Emily Rodriguez: Bio

This article depicts the personal experiences of the above stated starting from her early childhood to her recruitment into Jadewire.

Emily Rodriguez was born homeless. She spent her early childhood with only her mother, living in an alley in a bad area of Atlas Park. Gang activity was seen regularly, and Emily was taught at an early age to think quickly and on her feet. Having not a cardboard box to their name, and due to her mothers health problems, Emily was forced to steal to survive. However she’d rarely merely steal what she needed, she’d devise a plan. A means to get what she needed but avoid detection.

Things got particularly hard for Emily shortly after her 11th birthday, when at last her mother passed to illness. From then on, Emily had only herself. She’d continue to steal, but she became sloppy. She didn’t care if she got caught now that she no longer needed to take care of her mother. It was her lack of care that nearly got her killed.

Though she successfully picked the pocket of an unsuspecting young man outside the Atlas Park Bank, the man did not remain dumb to her actions for long. Before long, the man gave chase to her and within moments 4 others joined the chase with him. She realized to late he man she had robbed had been a member of the well known Hellions gang that inhabited much of Atlas Park. She ran, attempting to lose them in a series of twists and turns, but she only managed to disorient herself and she eventually turned into an alley that had no outlet. Cornered she backed to the wall of the skyscraper that blocked her path as the five members of the Hellions gang slowly and deliberately closed in on her. When one of the Hellions, the one she’d robbed, lifted a revolver level with Emily’s head, instinct took over.

What happened next, was hard to say because it happened so fast. The man shot, but his bullet did not connect with its target only feet away. To the Hellion, she didn’t even appear to move, but a smoking chip in the cement of the wall behind her head would indicate the bullet shot have made another hole in her skull. There was a moment of shocked silence and he pulled the trigger again… and again. What the criminal couldn’t see was the lightning quick moments of Emily dodging the bullet coming to rest in the exact position she started in. She did not even think as she preformed the actions, they happened as naturally as breathing. After emptying his revolver Hellion made to throw the gun at her, but with a sudden burst of speed, Emily charged him, knocking him back with the momentum of an express train. Before she knew it she was already half a mile away.

The days following the incident with the Hellions were ones of confusion for Emily. She couldn’t control this power. Any time she ran, she would take off like a bullet with no control over her speed. The slightest movements became difficult to control.

As time passed, Emily gained more and more control over her new power, but her super speed and reflexes were only the beginning. Emily began to find small fragments of bone poking out from her skin. He prospect frightened her and she feared she was under going a transformation. Fearful that she was to become a monster, she sought out a revered scientist in the field of mutant genetics, Dr. John Konvolachis. After taking from Emily a fragment of bone, Dr. Konvolachis immediately went to work to isolate the source of the phenomenon. After further tests of the fragments and Emily herself, Dr. Konvolachis discovered that Emily held the ability to enhance the growth of her skeletal structure. With the help of Dr. Konvolachis, Emily learned to control this ability and use it in a Varity of ways. It was not an easy trek, often she could not control it, causing spiked bone to shoot from her body, or expand from her skin. For this reason, she kept herself entirely isolated until she could control the ability.

After gaining control of her powers, she decided it was time to do something that mattered for once. She did not care if anyone knew it was Emily Rodriguez performing these amazing feats, but nonetheless, she created a suit of which to fight crime in and picked up the codename Speed Demon. Dr. Konvolachis continued to assist Emily as a contact until, in an effort to get to Emily, his lab was invaded and he was killed. Emily took the lost hard, but she realized she could not make a change in the world on her own.

It was by a chance meeting that she learned of the super-group known as Jadewire. After fighting along side a member of the super-team, she was put in contact with their leader and shortly there after was invited into the group. Hoping to become a member of their elite S.P.I.I. (Specialized Intelligence and Information), Emily strives to add her power to those of her teammates to make a change in the world drowning in a sea of crime and destruction.
