Yuji (meaning Archer) is a hero primarily out of the Steel Canyon district of Paragon City. He is cynical, sarcastic, makes frequent pop-culture (especially science fiction) references, and often makes jokes at the expense of his friends and team-mates. He is also reliable, honest and known for being extremely well informed thanks to a wide range of informants (many not officially recognised by Hero Corps).

He has little difference between 'private' and 'hero' personas, even preferring the name Yuji to his birth name in conversation. He is a surprisingly skilled cook, a result of his travelling before taking up residence in Paragon City.

History

As a youth he was trained as a demon hunter by his family, expecting that later in life he would become the head of their order, who had for centuries been employed as one of the foremost spiritual pest control groups in northern Europe.

An accident during a training exercise led to the release of an extremely powerful demonic force, leading to the extermination of the clan, with Yuji himself only barely surviving, having exhausted his spiritual powers and having been horribly wounded in the process. After spending 3 years recovering from his wounds, he travelled the world, seeking to distance himself from his past and the loss of his family.

Eventually the savings he was using for his travel ran dry and he wound up working nights in Paragon city's Kings Row district. Over time he found himself forced repeatedly to use his training to protect himself and his colleagues from the drug gangs operating in that region. Eventually he decided to register as a professional hero to avoid risk of legal recrimination from the many thugs he'd fought off.

More recently, he has received a considerable sum of money from the liquidation of his family's remaining assets, and moved over to a more pleasant apartment in Steel Canyon. This coincided with his decision to return to his roots as a demon hunter, and to recover the spiritual abilities he developed before the massacre of his family.

He also recently came into possession of a small single-hand fighting axe of unknown origin. While he doesn't know much about it, he feels it is important and always keeps it ready and sharp.

Affiliations

Yuji is one of the founding members of the Night_Shift, though he frequently works independently of them. He also notably works with some members of the Do-Gooders supergroup, after being introduced to them by friend and colleague (and frequent joke target) Shockwayv.

Powers

While not a magic-user, Yuji taps in to the some of the same ambient energy fields used by mages. Condensing and shaping this energy to his will, then releasing it for a given effect. Most frequently Yuji uses this ability to form a highly powerful longbow, but it also allows him to move at high speeds (rivalling even the fastest speedsters over short distances) and to directly empower his physical attacks (boosting the speed and penetration of a simple arrow to deadly effect). Recently he has gained the ability use spirit energy to form a powerful suit of armour, formed according to memories of his family's demon hunting practises.

He also uses a thermoptic camouflage system overlaying his costume to render himself invisible to enemies or allies without specific optical tracking systems.
