Shade was born long ago, before World War II, but her unique mutant psychic abilities made her the perfect candidate to have her consciousness transferred into an alien construct, allowing her to be the young hero, or villain, she is today.
Wayfinder, Shade Smythe, is a cybernetic mutant with mind control abilities and the ability to shapeshift her form into anyone, both physically and mentally. She uses her abilities to act as an infiltrator and low-grade healer, helping to turn the tie of what once was a losing battle.
She has recently learned that her old friend, Lucy Tenison, is alive and well after she was taken to another dimension. Only Lucy has returned darker, now known as the villainess, TechnoSorceress.
She has recently modified herself to to take on a more combat oriented role, adopting a twin-bladed style from a villain she was impersonating to get close to an old friend, TechnoSorceress, who had gone bad.
After a damaging accident, Shade was forced to see the only person alive who might be able to aid her...her old friend and arch enemy, TechnoSorceress. It was in the villainess' lab that both learned that there was a living energy being acting as the shapeshifter's power supply. However, after being exposed to Shade's psionic abilities for so long, it no longer possessed a mind or will of its own, becoming an extension of Shade. Shade has since learned that, in times of trouble, she can call forth the powers of this being and replace her own, becoming the Darke Avatar.
When she learned of new villainous recruitment, she decided to do what she does best...infiltrate and learn from within. However, Shade's shapeshifting talents make it rather easy for her to fall in line with her darker, more forbidden desires. If not careful, she will not be infiltrating anymore and will become what she is pretending to be.
