Heroes and villains of Science origin gain their powers because of a device, object or accident that has or had something to do with scientific research, should the a case be zapped by a radiation ray on a test run, artificially created for a super solider race, or anything else within these boundaries.
Keep in mind that, while the studies of genetics are scientific in nature, beings whose genetics dictate what powers they will have should be classified under the Mutant origin, and need no outside stimuli (i.e. exposure to radiation, reaction to chemical spills, scientific experiments, etc.) for their powers to initially manifest, though this in itself could be debated.
