Infinity Inc/Gough Island
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Gough Island is a mostly-uninhabited little volcanic island in the southern Atlantic Ocean. A new six-person team for the weather station, along with all their supplies for the next year, are flown in once per year; the old team, and any detritus that needs to be removed, are flown out. Nearby, Inaccessible Island has the makeup of the perfect quintessential villainous lair, being an extinct volcano that is completely uninhabited, unfriendly even to small animals, and incredibly difficult to explore at all; but that very textbook-perfect nature is why Simon Arkangel did not choose it.
Concealed underneath Gough Island is a research facility for Infinity, Inc. On the rare occasion where a new superpower is discovered - some metahuman trait not yet captured, dissected, catalogued, and stored in the Vault - an Acquisitions team will hunt down a person with this power. They do not grab any subjects making headlines. The goal is to not draw heroic interests!
Sometimes that means Acquisitions has to settle for an imperfect example ... a powered individual whose ability does not work very strongly, or very often, or has stability issues. Maybe the subject does not generally use his abilities because the side effects are so unpleasant.
No matter. If Acquisitions must be sent out for additional specimens, well, that is part of their mandate!
Captured specimens are smuggled into the base while unconscious. Their lives afterward are likely to be short and very unpleasant.
Occasionally the Gough Island facility requisitions a victim without any metahuman powers at all, in fairly good health, but with a genetic flaw that makes DNA transplantation particularly easy. In this case, they are testing out a prototype. Most prototypes are not considered successes. Those will be sent to "Project Bloodwyrm" as prey for the creatures.
Rarely, a prototype will turn out such a resounding success that it is placed in a temporary coma. The poor man or woman is shipped to the Laos facility or the Mongolia facility for further modification.
All employees at the Gough Island facility are part of Physical Design. They wear white coats. The company logo embroidered on the coat breast has a blood-red lemniscate inside a forest green ring. Most carry the title "Scientist" since their primary business is analytical research. Two or three "Technicians" may be present, maintaining the equipment and conducting the occasional prototyping experiment. Junior team members handle cleanup and other housekeeping duties. Everyone shares responsibility for meal preparation, for taking a turn manning the communications/observation station that lets them know what is happening on the island surface and in the nearby seas, and for updating the supply list.
Simon Arkangel inspects this facility twice a year, unless something interesting brings him by more often.
