Early Years

On July 4th 1973, a baby was born to a ex. military senator, Henry, and his doctor wife, Elizabeth. The two have now become three, as Jonathan (as they called him) was part of the most caring family a small boy could have. Everyone who knew Jonathan could tell that this boy would grow up to accomplish great things.

Jon spent his days like most boys, playing sports with local kids. No matter what Jon played, he excelled at it. Warm summer afternoons where the sun was shrouded by the thick Oak trees were memories that Jon would remember forever.

When Jon was 14, He went to his local high school, Independence High School. There he made the Varsity football team as a linebacker. No matter what happened, no one could stop him. He was nicknamed by friends at school as "the train." For Jon, He merely felt he was just good at the game and all that working out in training must of contributed to his success.

However tragedy stiked in 1987, as his mother developed an inoperable brain tumor. To this day, Jonathan still tries to forget the sterile stench, the white walls, and an ill mother. The next year she passed away.

His Father's Care

After Jon's mother passed away, the happy family of three became two. His father became the primary caretaker of Jon as he finished up high school. Henry was well liked in politic's and his medals for outstanding bravery made him a recognizable community figure. Jonathan modeled his actions after his father. He learned that bravery and kindness were personality traits that he probably inhereted from his upbringing. To the end of high school, Jonathan got even stronger. He graduated top at his class and continued on with his education at Chicago Freedom University. Henry was proud of his son.

After recieving a degree in Architecture, Jon realized he enjoyed a more "hands on approach" as he became a construction worker. To Jon, he felt that working outdoors was peaceful and that he had the the skills of strenght to be successful in construction.

The Catalyst

One day, on a hot summer afternoon, Jon was given orders to construct a siding for the new town hall that was to be built. Jonathan diligently worked on placing the steel rods into the hard dirt and bolting in the rough wood and heavy metal siding to the rods. Next, Jon applied concrete to his work. What happen next was unexpected.

When the wet concrete was applied, the stability of the siding was comprimised and the piece began to break. Then in a sudden crack, Jonathan Baker lied beneath almost a ton of raw materials. Workers quickly scrambled to the aid of Jonathan, but failed at removing any of the debris. Then a rod fell to the floor releasing a very abrubt "clank" as it hit the floor. Then another piece of stone fell to the ground. The frightened workers peered on as they saw a man slowly emerge from the pile. Jonathan stopped, and in a violent "hand clapping" motion the debris erupted around him and he was set free.

That very night, Jon came home around 7:00 pm. Exhausted and equally shocked from todays experience, Jon decided to turn on his Television that lied beneath his American Flag. He made a cheeseburger, and relaxed watching his favorite baseball team on the tube. In that moment, breaking news erupted about a hostage situation at his local bank. Thinking about events today, Jon leap from his leather chair and ran to the bank. He snuck in the back way, so the police wouldn't see him, and looked around at the situation from the gap that lied between the door and the wall. There was two robbers, five hostages all blindfolded and one wounded person. Jon leap in, the robbers turned their attention to him as they fired their guns. Jonathan used his "Hand Clap" and the bullets broke and the closer robber fell back. In one sweeping uppercut the other robber was down.

He stood up looking around. He glanced at the wounded man to help him, but soon shock fell over him. It was his dad, shot in the stomache. Falling to his knees Jon held his dad as he was dying. He said he was proud of Jon, and that his talent should not go unused. Henry Baker was dead. The police rushed in, however Jon was gone.

From that day, Jonathan no longer was a construction worker. He vowed to protect those in situations that they needed protection and avenge his fathers death.

Aftermath

Jon could not sleep that night. He did not know what to do at this point. With eyes open, sprawled across his messy bed his eyes glanced over to his American Flag once more. The sense of Liberty percolated in his brain. "Justice for All" he states... At the moment, He gets up and grabs his flag... He fashions it, quite shoddily with some other clothes he had around. Although Jonathan never sewed before, his pride fueled his creativity and thus the basic outline of his costume was born. However it was not done. Jon quickly journeyed back to the place where his life changed. The town hall. The wall which had collapsed on him was still in the pile where he had left it. He didn't know what he was looking for, until he found it. A curved piece of white steel. Picking it up with both hands, Jonathan flip it back and forth, back and forth. He went over the the tools still laid out and melded the steel into a formed fashioned, testing it to his right shoulder ever so often. He had found an appropriate reminder, as well as a defense enhancing piece: His renowned shoulder piece.

After that some time passed, and things had changed around Paragon, for the better. American Avenger. was well known and well liked. He was a prime example for the children and a beacon of hope in a seemingly desperate area.Initial contact from Portal Co. was an honor to The American Avenger. After Jon got much deserved popularity in Paragon, He was called to take part in an extensive secret operation. Portal Co., Had located a dimension where Evil was dominant. Dr. Petcher, a Portal Co. scientist, notified Avenger about a division of Recluse's men about to embark a full scale attack on present day Paragon.

Avenger, thus plummeted into the Portal and was sent dimensionally into a disheveled alternate Portal Co. Dr. Weathers was there to great Avenger, Presenting him a new suit to help level the playing field. The suit is made of poly optical fibers. The fibers add additional resistance and flexibility to handle the new environment. On his way out, Dr. Weather's brought him one more item of interest, a modified mask. This mask covers his mouth and face, unlike his old uniform. "What reason?" asked Avenger. "To block dust and other particles from entering your nose and mouth. Haven't you had trouble with that every time you bust down a wall with your body?" Avenger chuckles, perhaps a thanks is heard as he walks out to complete his task.

The Palladium Sentry

When Jon was visiting his mom at the Moffit Center in Tampa, he did not know he was in the presence of his future friend and leader: Knight Sentinel.

Years later, He was approached by Knight Sentinel to become the Palladium Sentry's 2nd member. As time progress, so did the Sentry's success. Becoming one of the most renown Superhero organizations, it is no questions to the American Avenger contribution to it's success. In his dedication to The Palladium Sentry, he had become second in command.

He's meet, recruited, and befriended many of the Sentry's members. Well liked and well respected.

((Post Thoughts/comments/opinions of American Avenger.)

  • Knight Sentinel ~ "Jon is a real titan among titans. If the world were going to end in an hour, the first person I would call would be AA. He's been at my side for many a fight...and I know that whatever force descends on the Sentry, he will be there to shoulder the weight. I don't think the man knows the meaning of the word fear; then again why should he? He's the American Avenger."
  • Lightkeeper ~ "Loyal and courageous, he serves as a prime example of what the Sentry represents. I am honored to stand at his side, through the good and bad."
  • Side-shift ~ "It is super fun to sit in his office when he is trying to interview people and yell at them *laughs* Naw, I'm kidding. AA's a good guy... and an excellent meat shield."
  • Nigredo Fist ~ "Should there be anyone who would ask me to list a few people that I trust, I would have to list Mr. Avenger as one of them. If I have any troubles and can turn to no one else, I know I can turn to him. I also hold him in high regard and respect, and wouldn't think twice about assisting him with missions should he require it."
  • Matt King ~ "I've known AA for awhile now, and in that time, I have come to see a great hero and an even greater friend. He is a tremendous asset to the Palladium Sentry and we should all be glad that he is fighting with us in protecting the people of Paragon City."
  • Lo' Puma ~ "I'de follow t'e guy ta 'ell an' back."
  • Blue Mage ~ "Mr. Avenger is a great man and a great leader. He leads by example and The Sentry follow him with zeal and complete trust that he has earned time after time."
  • Lightmare ~ "He's a good guy, really strong; But also kinda lame... Wait he's not going to hear this is he?"
