Overview
To Portal Corporation scientists, the dimension designated Theta Epsilon 5-23 is anomalous. Probes sent through detect no trace whatsoever of the solar system. It is the dimension of origin of the man now only known as Web Architect.
When the Web Architect was interviewed by Portal Corp personel after contacting its headquarters on Peregrine Island, he was adamant that the main point of divergence between his home dimension must have occured merely a few decades in the past: Captain Mako wasn't the governor of Sharkhead Isle in Theta Epsilon 5-23. Otherwise, he told them that what he had heard of his world's Gideon Ray made him seem identical to this dimension's. The difference was that the latter was dead long before his world was.
Web Architect was far from a student of History in his previous life, but the story was common knowledge in these Rogue Isles. Captain Mako had become one of Lord Recluse's lieutenant, but in retaliation for some past savagery a group of brutal metahumans succeeded in luring him into a trap and kill him using superior numbers. That Barracuda soon tracked down the killers in turn and exacted revenge didn't stop the chain of events that they unwittingly put in motion.
Character History
Gossamer Reef
This Paragon City's Web Architect was born in the dimension Theta Epsilon 5-23, in the vast Arachnos complex within the artificial island of Gossamer Reef, a then recent addition to the Étoile Isles. A mutant, he was given not only a designation but also his place in the Reef's Breed Registry: White Harlequin Sybota GR8505. From birth onwards he was, like every other mutant born produced by the breeding program, subjected to intensive conditionning and some basic training before being exposed to the dangers of the training grounds.
Once he had survived the trials, he was reintegrated into the base itself to undergo a more systematic training program, to learn the techniques needed to focus the low level power of reality manipulation he had inherited through the breeding program, the mainline mutation of the captive mutant population. After being outfitted with a spinneret interface suit, both a creation and a channeler of this mutant power, and learning how to maintain it, Sybota 8505 was given the title of technician and joined the ranks of a rising faction within Arachnos, a faction lead by the man who had prevailed among those who had struggled to fill the power vaccuum created by Mako's demise.
That man, if it was a man, had appeared in the Rogue Isles at the opportune time, seemingly out of nowhere. His single-minded mutant cadre giving him an edge against other contenders, while his apparent control of an entire mutant bloodline, ready to be put at Arachnos' disposal also did much to earn him Lord Recluse's favor. In time, he was at the head of his own fully fledged faction within Arachnos and the construction by the application of reality warping of his new base of operation and project for Arachnos, Gossamer Reef, under way with Lord Recluse's blessing and under the guard of amphibious units of Crab Spiders.
Cell 883
Sybota's second real assignement was in one of the covert Arachnos unit operating in Paragon City: Cell 883. Its role under the metropolis, unmarred in this dimension by interdimensional conflict, to simply man a listening station. So when the fighting began in the Rogue Isles, Sybota was out of harm's way, altough under close watch by the rest of the cell while they used the post's communication uplink to watch the situation unfold, none seeing any use in taking a hasty stand with no effect on the outcome, just in case the Web Architect's coup against Lord Recluse didn't fail.
