nuclear core, supplemented by a set of powertaps capable of drawing charge off nearly any power source, including city power grids, in order to recharge the warbot's reserves. On its main power alone the warbot can operate continuously for an estimated 75 years before replacement is required.
Self-Destruct
It is unknown whether Vostok retains its self-destruct capability at this time.
Trivia
Vostok can intricately make fabrege eggs (the decorative item) he also makes a mean eggs benedict (the breakfast item)
Vostok was first created from an inspiration driven by the Marvel character: Sputnik of the Soviet Super Soldiers. I named the character Vostok as the unmanned Sputnik program was succeeded by the manned Vostok one. After the game had launched and the character was being played, someone pointed out that the character Sputnik had changed its name to Vostok in a single story that involved members of that team. I had not read that particular issue so, unaware of the character name change, i decided not to delete the character as the two are fundamentally different.
Vostok continuously upgrades itself, and is now in its fourth distinctive configuration. Older models that have not been destroyed are kept in storage. The Vostok unit has begun to develop something resembling a personality, and now occasionally refers to itself as 'Frank'.
Vostok's creator was military scientist Doctor Anatoli Rostov - whereabouts unknown at the present time.
