Character Background:

Yeah, I bunked with Worthless. Looked her up after I got out, to see if her story was true, talked to some of her classmates back in Georgia, even her stupid dad is in the slammer down there. Now granted, Sybil wasn't the most personable chick back then. She was shy and awkward and maybe had a bad case of “not like the other girls” syndrome, but she wasn't that bad, right? Sybil never seemed to be able to keep a friend and she became kinda clingy. They all saw her as the weirdo that the weirdos couldn't stand, but no one really could tell you why; there was just something that seemed to be repulsive about her, right, that no one could put into words. Hell even her parents couldn't stand being around her ya know? Father gets arrested for shop-lifting and mother dies of some bullshit disease no one's ever heard of. Like, who gets 10 years for shop-lifting? Just another excuse to stay away from that black hole that is that Sybil girl.

Of course, Sybil got more desperate to fit in. She tried all the classic strats: being sporty, nerdy, slutty, funny. Most ended in fantastic disaster; she just didn't have a talent or passion to capitalize on. She was just that worthless, even back then, I guess. Even the pity friendships were train wrecks. First there was Jessica, who was about as weird as her, but Jessica ended up committing suicide. Paisley fell in a fucking sink-hole. Car-wreck turned Julie into a vegetable. And the most fucked up, a mother fucking murder took out Evelyn. And of course we they all thought it was Sybil but some online stalker was arrested for it. It seemed that people would rather die than to stay in Sybil's life, so maybe Sybil did Evelyn in before she left. Thinking about it now, maybe she was cursed?

Sybil thought so and started being weird. Guess she got some magic shit off the internet. I mean, I'd call it bullshit, but you all know about Paragon City, so we don't need to say it. But the thing is, nothing happened. Apparently she was fasting for weeks, cutting on her self, drawing daemonic shit with blood. They found like four or five bodies when the police picked her up. Yeah, she was sacrificing virgins. Real basic shit right there.

But something did happen after that, that's why they had to take her to the Zig. She told me that a voice spoke to her. Told her who she really was, that she was really just that worthless, pointless, waste of existence she was trying to convince herself she wasn't. And then she stopped caring. When she accepted that, that's when the magic awoke inside of her. Heard she just walked out of the Zig one day. Apparently the guards didn't even care. Who knows what's she's doing now though. Got to be honest with you, I didn't mind being around her. Didn't really care about anything when we were bunked together. Couldn't even be bothered to get my appeal together until I was transferred. Heh, oh well, I wouldn't worry about her anyways. She's just worthless haha. -Mauritania Jackson, former Sybil Burgess cellmate

Personality Traits

Personality, Appearance and Abilities:

Worthless typically appears as a wispy, young human looking female with maybe a touch of Eidolon fashion. Her face is almost always obscured in some way and she has slow, barely noticeable movements and mannerisms. She speaks with a ghostly, melodic slowness. Despite this, she is witty, down to earth and noticeably millennial in her sense of humor. Worthless often awkwardly inserts herself into groups for whatever reason with no intention of drawing any attention to herself. She has a very noticeable apathetic aura around her that can be merely an annoyance to some or a powerful drug to others.

Motivations

Worthless is motivated by two major things- A philosophical need to spread the void of apathy and see others give up their cares about life and death. She wants others to stop giving a shit about everything that she sees as so meaningless. Of course, she doesn't care enough to get into heated arguments about it or to preach on a soap box. She'll just subtly suggest alternatives to life with anyone that's willing to listen to her.

She is also motivated by a physiological need to siphon emotion. Worthless still has feelings, albeit extremely muted ones, but her own apathy aura is actively draining her human psyche and, in theory, killing her, or at best turning her into an unmotivated zombie. Worthless sustains herself through experiencing the emotions of others (see below).

Worthless is drawn to fear, lust, anger, joy, like a moth to a flame, but to both feel it's heat and to try and snuff it out. The irony of these two needs being at odds seems to be completely lost on her.

Illusion Manifestation

Worthless can create illusions that feel, look and sound real, drawn from the passions and fears of those around her. This is a psychic ability and can be resisted with any ability that resists that type. Those that are more emotional, excitable or fearful will tend to be more vulnerable to Worthless' main power. A typical manifestation would be draining someone's fear or passion and then overwhelming them with their own desire in a monkey paw kind of way, usually incapacitating them for a time and leaving them feeling a temporary apathy after the experience. Prolonged exposure to Worthless' ability can, in theory, permanently neuter one's emotions to the point of being a vegetable.

Apathetic Aura

Worthless exudes apathy in such a powerful away that it seems to effect all things. In fact, it seems to be those with the least about of will power are the things that are effected the most, including inanimate objects; the apathy aura literally slows down the molecules of matter, making things colder over time, slowing down individuals both physically and mentally (draining their motivation). Worthless does have control over this ability and if she can ever be bothered to focus it, she can even freeze her environment around her as her apathy aura seems to compels that localized part of the universe to go dormant. At her worst, she can stop things from living, as their molecules and motivation starts to disappear. On the flip side, if she were ever to find it in her to try, her aura could be focused to have some medicinal effects, dimming traumatic emotions and memories or even slowing down the effects of an injury. Some even say they feel a numb-type high of being in her presence and can find it relaxing in very small doses.

Emotional Addict

Magic aside, Worthless is still a mortal human girl and without motivation and emotion, she would, in theory, waste away like a vegetable herself. While Worthless is almost always stoic and unfazeable, her aura drains the emotions (mainly overwhelming ones like fears and passions) from others in order to keep her own psyche on a sort of magical life-support. This is the primary reason she does anything; looking for her next meal, either terrorizing a poor rogue isle citizen so she can simply drain off their fear or leeching off the revelry that overflows in Pocket D. Despite all her talk, Worthless still has a drive to exist, for whatever reason and she seems unaware or unable to see the duality of her existence.

Emotion Binge

The emotion she siphons off of others actually affect her the way real emotions would. This is akin to a chemically induced high for her. The stronger an emotion or the more powerful the will of the individual has direct impact on the length and severity of the emotion-trip. During these highs, she'll be uncharacteristically emotional, though, usually still rather muted from her own apathy aura. Even the worst of these binges end in a crash of self loathing and stoicism, sometimes even complete motionlessness for a time. It's not uncommon for her to just go inert for a minute or two in Pocket D after experiencing the roller coaster of super powered emotion that often gets flung around in there.

Philosophical Worthlessness

Worthless is her identity. She believes it's who she is utterly. Perhaps she even made some kind of unspoken contract with whatever entity gave her her powers, turning her identity into a unbreakable enchantment. No matter what evidence to the contrary or how much she may do things that seem worthwhile in a philosophical sense, it won't ever break her belief that she is the manifestation of worthlessness. She IS Worthless, and in her mind, there's no changing that.

((Immersive RP- Worthless has a living canon. Apathy, aside, Sybil is still a living, breathing human woman. There's an IC reason and motivation behind everything she does. I'm a super laid back RPer, but I don't appreciate any RP that violates the will of any character without the expressed OOC consent before hand, including Worthless' own powers: if your think your character can't be affected by my powers, so be it, it's YOUR character and your canon. Respect my canon, I'll respect yours and enjoy Rping with you! Also we all may make mistakes, so don't worry if we need to retcon or clarify something! ))
