Who is A. Nonymous?
In the month of October, 2011, a couple of Rogue Isle super villains by the name of Maestro Fortissimo and Nine-Ball were put into contact with one another by a mysterious third party known only to them as A. Nonymous. By providing them funds and direction, this individual deigned commissioned them to form a league of organized costumed criminals called United Underworld. This they did, and since then have enjoyed virtually unbroken success as the group has grown in power, membership, and prestige.
And yet, the question remains, who is A. Nonymous? What is their purpose? Why did they help form United Underworld in the first place? The answers remain unknown, but in their place several theories have cropped up to help explain them away.
Is it Nemesis?
The Prussian Prince of Automatons is so frequently wound up in plots and intrigue that the phrase "Its all a Nemesis plot" has become a common expression. No doubt the former Emperor of the Americas could find a use for a team of super powered villains secretly held under his thumb, but why bother when his own armies and robotic duplicates could serve just as well with far more loyalty? Perhaps even suspecting that this or that is the result of his devious machinations is the kind of paranoia he desires most of all, and if so, how ironic and yet how true it is to finally admit its all a Nemesis plot.
Is it a Rikti Restructurist?
It is common knowledge that for several years now the extra-dimensional aliens known as the Rikti have engaged in open hostilities against our world. But what is not as well known is all the manner of ways in which the Rikti have tried to infiltrate and control their human enemies below the surface. From the mutated Lost, to alien doppelgangers like Kelly Uqua of Crey Industries, the Rikti have demonstrated time and again their mastery of subterfuge and insidious assimilation. Could the creation of a group of villains be the latest attempt at weakening human resistance and pave the way for a third Rikti invasion?
Is it a Malta Director?
Perhaps no para-military organization is as feared by super powered people as the Malta Group, and most make the effort to avoid them at all cost. And yet, as capable as they are in combat, some forget that their true strength lies in the art of espionage, their hidden roots born out of such organizations as the CIA and the KGB. At the top of the Malta food chain dwell the Directors, leaders so mysterious that they keep their identities a secret even from each other. Is A. Nonymous a pseudonym for one of these higher-ups, intending to use United Underworld as a weapon to be deployed when the time is right?
Is it an Arachnos agent?
Project: DESTINY has always been at the forefront of the mind of Lord Recluse. For this reason his efforts to accumulate mass numbers of villains within his shores and let them operate unabated have been a major part of his plans for some time. What better way to keep track of his more promising specimens than to initiate a setting wherein they all might gather together and act seemingly on their own accord, yet still remain trapped in the devious web of Arachnos? Perhaps A. Nonymous is none other than Arachnos spymaster Viridian, or the femme fatale known as Shadow Spider.
Is it a Family Don?
In a world of super-powered freaks throwing their weight around it is the Family that has always survived, maintaining their tenuous hold on turf in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles even now. What better way to keep a handle on things than to privately take charge of a whole gang of menacing villains and point them at their spandex-wearing foes, allowing for your simple neighborhood gangsters to gobble up all the real power? Who else besides the Family has the money and resources to front so costly an operation? Maybe A. Nonymous is Sebastian Frost himself.
What Has He Done?
Since playing his part in the construction of United Underworld, A. Nonymous seemingly receded into the shadows until he suddenly made contact with the group in February of 2012. Communicating only through United Underworld's internal network, he sent a message to all members indicating that he desired the villain's assistance in completion of a project to help strengthen their forces. Under the leadership of Wild Time the group complied, and followed Nonymous' orders into first raiding a Tsoo storehouse for weapons, harvesting Freakshow cybernetic components, and stealing arms from the Malta Group. In addition, Nonymous directed them to kidnap three individuals he deemed specialist in their own fields: a Freakshow technician by the name of Fixx0r, the erstwhile Crey scientist known as Dr. Quatrexin, now calling himself White Scorpion, and a high-ranking Malta operative known only by the code name Black Bird. When all of these ingredients were gathered it was revealed to be the finishing touches of an ongoing effort to create an army of powerful clones to assist United Underworld in any way possible. These clones, collectively known as the Human Engineered Nano-Cybernetic Hybrids, or H.E.N.C.H. Men, were thus completed by the technological augmentations provided from knowledge gleaned from Fixx0r and Quatrexin, imprinted with the battle experience gained from Black Bird, and armed to the teeth. Although Malta forces were able to find Nonymous' facility in an attempt to recover their agent, the villains of United Underworld intervened and repelled the invaders while their mysterious benefactor slipped away unseen. He has since apparently set up new shop in another secret location, and the flow of H.E.N.C.H. Men continues unabated.
