PERSONAL HISTORY / ORIGIN OF POWERS

Vance Addams worked as a researcher in multi-spacial anomalies and unified dimensional quantum theory for The Möbius Foundation, a research and development company that had close ties to Portal Corp and other large development firms in the field of multiversal experimentation.

During the early experiments with portal technology Addams spent his time attempting to quantify and map rift anomalies that were noted when the newly created portals were opened. Though other researchers referred to this interference in the dimensional apertures as "static", and dismissed it in favor of results in opening doorways to new worlds, to Addams it always seemed like there was something more. He observed the way the "static" ebbed and flowed like the tide. The way it breathed like a living being. He began to map his observations, and compile his findings until he had enough data to substantiate his theories. He had found a pattern.

Addams almost missed it at first, but upon triple checking his research, the pattern was clear. There was some connecting cohesion, some common thread that spun out into the multiverse in all directions and no direction at once, a cosmic force anchored to everything and nothing at the same time. From that point on Addams devoted his time to understanding the nature of his discovery.

Staying in the lab after hours, he began using the technology to generate stable portals for his studies. He also began focusing the frequencies of the dimensional variances to match those of the "static", instead of onto the normally set of multi-spacial coordinates. Addams was certain that if he managed to successfully lock the portal onto the frequency of the repeating anomaly that he had observed, instead of a set destination, that he would be able to determine the cause the disturbance and what it exactly meant.

Continuing to close in on the pattern, Addams often worked late into the night trying to match the specific pattern that he had observed, but something was eluding him. Weary and to the brink of exhaustion after many nights of fruitless labor, the researcher then made a mistake that would change his life forever. While adjusting the settings in an attempt to once again capture the elusive pattern he had sought, Addams let his hand wander too close to the resonate field electromagnetic quantum oscillator, and as the data field on the portal controls immediately locked Addams understood in that second what he had been missing, bio-electric energy. The patterns he had been trying to match in the "Static" were all there in his own bodies electrical current. Addams almost had time to contemplate the implications before the portal flared to life opening a fixed quantum singularity for just long enough to pull him inside.
