Bio
Prior to the Rikti war, John Mason was a naive, idealistic young man from Pittsburgh with dreams of saving lives and serving his country. While the naivety vanished quickly on the battleground, the idealism lived on as he and his unit of Rangers fought against the alien invaders to protect their home.
No, it was never an enemy that stole that from him, but his own. After the first war he joined a special forces team running assaults against lingering Rikti strongholds. During this time he came to the attention of a special research operation looking to give soldiers an edge against the superior technology of the invaders through genetic alteration.
They told him it was a simple, painless procedure. They lied. What followed was weeks of the most horrific torture a man could endure. Yet endure he did, for the good of his country. Then, when it was almost over, he overheard something that changed everything. Mind control.
The land of the free? To be just a drone under their control would be worse than defeat. Worse than death. Breaking free of the facility, he barely managed to escape the mechanical guards patrolling the grounds. Near death he stumbled upon an Arachnos team that had been surveilling the Malta facility. They took him to the Rogue Isles and patched him up in exchange for everything he knew about what had gone on inside.
When they were done they simply let him go, but what could he do now. He was a fugitive in his homeland, with no one he could turn to. So he turned to the Isles, and what he knew, combat.
Soon John was running a team of mercenaries and performing work not just in the Rogue Isles, but also Europe, Africa, and latin America. His no-nonsense approach and businesslike attitude to the work at hand garnered him plenty of jobs. Men with combat training from all over came to work with him, and soon his operation had grown.
At present he employs roughly 35 men and women, all hardened combat veterans. They take the work they want, and they get paid well. Mason's facility in St. Martial is one of the best defended locations in the Isles, and while he has many enemies, his 'friends' are numerous as well as very powerful. Arachnos, Johnny Sonata, and many other powerful forces in the Rogue Isles and abroad count Mason and his men among their allies and do not look kindly upon people messing with their good thing.
