Longbow Report submitted on Shivan Wrath

Background info

Records list Ryan Matthews as being born on Mercy Island in the Rogue Isles, son of Robert and Kelly Matthews. Rogue Isles Police records show Robert Matthews was involved with one of the many local gangs, his file also lists various calls of domestic violence reported against him by neighbors – but no charges were pressed by his wife. Ryan’s father passed away when the boy was eight years old, stabbed in his own home – murdered by members of a rival gang according to Ms Matthews’ official statements. Several months later young Ryan wound up in his first orphanage after his mother passed away due to a drug overdose.

According to orphanage files the boy was difficult to deal with and would often get into fights with the other kids, until he ran away when he was ten. He was recovered a few weeks later by the R.I.P. and placed into a new orphanage since the first one refused to take him back – claiming they had already filled his spot with a new orphan. Things didn’t improve much in the new place and after several violent incidents Matthews ran away again, this time at the age of 14 and with no one putting much effort into recovering him. Shortly after his time on the streets he fell in with his first gang, working for them as a courier. Eventually they disbanded under pressure from rival gangs and Matthews fell in with several other gangs in the following years, becoming a full fledged thug and enforcer who eventually wound up doing freelance for the Family whenever they hired outside help.

Project Shivan Ascendant

At age 22 Matthews volunteered to participate in an experiment codenamed “Project Shivan Ascendant” after hearing about it from the underground recruiters going around. Not many records remain of the exact details, but it is known that the project was one of the many super soldiers programs that are being undertaken by scrupulous organizations worldwide. This particular one focused on infusing their subjects with the energies found radiating from the meteors in Oceanview, AKA Bloody Bay. Even though details are sparse it is rumored that the process was extremely dangerous, with a rumored mortality rate of 85% before the final stages were reached. It was during one of these stages that the hidden facility became under attack by the creatures known as “Shivans”. From the little security footage that survived the incident it is clear that Matthews used this opportunity to escape.

Matthews spent the following year laying low while he tried to gain a measure of control over his newfound powers judging by the information we have gathered to compile this report. Many incidents and murders have been attributed to the fledgling villain during those times, some incidental while others definitely on purpose. By the end of the year Matthews obviously considered his mastery over his powers well enough to put them to use self gain, he ordered himself a “supervillain costume” from the Facemaker, consisting of a set of light body armor, a metal skull to cover his head and a green trenchcoat to complete the outfit. He then started taking contracts from the various sharks that make the Isles their home, using the alias “Shivan Wrath”, putting him on Longbow’s radar in no time. A Longbow surveillance team tracked and observed him for a while, noting that for some reason Matthews had “killing cycles”, at every 4-6 hours interval he would go out and kill something – generally homeless people, prostitutes and everything else that was easy prey. The agents who’ve submitted the information made note of profuse sweating and him turning noticeably paler at these times until he found some victim to melt down, after which he seemed refreshed.

Sin Enterprises

It wasn’t long after the start of his new career that he joined the company Sin Enterprises as Powered Security. As you are no doubt aware of opinions about this company vary greatly within Longbow, with some seeing them as nothing more than a second Crey Industries on the rise, while others seem to believe the “Working towards a better Future” slogan the twin sisters have come up with. There he fell in with other superpowered criminals like himself, some of them mutants, others monsters created by science and dangerous mercenaries wearing power armors. After a while the killing cycles stopped for some reason, either Sin’s scientists “fixed” whatever was wrong with him or he found someone else to take care of it. Whatever the case might be, it was also around this time that Matthews seems to have developed the ability to transform into some kind of human/insect hybrid with even further enhanced regeneration then in his normal state. Whatever Sin’s goals may be, the company seems to have had its influence on the villain – like most of their shady employees he has stopped using lethal force during confrontations with Longbow. Matthews rose to an officer position within the company a good three months after initially joining them, which has lowered his criminal activities on the side considerably.

Affiliations

Mitsuko Yubari

Behind every great man there is a psychotic girlfriend.

Ryan met Mitsu on his first day at Sin while socializing and getting to know the other members of the Powered Security division. The two hit it off right from the start, doing their best to annoy and creep out their peers. A few weeks later Ryan finally asked her out and the two have been an item ever since. Mitsu has gone through great changes over the months since joining Sin, learning to control her violent impulses better, which makes Ryan infinitely proud of her for being so strong.

Sam the sadist

Sam joined Sin not long before Ryan did, and shortly after Mitsuko had the rejoined company. Being the same age as Ryan and being of one the rookies in the company as well it’s no surprise the two became friends. Even though Sam left the company after a good two months the two still stay in touch.

Brushfyre

Flambard

Donald Brook returned to Sin after a long and unpleasant hiatus around the time Ryan joined. The two are almost as different as night and day, Don being the middle aged serious veteran soldier and Ryan the young wisecracking jester, despite this the two often work together and to good effect. The combination of different outlooks and fighting styles makes the two a well balanced and deadly team as they've often proved when threats rose up against Sin. Ryan teases Don relentlessly about just about everything he gets the chance of, while Don spends most of his time calling him a "daft tosser". An often made joke of Ryan's is how he sees Don as his father figure, which ironically isn't that far from the truth even though he'd never admit it.

Megan Wattson

Mind Viper

Lisa Anderson was one of the other rookies to join Sin around the same time as Ryan. Originally she was known as Claire Walker, an ex Arachnos Widow whose budding psychic powers ran wild and caused trouble. Ryan originally couldn't stand the girl who was always feeling sorry for herself and when she started dating Sam and dragging him along in her trouble things didn't improve, not to mention the fact that Mitsuko pretty much hated her. After a long history of venomous bickering and after Claire Walker "died" to be replaced with Lisa Anderson, Ryan and her have become good friends, although this doesn't stop him from making all kinds of jokes about her sexlife (which mostly aren't true).

Naipe

Esteban Alejandro Montilla de la Rosa, the energetic, womanizing, hispanic goofball supervillain with a penchant for getting himself into trouble (and even more miraculously out of it again!). Naipe used to work with Ryan at Sin Enterprises until Naipe left to pursue his lifelong dream as a chef at the trendy nightclub - Pulse. From there Esteban started his own tv show, The Rogue Chef - where he continues his usual antics. Ryan likes to goof around with Esteban, much to the annoyance of the more serious people who might happen to be around at the time (and often at their expense!).

Angela Sin and Kira Sin

Personality

Ryan is ever the jester, the eternal joker - always wisecracking about something. He likes to play the fool, acting silly most of the time - there are however few things that get past him.
