History

Gwendolyn Eira was born on April 18th, 1906 in New York City. She was the only child to a couple that were doing alright, with her father being a doctor. But the birth was complicated and her mother was rendered incapable of having another child after her. Her father, of course, wanted a son but he quickly learned to deal with what he had, and taught Gladys some of what he knew. Not that it would do much good for her future, not in those days.

Her life remained unchanged until September 16th, 1920 when terrorists perpetrated the Wall Street Bombing, a bombing that claimed both her parents lives. A fact where she told herself she would never die. People make odd promises as a teenager. Finding herself alone at 14, she quickly married the first available suiter she had, and learned to be a housewife for the next 9 childless years. But that peace was shattered by world events when the stock market crashed and her family was left with nothing. Her husband did what many others did, and decided he would walk off and look for work in other cities. She never saw him again.

She put herself to use, using what knowledge she gained from her father she worked as a nurse at a hospital in the city, and managed to scrape by enough to live on her own. When she was 30, she moved to one of the first nursing homes in the city, helping the elderly live their final days. To look at them though frightened her in a way. And, despite not being a teenager, she made another rash promise to herself. That she would not age like them.

2 years pass with her working in that job, slowly rising to the position of head nurse. But in 1938, on her way home, she was accosted by a few young thugs. Whether they wanted her body, or her money, it is not known, but as they began their attack, she willed herself not to feel anything. And she didn't. Their blows did no damage to her, and she was able to get away from them. But the traumatic incident remained ingrained in her head.

And so, shortly after, she made her way out of the city, as every twist and turn made her remember that attack. She thought of where she could go, and she immediately came to the conclusion of San Francisco. And so she made her way out west. And on her travels, she met a man. No love passed between them, but he eyed her and immediately offered to train her to fight, as if he knew she was special in a way.

He said his name was Asad Ikram, and he trained her in the art of knife-fighting as the train made its way west. She absorbed the training quickly, as she found herself planning her future. They parted ways in San Francisco, her never learning more from him than knife fighting and his name.

It took a year for her to properly get settled. She worked in the largest hospital there and continued to practice with the blades Asad gave her. Eventually, using some of the scrubs from the hospital she worked in, she made her debut in the city. She found a couple of young men accosting a young women. And she made short work of them, killing the two quickly. She vanished as quickly as she arrived, only handing out a card with the hospital's name and address on it to the woman.

And so it went. Word began to spread through the city that a surgeon in white was hacking up would-be rapists and pimps. And this went on until January of 1942, when the city of San Francisco begin to see it's own activity because of the war. Unlike Paragon, which was constantly under a barrage of attacks from a Nazi organization, San Francisco saw itself under attack after attack by agents of the Japanese Empire.

Gwen changed her whole MO almost overnight. She still fought with her knives, but began capturing those who would do attacks on her city rather than killing them. Due to her limited strength, she had no way to physically transport them so she did her best by tying them up and leaving word with the police.

After the war, she stopped going out on the streets. She felt that the war gave her something great to do for her country, and she couldn't see herself going back and stopping violent criminals. She had noticed that she still looked as old as she did 10 years before, and this fact began to worry her. She had a good head on her shoulders and realized some of what she should do. After a few more years of existence, she went into seclusion and came back in a different city, entering medical school to become a surgeon. She managed to be a moderately talented surgeon, and kept her money well invested. And she repeated the process, again, in the 1970s. Going through med school, using makeup to look younger, and then older, as time went by. It was only a matter of time before it caught up with her.

She enjoyed her job. A woman as a surgeon in the late 20th, earliest 21st century was not unheard of anymore. She actually became head of the surgical department of the hospital she worked at in Cleveland. And even found romance. And this fact kept her staying in the existence of this one life much longer than she should have, and this was when she was noticed. She never knew she was noticed, not quite. But she began to have a sinking feeling that things were going to end. And so, she suddenly broke up with the man she had been dating for 12 years, (She did not marry, she knew she was, in a way, still married to her husband even if he was likely dead.) and then faked her death, moving out further east to Paragon in 2005.

She managed to get in under the radar for 3 years, going through medical school, this time under her maiden name instead of one she made up. But she was found. Freedom Corps surprised her at home once and began asking her questions about her life. They traced her slowly-accumulated fortune from inheritance to inheritance to now, and even asked her about the surgeon in white in San Francisco. She came clean about everything, telling them her life.

They decided that while laws had been broken, she acted under good faith. The told her to register with the FBSA the next day. She went down to City Hall and they surprised her at the Enhanced Logistics for Insight and Tactical Excellence with a copy of her old costume, telling her that she was welcome to be back in the field. She tried, half heartedly, to argue out of it, saying she had retired. But in truth she found herself suddenly nostalgic. And she couldn't deny that the crimes now were bigger than they were than...and there was the war with the Rikti. And so the White Surgeon, with an official card now and being more than a quick blade in the dark, was born.

Powers

Dual Blades

She has been trained to fight with small blades by a mysterious man 70 years ago. However, having been rather inactive for 60 years on the fighting front, her skills have rusted and she is not as good as she once was.

Willpower

No one at the FBSA can say how she has been unable to age and not die, and avoid serious injury, but it seems she has the ability to just will the impossible of her body. She cannot seemingly will herself to get wealthy (Though she may have due to her fortune made by living 3 lives and on her fourth), but it seems as if her issuing a burst of strong will with an intensity of emotion caused her to cease aging and stop the force of injury. What the limits of her will-wishing power are, it cannot be said at this time.
