Personality

The Blue Fool is more a man of action than words. He can be talkative, if he deems it necessary. However, when it is time to fight crime; he rarely makes small talk. Other than that, he is known to be pleasant and polite.

Prior to his arrival in Paragon City, he was sheltered from real world suffering. The concept of injustice is still rather new to him. He tends to get overly emotional when confronted with truthfully evil people.

Character History

Born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, Jeffery Hayes was raised by his father, a Baptist minister; and his mother, a school teacher. Jeff's life circled around trying to please and impress his parents, but it seemed as though it was impossible. At the age of 12, Jeff's powers manifested. He had developed the ability to create fields of energy, through the acceleration of electrons. He could use these fields to fire blasts of pure force, fly, and create semi-solid force fields. Jeff was overjoyed, and practiced every day until he had was proficient in their use. However, his parents were not amused, he was quickly admonished to keep this a total secret. "There ain't no reason to be goin' and showin' off with this flashy stuff that you do, son." His father told him.

Jeff's heart was broken, and on a whim ran away from home. Outside of his hometown there was a circus packing up to move along, Jeff asked the owner if he could come work for him. The owner reluctantly agreed. The first two years of his employment with the "Deters Family Circus" were not entirely pleasent, it was mostly janitorial work. At the age of 14, Jeff got his big break. He debuted one night as the clown "The Blue Fool", and he was quickly a crowd favorite. This line of work fulfilled Jeff more than anything that he could imagine. His ability to fly was manipulated to give off the impression that he was a good acrobat. He would appear in front of the audience, and juggle balls of energy. He would wrap himself in a force field while the other clowns would throw manners of objects at him. Jeff's life was good, the most important part of it was that for a few hours he could allow people to forget their troubles. In the audience, he found the acceptance that he had never been given at home. However, he was sheltering himself from the outside world.

Reality came crashing to him, however, in early 2008. Jeff, now 24 years old, was for the first time in 12 years facing an uncertain future. The circus was going under, and people were going to lose their jobs. Jeff volunteered to be the first to go, even though if it were up to the boss he would be the last. To Jeff, it was the right thing to do; he was the only person without a family. "The Blue Fool" did his final performance in Paragon City, Rhode Island. He left the circus with his only posessions; one pair of ragged civilian clothes, the tights that he wore under his clown suit, and a Zanni mask which he received for his 17th birthday. Stepping into the real world for the first time made Jeff realize what a fool he had been for all of these years. He focused on making people happy in the circus, while on the outside people were suffering. It seemed as though on every corner that he turned to in this city, there was a crime being committed. The idea that there were people that could do this to other people was totally foreign to him. He did learn quite a few things about this new place, most importantly about the heroes. He wandered the streets for 4 hours before reaching his limit. In Atlas Park, there was a Hellion trying to steal the purse of a young lady. Looking around and seeing that there were no heroes or police officers in sight, Jeff donned his mask and created a force field around the victim. The purse dropped from the Hellion's hands, as he searched for the culprit. Before his eyes could focus on Jeff, a burst of energy pushed him into a tree and knocked him out cold.

At that point Jeff knew that his work was not finished. In the city where the Blue Fool had died, he was born anew. He now steps out on a personal quest for justice, to correct those that do wrong, and hopefully bring a smile to people's faces.
