PERSONALITY

XStatic lives for the rush brought on by danger. Unlike those of arguably saner disposition, she actively pursues hazardous and possibly deadly situations. She is not consciously suicidal or self-destructive - XStatic simply seeks the stimulation of imminent disaster. She takes joy in her thrill-seeking lifestyle. It gives her strength to take on and overcome greater challenges. Given the chance, XStatic will indulge in her passion as deeply as possible.

HISTORY

Cassidy Bishop sighed, looking into the dark, over the city wall, and out toward the perimeter and the searchlights scanning the Wilds beyond.

There weren't many problems with life in Praetoria. Cassidy showed every indication of becoming the model citizen of the Empire; blonde, blue-eyed, athletic, popular, with incredible educational opportunities available, free of charge. Anything she wanted or needed was hers for the asking; didn't the Emperor himself say that no citizen of Praetoria would be denied the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential? That was great, and life was wonderful, right?

Sure.

There was only one thing about Praetorian life, really... it was boring. Stultifyingly, soul-crushingly, "plate-of-mashed-potatoes-but-no-salt-please-gotta-watch-my-blood-pressure" boring.

Crime was not an issue; there were the Praetors, and swarms of police everywhere, including Powers Division. Even the Clockwork could help defend the city, if it came to it. A girl couldn't get in trouble if she wanted to, because of the Seers, who'd stop crime even before it started... and what if you wanted to get in trouble with the Resistance wackos and play damsel-in-distress until Captain Handsome came to save your long-legged bacon? Nope. Regular sewer sweeps took care of that.

Competition wasn't as fun as it used to be. Cassi was co-captain of the swim team at school. Few swimmers from other districts could match her skill. The occasional heart-pounding photo finish was a possibility, but depending on that to get you by wasn't enough if you were the kind of person to thrive on excitement. You had to get your kicks whichever way you could... and in Praetoria, there weren't many ways at all. If you were smart, though, you could find a couple.

She glanced about self-consciously. A detachment of PPD officers were busy herding a group of Destroyers into a transport vehicle. Now was her chance. She slipped off her shoes and began to climb one of the decorative marble spires that existed every few hundred feet along the wall. Nearby Clockwork busied themselves with their menial tasks, paying no attention to the teenager inching her way out over the river. Glancing downward, Cassi felt vertigo trying to grab her senses. Her heart sped up; this was what she was looking for! A little more... there! Prodding the marble gently with her toes, feeling for the edge of the spire, she readied herself for a twenty-story freefall. She had no fear, for the river below would catch her as it always did. She stood tall, raising her hands victoriously above her head, arched her back, tensed for the dive... and slipped, plummeting with unexpected grace to the terraced base of the wall two hundred feet below. She heard the chittering of a Clockwork opening its comlink to medical emergency services. Cassi tried to tell it everything was fine, she didn't feel pain... but no words would come, and she couldn't move. Slowly, everything faded.

Cassi opened her eyes, readying for the swim back to the public access stairwell... but there was no river. There was only a doctor, a clean, white hospital room, and an odd tingling sensation. "Glad to see you're back with us, Miss Bishop, absolutely ecstatic, in fact! Beautiful day for a walk, isn't it?" The doctor raised an expectant brow. "Come on, now, let's see what you can do."
