Physical

Appearance

He is tall with a well shaped and strong body, though no one has ever seen him doing physical training. Black hair and brown eyes, he is always quite awake and active. Every now and then his eyes would glow with a weird intensive green aura.

Personality

Matt is a very cheerful person, almost always smiling and trying to put a joke to ease moods. He is known to be a very easy person to be around of, as he rarely seeks any kind of conflict. He daydreams a lot and usually will make notice that he is hungry... which is pretty much always.

((OOC)) Matt is very down to earth, thing that might sounds ironic for a Mender of Ouroboros that is also a known practitioner of Magic. Things are simple as long as we don't try to over-think them.

He respects all kind of ideas and traits, except when those are directly posing a threat to people, be it mentally or physically.

Usually avoid subjects that have controversies tied to them, and will most likely try to people to get along. But do not take him lightly, although he always seems to be absent minded or simplistic, he is by no means dumb. He won't judge people but he will make them work to win his trust.

Character History

Origin

Matt's story is a bit of a cliche, as he calls it himself.

Son of Marth and Rachel Smith, they both moved to Texas not long after the birth of young Matt. They were retired from hero work, or at least for a time while the baby grew up. It was a regular and happy life, while it lasted.

As heroes, Marth and Rachel both made quite a few enemies... and one of the most dangerous one being a person who had recently escaped prison. Due a series of weird circumstances, this villian managed to get his hand on extremely powerful and dangerous radioactive powers... Something the couple wasn't ready for when the attack started.

Marth was very adept with his Nether Powers, trait of the Smiths, and managed to fight off the attacker while Rachel protected their son. But the Time Lady knew that it was already too late, even if they were to survive the attack, the radiation had affected them enough and she knew only a few minutes of life would remain after this fight.

They were going to fight, but she was going to ensure their baby survival. She quickly placed her most powerful protection runes on the baby and joined the effort... The fight didn't last long. In less than half an hour a huge explosion was felt in the place... then silence. Silence that quickly faded away by the crying of young Matt, sole survivor of the incident.

Growing up

The kid was evidently inmune to radiation after that night. He got a ward from the state. Matt has never complained about this life, even if he was never adopted there were a lot of kids around at all times, he saw them arrive and leave over the years, and this made him the social person he is today. He knew about the incident that left him orphan, he was aware of his Nether powers inherited by his father and about the weird rune on his right hand that emmited some weird glow.

But... life was good... even by the time he was 12 and he started a very accelerated growth... By the time he was 13, his body was that of a grown up man, not too different from what he is today.

It's not hard to guess that he became very popular on the neighborhood that year.

Back to Paragon

It was that same year that they informed him he was going to move, that someone had adopted him. Finally a relative of his father had appeared, a hero in Paragon City, Alexander Connor.

He called Matt and explained that he and his father were sworn brothers in arms, that he had a huge house and that he wanted Matt to move with him. He also promised to share all knowledge and stories he had from his Father and Mother. Matt was thrilled.

When he arrived, he met his uncle and and his cousins, Alexandra and Emma Connor, the latter being the niece of Alexander and also adopted like him.

It was with his new family that Matt developed his sense of duty and honor. He learned to use and control his powers... and life was still good.

2009 Joining the Paragonian Knights and the need for Help

6 years had passed since the Rikti War...

After a lot of convincing from Alexandra, Matt finally registered as a hero and stopped his vigilante work. Just like his uncle would have liked.

Life wasn't the same after his uncle died at the Rikti War, but he died the way he liked, defending the city he loved along the rest of the Alpha team.

It took him a while, but Matt even found a supergroup. The Paragonian Knights... who came in a very important time, since he needed help. His powers weren't acting the way they used to... his rune on the back of his hand would itch. He felt angry whenever he used his powers for too long.

As he looked for help, he met Daria St. Claire, magic teacher and soon to be Headmistress of the Grae Academy. She was quick to try to help him, and it was during a series of events that it all became clear. Part of the villain who had killed his parents has become part of him and the rune was protecting him from that.

Together with the Knights, they got rid of the threat... and even after all of this, life was good. What can we say? Matt isn't a person who complains.

Roses, Thorns, Family and Death

It had never been hard to Matt to get along with people, even if to most the most evident was his very easy going attitude, that could be sometimes regarded as careless. It wasn't long before he started to mingle with the people at Paragonian Knights, specially within the Grae Academy where he as now helping guard while he took the courses that he was missing so he could finally take his tests and receive his High School degree.

A lot of people he met, some more noteworthy than others, but he enjoyed the company of each one of them. Elizabeth Bloodmoon was one of those people, he simply loved to debate with her about any aspect of life they were looking at any given moment, yet another person who felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Alice, Ellie, Sam, Hope, Iris, Kyria, Aster... much of these people started to become a family to him, and even though it was hard for people to take Matt seriously, he always managed to keep a cheerful mood around all of them.

One person did catch his eye in a different way though... Dawning Rose. Her accent, sense of humor and blazing red hair made the cowboy instantly interested in her, even though they never seemed to managed to find the right time. One night of talking, flirting and jokes would become sometimes days or weeks without them coinciding in the same place again, but Matt hasn't been one person to worry... and even less he has ever been insecure. He knew the time would come.

Life was good, though something certainly made life complicated... The announcement of the time traveler Julianna Fieldings about Matt's future. It was announced that he would die shortly at the hand of an unknown Praetorian threat.

But hey, if life is good, all good things come to an end, don't they?

To Learn Time and Offer from the Menders

Matt went to the only place he could think of, Ouroboros. There he started studying by himself the Time Traveling phenomena. He couldn't use Time Traveling itself to solve this situation... though he was rather calmed.

He wasn't worried about his life, as a person who can tap the Nether, he knows better than to fear death. But the thought of the girls crying his death without being able to do something is what he tried to prevent. Then the answer came to him... to change his fate, he should make the situation work as if he had never known about the upcoming future.

It wasn't hard, even though it should have. It worked out so well that Mender Silos went to contact the cowboy personally. Matt had proven to have the skills of a Time Lord, he had learned to live outside time, he could be very useful for the goals of Ouroboros and the coming storm.

Matt asked for time... as ironic as it seems... to answer his offer. And after some meditation, he knew what he had to do, time itself demanded it. And so, Matt Smith was now a Mender of Ouroboros.

Life as a Mender

Matt's powers had always had a lot of potential... and as a Time Lord he took his skills to the next level. Being able to heal more people, to heal them faster, and now able to handle situations that he wouldn't have been able before put things into perspective to him.

He soon contacted Elizabeth Bloodmoon, who he by now considered a young sister, asking what he could to help... His life wasn't really his, he managed to trick fate and still be on this world, so he would help as many people as he could during the time he had on him.

This is how he became a volunteer at the local hospitals while he wasn't on duty or patrolling. Knowing that this would make his parents and uncle proud of him.

Learning to live on the Present

For the first time on his life, he found himself not happy.

Rose was nowhere to be found, and as a Time Lord he wasn't allowed by the law of causality to use his powers to know about her whereabouts or fate. This troubled him for too long, since before her disappearance they had finally talked about taking a real chance for them both. And after long months of waiting, he knew he had to let her memory go.

His people, those he had sworn to protect with all his strength, wouldn't trust him and see how capable he was to help them properly. He felt for the first time taken for granted, though this never changed his willingness to protect them. It didn't help the fact that Menders and Time Lords are mostly confusing people to the rest.

He had a new work to do, helping the Fennec Enterprises while they found another magic specialist, and at least this and glancing through time to protect his people kept his mind busy enough to not worry about his lack of good mood. If life wasn't hard, he soon learned that the woman that had helped him so much, Daria St. Claire was going through one, if not the most, difficult time in her life after her fiancee had died in the field.

Cheering up people and helping with their perspective in life was something he could do! That's what he thought. Daria had always been there for him in the few times he had needed it, and she just needed a friend.

What he didn't expect, was that in the upcoming days that friendship would become something more.

They began their new journey together, because together they felt that there wasn't something in the world that they couldn't face... It has been difficult to re-learn to live only in the present, but both of their happiness reassure that it is definitely the best thing to do.
