Gold Cop is a really old character idea of mine, from the time I was in elementary school. He's evolved a bit, becoming a lot more jaded personality wise, and has had some changes to be well converted to the CoX AT System, originally his force field only covered himself and he used dual pistols. When it came time for me to create a character I know I would want to seriously Role-play he seems like the best choice.

Powers

Born with no powers other than a tough body and mentality, Gold Cop relies on gadgets and allies to take down criminals. He has developed a keen sense of observation and knack for problem solving.

Equipment

Gold Cop Tech Harness

The golden harness Brian wears is one of the latest developments to come from the Tech Labs of the Paragon Police Department. The wearer establishes a psionic link with the harness allowing them to tap into the device at the speed of thought. The benefit of this is the speed of use, and a functionality that is only limited by the devices current power levels and the will/creativity of the wielder. The downside is that the functionality is limited by the devices current power levels and the will/creativity of the wielder. The more experience a user gets with the device, and the more confidence they have in their own abilities, leads to a larger selection of options at their disposal.

Currently Brian has been able to tap into a number of different types of shields and a couple of solid blasts of light energy. HE feels he is now nearing the peak of his ability to control the device generating large repulsion fields, highly accurate force blasts as well as experimenting with a complete energy nova.

Brian's belt has room for a number of other stored devices. He currently makes use of an anti-gravity device, and a portable medical unit.

Personality/History

Keeping watch even off duty.

Boston's a tough city to grow up in, and police is a tough line of work, especially with all these powers running around. Brian learned from an early age, that the local gang, is generally part of a not so local gang, and none of them are really looking out for the neighborhoods interest.

His father Westley was a firefighter. You might think that kind of job doesn't involve a lot of problems with crime or capes, but you'd be wrong. In the atomic age, more fires are caused by crossfire, developing mutants, or power crazed psychos than ever before. His father was always the one cleaning up the mess, but he was never bitter. His mantra to his son was, "It takes ordinary people, to keep things under control." He just wanted to make sure people had a home to back to.

Brian however, wanted to dig into the problem a little more. It wasn't enough to just put a band aid on things; you had to figure out the source of an issue and cut it off. That's pretty much the way he's examined life. Hasn't helped him much with the ladies, but it made him a damn good cop.

Over the course of the course of his career he took a lot of gangs head on, including the Family and the Tsoo, whose presence in Boston's crime scene may surprise some people. He's worked with a lot of supers too, and learned early that there's allot of different kinds out there; what's important is their level of personal responsibility.

When the Paragon Police were looking for someone looking for candidates to test out their new Gold Cop system Brian was already working under the title of special agent. After a brutal mental and physical testing period Brian was selected for the initial trials. As fate would have it, the perfect trial showed up at the same time. Someone finally ratted out the location of criminal Leilah Vyskah, head of the Abhayan. The new Gold Cop was added to the Task Force to take her down, and the operation, though a tough one, was a success.

There was one major downside to the mission however. While Brian was out fighting, his father Westley got caught in the crossfire of a gang fight and suffered fatal wounds. At the moment the events seem unrelated, but Brian can't help but look into the possibilities that it wasn't a random event.

Realizing the potential of letting one individual develop with the Gold Cop Tech Harness, Brian was transferred to Paragon for full active duty. There's been allot of publicity associated with the Gold Cop mantle, and Brian doesn't quite like to be considered a super hero. At the end of the day, he's working at keeping peace, and bagging bad guys, so for now he's willing to deal with it.

After acting as a police liaison and trainer for STORM (see Allies below), Gold Cop eventually was offered and accepted the position of Commander. He began spending most of his time with STORM rather than with the PPD and found them to be a reliable team with incredible potential.

After a mission for the agent Moonfire, Brian was left horribly scarred by an attack by Arakhn and without the use of one eye. The injury leave him in a small amount of pain and makes it difficult to smile. While some see him as more grim now, those who know him well know when he's kidding and having a good time through it all.

After such a brutal failing of his Gold Cop Force Fields, Brian started training again without the harness. He donned a standard S.T.O.R.M. Uniform as well as a pair of retractable steel claws, and took to the streets of some of the poorer neighborhoods of Paragon City. He even briefly kept a 2nd apartment in the Hollows. Due to the power difference between his natural ability and those of the tech harness, Brian has given up on this somewhat.

More recently, Brian has taken on additional work that keeps him traveling back and forth between Boston and Paragon City. He isn't willing to let people in on what he's up to, but it keeps him away from his duties as STORM Commander, so he's stepped down temporarily and his Directors are running operations.

Allies/Enemies

Gold Cop in his STORM Gear

Tsoo

Under Tub Ci's leadership, this Asian gang has always struggled to control the drug and smuggling trade in Paragon city. There influence spread up to Boston, where there Brian has fought against their heavy recruitment effort in China Town and with young idealized university students. They are one of two major gangs that Brian suspects for the death of his father.

The Family

Often seen as a Paragon only group, Boston has had its own share of historic mob groups. A little digging by Brian though found that the drug trade linked several Boston families to The Family in Paragon. His work with heroes here may is finally getting him closer than ever to the source of this massive group.

Leilah Vyskah

Former head of Abhayan, Gold Cop was one of the key individuals in taking her down. He bit of a little more than he could chew though, when she started looking at Federal deals. Now she's out again, and playing hero, with a special contract. Who else but Gold Cop to help keep an eye on her while she turns to good. . . or rather, plays along for her own self interest.

STORM

At one point, the Paragon Police Department received a call from Legion members about an new security force they were putting together. Gold Cop got volunteered to act as a police liaison and help with some of the initial development. Eventually, this led to a job as Commander of the organization.

Working with his team he has developed a building camaraderie with the cities heroes. He counts his directors Imitation and Gravartol as his most trusted allies, and have developed surprising friendships with Agent Lotus Rose, as well as allies Arrelin Windspire and Electric-Knight.

More recently, Brian has taken on additional work that keeps him traveling back and forth between Boston and Paragon City. He isn't willing to let people in on what he's up to, but it keeps him away from his duties as STORM Commander, so he's stepped down temporarily and his Directors are running operations.

Gold Cop I

The original Gold Cop started out as just a good cop like Brian. A chemical spill during a pursuit through and old warehouse changed his life forever. He was suddenly the home of incredibly tough skin and muscle tissue. The cops ran with it, needing all the positive press they could get, and soon Gold Cop, as he came to be called was a household name, and a hero of epic proportions.

During the first Ritki War though he found an open portal while leading a small strike team, and heroically or foolishly led them to take the fight back to the Ritki homeworld. He never came back, and the world has grieved his loss.

Trivia/Notes

  • Gold Cops personality has evolved slightly as I have played him. Currently he seems to be a mix of classic Hawkeye and Nick Fury.
  • Gold Cop is secretly jealous of those who control their powers without the need for supplementary devices.
  • He enjoys "good beer", preferring select Irish Imports, Samuel Adams, and occasionally Labatt Blue.
