Origin

Project Whalesong was a secret military project to try to teach dolphins advanced underwater maneuvers such as planting mines and bombs or other kinds of sabotage. The lead scientist for the project achieved his greatest success when he used genetic material from his dead daughter to modify the DNA of a dolphin. The dolphin's mother died at birth but the strangely deformed offspring survived and proved to be if not more intelligent than her origin species, at least intelligent in a different way. A more human way.

Whalesong spent the first years of her life with her creator while he struggled to recreate his masterpiece. During this time she was outfitted with cybernetic arms and a robotic tail which could split into functional legs, as well as many other useful implants. Working as an assistant to her "father" she absorbed much of his knowledge of biology, genetics and cybernetics. Training for a future military application she learned demolitions, martial arts and tactics. However, that day would never come.

Frustrated by the lack of results, the military decided to remove the lead scientist from Project Whalesong. They planned to vivisect the only succesful specimen in order to find out why it had been succesful in order to be able to recreate the experiment. When her creator found out about these plans he told her to escape and find refuge in Paragon City. Whalesong left the underwater laboratory where she had been born for the last time. She never saw the man she had come to think of as her father again.

The genetically modified and cybernetically enhanced dolphin has taken the name of the project as her own. Since she arrived in Paragon City in 2006 she has been working with several groups of heroes, including the League of Justice, Next Wave, the DNAnimals and most recently Calibre.

Powers

Whalesong has a cybernetically amplified sonar which she can use to blast her enemies with devastating sonic bursts. She has an instinctive knowledge of how technology works - perhaps intended as a way to allow her to repair herself if she was injured during an assignment, or maybe a result of studying her father's work. She has used her mechanical and scientific skills to build various kinds of weapons and gadgets, including web grenades, a triage unit, poison mines, an acid grenade mortar and a force field generator.

The force field generator when combined with a special guiding staff can project powerful blasts of kinetic energy and the same technology which lets the generator hover allows Whalesong to fly through the air as comfortably as if she was swimming.
