Ranulf Adalbrecht is a living artifact. In his time, he was the commander of the Black Dragon Armies, an army of mercenaries who were known for their blackened steel throughout the Holy Roman Empire and all Europe. Ranulf was a giant amongst men and known as "The Black Bastion", an immovable towering warlord clad in impenetrable black steel armor and of eerie snow white skin, whose black-bladed zweihander, the Blitzkreig, was legendary for being unwieldly to the mortal man, its immense size capable of cutting the strongest armor and felling the most powerful of foes. His second-in-command, a knight called "Bloodletter" after his red broadsword, used Ranulf's supernatural appearance against him, convincing the Church that Ranulf was a witch. They ran him from Europe, Ranulf retreating on his ship, The Nereid's Cadence. He landed in modern-day Canada, where he remained frozen in a tomb of ice until two years ago, when he thawed and made his way south to Paragon. He has learned to speak modern English and continues to discover new modern marvels.

Personality
Before he was frozen, he was a loud and powerful commander. His voice was deep and booming, and the shine of his black armor and the thud and clank of his heavy boots earning him fear and respect. He was a giant and was a ruthless warlord. He commanded his Black Dragon Armies with an iron fist and a voice like thunder. Traitors to the army were executed by quartering and refused a proper burial. To fight against Ranulf in his prime was to fight death itself.
In modern times, Ranulf is a gentle giant. He is quiet and calm, choosing to observe and study his new environment. The titanic buildings and the taller people, the common superpowers, the supervillains... It's all new to Ranulf and he knows he is out of his element. So he remains a recluse of sorts, choosing to spend his time in the woods of Croatoa or simply toiling day and night over fighting crime and beating villains into submission and retreat. His voice is quiet and soothing and his face usually a warm expression, despite the frost that drifts from his eyes.
Powers
Ranulf possesses only one true "super power", and that is his ability to control the temperature and moisture directly around him, aka his ice armor. He is capable of freezing the moisture in the air around and on him to freeze his armor, adding extra strength to it. He can also slow enemies around him by dropping the temperature near to the point of freezing them, even causing icicles to form and cut at them.
Aside from his ice powers, he possesses superhuman strength that comes from his immense size and constant training. This grants him the ability to wield titanic weaponry. He prefers zweihanders, two-handed swords.
Equipment
In his days as the commander of the Black Dragon Armies, the sword he used was called "Blitzkrieg". This titanic blade was black, with the cutting edges left as silver. The hilt was silver, with black leather wrapping around the handle. The pommel had a silver ram skull decoration. He has long-since lost his blade and now uses a simpler sword, a steel zweihander with a frozen blade.
His armor was what earned him the title of "Black Bastion". It was a heavy full-plate armor that was known to be layered with chainmail, plate, and leather over linen. This shielded him well from arrows and blades and cushioned him from the blows of maces. His gauntlets and boots were heavy plate as well. These provided weight and momentum to his movement, allowing him to take heavier steps and harder swings. This bolstering of his movements put more force and power behind the swings of Blitzkrieg. His pauldrons were thick plate, adorned with spikes. His girdle plates were wide and heavy, with reinforced black steel. These pauldrons rose up to protect his neck from beheading blows, and worked with his girdle plates to protect his limbs from dismembering blows. His cloak was a black, flowing drape that gave him the appearance of a dark king, the high collar highlighting his pale-skinned and silver-haired head. This appearance struck fear into his foes, showing them that they were against an unstoppable juggernaut of destruction and conquest.
Last of all was his helmet, the legendary Helm of the Black Dragon. This was a symbol of authority amongst his men, the horns of the helmet symbolic of the Black Dragon Fortress, an impenetrable keep of metal and smoke-blackened stone nestled in a mountain range. The keeps defenses were such that any army laying siege to it would be crushed by the castle alone, to say nothing of the forces inside. These strengths were seen by the soldiers who gazed upon their general donning this helmet, showing that the spirit of the Black Dragon was guiding them on the battlefield, bolstering their confidence and morale.
