Personality
Winter Flux is a shy, soft spoken girl who doesn't seem at all comfortable in her own skin. Over time she has grown in confidence, but she still lacks the ambition it takes to be a leader. She prefers to take the 'back seat' and stay out of the lime light.
Abilities
Winter Flux's abilities come from a genetic mutation that allows her to manipulate the energies around her. She doesn't know when her abilities first surfaced, but she prefers to use her skills to heal her injured teammates. On occasion, she will defend herself and those around her using powerful bursts of energy conducted through metallic gloves.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Winter Flux is albino and must protect herself at all times from the harsh rays of the sun.
Equipment
Because of her albinism, her crime fighting suit covers her entire body and houses technology that blocks more of the radiation from the sun than would a normal costume. Recently, her friend Dreamscape Lad procured a magical set of mask and gloves that would allow her to show her face and hands to others - while still protecting them from the sun. They allow her to show whatever she wishes to others, thus allowing her to pretend she has a normal pigmentation.
Character History
Laurie de Winter has no past. Well, as far as she knows anyway. One day, she woke up and this kindly gentleman said that she had saved him from a fire. She could have. Maybe. Taking his word for it, she remained in his care. Together they worked on trying to solve the riddle of her amnesia and, eventually, on trying to understand the phenomenon of her mutation caused abilities. Over the course of time, she determined that she might as well do something with her gifts other than make aluminum sparkle to amuse her caregiver's guests. Because her caregiver didn't lack for money, he provided her with the means to do so.
Over time, her heroing career has led to the formation of a few good and solid friendships. The Sensational Flame, Dreamscape Lad, Alpha-Bolt, Alyssa Drake, to name some. The most significant friendship has been that with Shinryu - which developed into much more. Having been shy for so long, she did not think a guy would ever want to date her, but he does. Because of her friendships and her relationship with Shinryu, Laurie has evolved a bit more self-confidence and leadership skills. This was so evident to her friends in the Teen League that she was promoted to League Elite and placed in charge of the infirmary.
More and more things began to surface regarding her past - and it was all things she would rather forget. According to Dreamscape Lad and Shinryu, she was once held in an installation of Crey Laboratories, freed only by the efforts of her guardian, Dr. Daughtry. She doesn't remember this because her mother had a psionic friend of hers erase her memory. Not only does she have her memory wiped, but on occasion (because of her mother's constant tampering) her personality changes, and she calls herself Medae (aka Fallback). This was quite a lot to handle. So, Laurie has been focusing on finding her now missing guardian.
Trivia
Winter Flux was, for a short time, a core member of the Young Protectors, but after a scolding from her caregiver on neglecting her studies and the positive peer pressure of a few of her friends, she re-enrolled in school... a school with a program dedicated to 'different' children. When her studies became easier, however, she joined a group called The Teen League.
Her favorite movie is The Dark Crystal.
Her favorite food is french fries.
Her favorite hobby is spending time with Shinryu.
