Personality
Like, hey! *Giggle.*
For all that's happened in her life, Vera is a very happy teenage girl. She's not a very good student, nor is she the smartest girl ever. But she's very happy and she loves to meet new people. She's almost always smiling and never afraid to say what's on her mind at times.
Character History
Early Life
When Vera was a child, she was a very normal girl. She had a lot of friends and was quite popular. Her parents loved her dearly and she grew up to be a very good teenage daughter. For the most part her early child hood was very uneventful. There was never any reason to suspect that she would turn out to be a hero. She did however have a fascination with comic book heroes and growing up in King's Row, she always admired heroes as well. She would watch the news in wonder as these heroes from other worlds or their own battled evil every day to keep them safe. Little did she know.
Birth of the Reluctant Hero
One morning after staying up all night to finish her project, Vera found herself waking up to her curtain's being on fire. She didn't understand what was going on. Her parents came to her rescue, but her school project was ruined in the fire. Her parents sent her to school, telling her to tell the teacher what happened. Unfortunately for Vera, her teacher didn't believe one of the "worst students she'd ever had" and sent her out. The fortunate part of this was she'd just happened to run into a city representative on her way out of class. His name was Mr. Winkler, and he had explanations for Vera as to what was going on with her and the mysterious fire.
Explaining this to her parents however came with a price. As Mr. Winkler explained to her parents more and more, the angrier they became. Her father was the one to finally explode. They wouldn't have a daughter that was a freak like those that ran around the city. They became afraid of their own daughter and it was her own father that threw her out of their home. Mr. Winkler then took her to the city hall's hero registration office. There she was given the name of Ardent Phoenix and a costume to match. She was taken through the whole process before being put with a foster family who also felt uneasy about her powers.
Voices
Phoenix fought crime alone while trying to keep herself in school. Her new found family spoke to her every once in a while but never kept in her life that often. She felt detached from them. She would go to Pocket D from time to time to talk to the other people there. Other heroes like her that could perhaps share in her pain. It was there that she met villains as well. Hearing from them about the Rouge Isles, she slowly began thinking to herself if Paragon City was right for her anymore. It was around this time she started wondering if perhaps defending the city where people like her parents live was right for her. It was at that moment that she got hit on the back of the head. Looking around however, she couldn't see anyone around her that could've done it. She went home that evening, having strange dreams about someone else she'd never seen before.
Later on in the week, she would be confronted by a large man about trying to pass as his dead friend Julie. Vera didn't understand what he meant and kept trying to explain that he'd never seen him before or heard of her before. After a while, he went away leaving Vera very alone. That is, until she started hearing voices in her head during fights. Voices that told her what to do, how to fight, how to keep her powers focused. She didn't understand what was going on. Also she would get bad headaches. With no real explanation, she associated with her powers and kept going on.
Friends and Family
Vera would find herself in Pocket D once more sitting alone before being confronted by another hero named American Sun. He would tell Vera of The All Star Teen Sentinels and about their application process. Vera decided that she was done with being alone and signed up almost immediately. After a while she finally got word from the heroine Ahem and interviewed. Inducted into the ASTS, she was finally among other heroes like her. She could finally relate to people around her and talk to others. She soon moved out of the house she stayed in and into the ASTS base where she would no longer feel alienated and instead would be one of the group. She finally felt she found a home away from home and takes joy in meeting new people everyday.
Current Events
After a Halloween party in the base of the Young God's of the Golden Age base, the heroine known as Lion of England got into her head and discovered the source of the voices. A recently deceased heroine by the name of The Sensational Flame got into her head after mysterious circumstances. Vera has no idea who is in her head, and assumes it's all because of her powers and it's some kind of voice of herself trying to motivate her. As it stands, no one else knows that she has someone in her head, except for Lion of England.
Powers
Vera controls fire in all different forms. She can also take her own fire and use it to the advantage of her teammates. By burning the air around her friends, they can move faster and the fire can help protect them against immobilizing attacks as well as attacks that would other wise hold or disorient them. With this application she can both support and suppress the enemy. As long as she doesn't miss and burn something else that is.
If Vera goes down in battle, she rises back up a much different person. Julie, the other heroine in her head, takes over to protect her using all of her skill. This essentially increases her fighting strength and potential two fold. She is also no longer Vera until she passes out from the over use of power. Once she's back up she doesn't remember anything and only remembers being knocked out.
