The Andromeda Knight, a Kheldian powered invincible android and member of the Gods of the Golden Age. To hear it from the towering automaton's baritone voice, the Peacebringer Corona Shield was critically wounded in a Nictus ambush during it's journey to Earth. While surviving the assault, it's injuries forced it to be entombed within a powerful mechanical body which protects the Earth, America, Mom and Apple Pie as the Andromeda Knight!

Biography

Deep in the void of the Sol system in mid-2008, the Kheldian warrior known as Corona Shield was en route to route to Earth to join his comrades in their battle against the hated Nictus. Exiting the Asteroid Belt, he was ambushed by his dark brethren. Though outnumbered and surprised, the Kheldian fought valiantly, trying to battle his way to Earth and the protection it would offer. The flashes of light and void stretched across millions of miles as the energy beings weaved and dueled and tore and evaded, streaking past red Mars and barreling past Luna towards the small blue world. Finally, high above Earth, Corona Shield fell. Grievously wounded and exhausted, the alien fell into the world's gravity and entered the atmosphere.

The white light blazed across the skies of several states before crashing in the forests outside Paragon City. There it was found by Dr. Chul Slate, a scientist with the Crey Corporation, and his teenage daughter, Yung-li. Barely clinging to life, Corona Shield did not even have the strength to merge with another sentient. Recovering the stricken alien, the Slates used Chul's access to Crey technology and his projects to construct a sort of life support to house and, hopefully, eventually heal it. It did that, but further attempts at regenerating the creature failed. Corona Shield was alive, and would continue to be so, but was crippled and broken. Frustrated, Dr. Slate lost interest in the matter.

Late one night, the young girl spoke to the alien in the box. He begged for freedom, for a chance to continue his duty in some form. This conversation was when Yung-li hit upon a plan. Her father had abandoned a prototype android frame as too power hungry to be practical, it's AI too unstable. A gifted mechanic and engineer in her own right, she secreted away the tarp-covered frame to her workshop and set to work. A Kheldian is a being of pure energy, capable of producing power orders of magnitude beyond even the most advanced microfusion generators. Without even straining Corona Shield she could have more than enough power for the android. Heavily modifying the frame to accept the alien, she placed Corona Shield's module inside, flicked one last switch, and dived behind her hand-welded blast shield. The workshop filled with blinding light.

The robot looked around, confused but aware. Yung-li had assumed that the android's AI was dead and that Corona Shield would somehow control the machine himself. Instead the sudden flood of Kheldian energy through the quantum blue box supercharged the artificial intelligence into something else. A "synthetic intelligence" might be a better word, though both Yung-li, Corona Shield, and the new entity were at a loss to explain exactly what the new creature is. But it was in control of the frame, using Corona Shield as a power source. A long conversation between the very excited small girl and towering giant robot later reached a partnership. They would honor the Kheldian's request and work together to protect justice, freedom, apple pie, and so on.

In June 2009, Yung-li was done with her upgrades. The bare android frame had been equipped with heavy armor plating, field projectors and blasters, transforming it from a basic prosthesis to robot powerhouse. The android, meanwhile, had taken to watching television, cracking jokes, and wearing pants among it's eccentricities. With the final weld complete, it fired up it's thrusters and took off, taking the title of Andromeda Knight... and accidentally putting a hole in the workshop roof.

Affiliations

The Andromeda Knight is partnered with Yung-li Slate, his mechanic. He is a member of the Gods of the Golden Age. Corona Shield is a member of the Peacebringer army but considered disabled in the line of duty. The Andromeda Knight is considered a member of the Vanguard in the fight against the Rikti.

Powers

The Andromeda Knight robot is incredibly strong, capable of lifting at least 30 tons, and quite possibly more. His future strength may be even higher as Yung-li continues her upgrades.

The Andromeda Knight combines thundering technological power with the strange alien energies of his living Kheldian core. While the mechanical strength of the robot is extremely strong and durable, it is the presence of Corona Shield as a power source that allows the Knight his range of abilities and functionality. His primary offensive armament are the energy projectors housed inside the vambraces behind his fists. These projectors allow the Knight to charge his melee strikes with destructive short range energy fields of Kheldian energy. The Kheldian energies can also be used defensively, charging the Andromeda Knight's powerful armor plating with durable energy fields. Most curiously, the flow of alien power can allow the robot to continue to function even after sustaining massive damage. While it cannot repair damage, it will "jump" and continue to move along it's directed path even without the presence of wiring or energy shunts.

In addition to his Kheldian projectors and charged armor, the Andromeda Knight is capable of high speed atmospheric and space flight. Being a mechanical entity he can survive in environments that would kill an unprotected human, including the hard vacuum of space and heat of reentry. Neither he nor his mechanic are certain of his top flight speed, but he is capable of achieving escape velocity and operate swiftly on orbital distances. Given that the Kheldians are an extra-galactic species able to cross the incomprehensibly vast void of space higher speeds are not out of the question.

As the Andromeda Knight was designed as an alien life support system first and weapons platform second most of his sensor systems are not substantially better than that of a human soldier with military grade binoculars and night vision goggles. Yung-li continues to work on upgrading his sensor suite and has installed a radar system that sometimes works. It tends to be more useful when outside the interference of the city. His integrated communications systems are equally limited, consisting mainly of talking, or at maximum, yelling loudly (or use his commlink like everyone else! - Yung-li). He does have a GPS navigation system however, heavily modified from an off-the-shelf commercial model by Yung-li.

Being a robot he does not eat, breath, or do other organic things. He in fact has no mouth, lungs, or brain. (this line has been obliterated by a very heavy handed eraser then rewritten in ink by a more delicate touch)

Limitations

The power systems of the Knight's living core can be disrupted by certain energies, in particular those fired by the Quantum Array Guns deployed by the Council and Nictus in their war against the Kheldians. While Corona Shield is well shielded inside the armored frame of the Knight, these blasts can inflict significant damage to the flow of energy and potentially cripple the robot's ability to fight.

A more basic weakness is the fact that the Andromeda Knight is a technological entity. Though highly durable, he lacks the basic ability of all organics to heal. Lacking any form of regeneration or self-repair, any damage sustained in battle or even wear-and-tear must be repaired manually. His (brilliant! - Yung-li) mechanic is kept very busy.

A side effect of his enormous size is that the Andromeda Knight has difficulty performing certain tasks. Having giant metal hands makes using things like pencils and keyboards and fine objects difficult. He also has terrible handwriting, according to Yung-li.

Yung-li Slate

Yung-li Slate is the teenage mechanic and partner of the Andromeda Knight and considered part of the Gods of the Golden Age support team.

Biography

This is usually the part where people say the heroine was a normal, average every day kid until something big happened. But the reality is that Yung-li Slate is not exactly normal. She's still human, the granddaughter of an American soldier and Korean nurse, but her high intelligence and gift for technology have fed her natural shyness. She's that kid who took apart the classroom computer in second grade to see how it worked. She'd have put it back together, too, except for bad timing.

Her second grade classroom, you see, had the misfortune of being in Baumton in 2002. Her mother and father also had the misfortune of buying a home there.

After the Rikti War she and her father resettled in Brickstown. Taking a position as a scientist with the Crey Corporation, Dr. Chul Slate lost himself in his work, if just to avoid his grief, and left Yung-li in many ways to her own devices. For her part, she began to seriously tinker and build, procuring a hidden workshop somewhere in the labyrinthine red structures and abandoned warehouses of Brickstown and scrambling through junkyards for interesting items to tinker with. This continued for the next several years.

At the suggestion of a family friend, Chul attempted to repair the distant relationship with his daughter via a camping trip outside the city. A misguided attempt, given that neither had any real aptitude for the wilderness, and was turning into an awkward family disaster when the white light tore through the night sky and crashed into the forest. For a little while, they forgot their mutual awkwardness and focused on this new curiosity. What they found at the crash site was the wounded Kheldian Corona Shield, barely clinging to life. The rest is history (and told in the History of the Andromeda Knight).

Today, 14-year old Yung-li Slate is the mechanic, partner, and friend of the titanic Andromeda Knight. She couldn't be more excited or proud.

Affiliations

Yung-li Slate is the mechanic and partner of the Andromeda Knight. While not a hero herself is considered part of the support team for the Gods of the Golden Age. As such, she has access to anywhere he does.

Powers

Yung-li is an extremely intelligent but otherwise normal fourteen year old girl. While she has a surprising amount of rangy muscle on her lean frame, she is no stronger than any other teenager that spends a lot of time working with power tools. She might be able to crack your skull with a wrench if you make her mad enough.

Abilities

Yung-li is a highly gifted mechanic with a powerful, almost intuitive grasp for mechanics and technology.

((Out of Character Knowledge Follows. You DON'T know it. Godmodders will be shot. Out of a cannon.))

The Truth

The truth is that Yung-li Slate, the mechanic, is the Andromeda Knight, the giant robot. While she poses as his mechanic, she is in reality the robot's pilot and provider of the machine's personality. The voice everyone hears is actually that of Yung-li playing the Knight persona through a voice modifier. She sits inside the mammoth armor behind a wall of shielded plating and Kheldian energy fields, Corona Shield's life support directly below her.

The truth of the Andromeda Knight is not dissimilar from the story told above. Yung-li Slate did indeed place the Kheldian Corona Shield inside the prototype frame. The point of divergence between reality and Yung-li's fiction is that the AI never came to life. The frame indeed flashed with blinding alien energies, but there was no new controlling essence or being. There was power but no will behind it. Corona Shield is far too weak to even speak most days, let alone muster the concentration necessary to control a technological prosthesis. Puzzling over this, the young mechanic realized the most obvious solution. The basic frame was massive, while she was quite small.

So she constructed a cockpit. Fortunately, Yung-li doesn't suffer from claustrophobia or fear of the dark or electricity, as it is cramped, dark, and confined. It is the cockpit and controls that are her proudest achievement. The components required her swiping everything she figured her father wouldn't miss from his lab, scouring every junkyard in Paragon City and cannibalizing at least one wrecked Vanguard tank, and heavily modifying off-the-shelf industrial components. After months of work, she had rigged up a control system. She closed her eyes, bit her lip, and hesitantly flicked a switch. Her new Andromeda Knight armor thundered to life.

It worked!

And then it put it a hole in the roof of her workshop. But still!

OOC Notes

You don't know about Yung-li being there. It's not something you'll just "figure out." If Superman can convince the world that he and Clark Kent are different people, then Yung-li Slate can convince the world that she is a small Asian girl and not a giant robot.

I originally rolled Andromeda Knight as a humanform Peacebringer, but found it didn't really fit my concept and so rerolled him as an Invulnerability/Energy Melee Tanker on January 30th, 2010.
