Event Horizon Man's In-Game Bio
"Professor Dale Lambert, an astrophysicist motivated by money over the pursuit of science, worked for the Canadian military. His task: to create an artificial wormhole that would allow troops to go from one locale to another in a flash. When Lambert learned his invention would be used to create micro-black holes for killing enemy troops by tearing them apart, he attempted to go to the police to break the story. However, he was captured by an unscrupulous major and a renegaade contingent of troops under his command. He was thrown into a micro-black hole in the hope of silencing him. Rather than be destroyed by the singularity, Lambert was reconstituted at the sub-atomic level and thus endowed with amazing super-powers: the ability to absortb any energy wavelength and discharge back as X-ray beams, proton blasts, and neutrino fields. He used his new abilities to turn the tables on the major and learned an important lesson about being a better person, and a hero named Event Horizon Man!"
Event Horizon Man: A Veteran Hero
(the following history comes mostly from my days on Champion Server but it makes for a good RP history, nonetheless....)
Event Horizon Man was not the most powerful hero in Paragon City. Nor was he the most famous or well known. And, while he was a member of many superhero groups like the Justice F0rce and StrykeForce, he preferred to fight the forces of evil alone, and on his own terms. Nevertheless, since that fateful day on June 9th, 2007, when Project: Midnight Sun was used on him, Event Horizon Man has earned many victories and accolades in his battles against villiany.
The passage of time and the hundreds of battles won over the years has taken it's toll, however. Now Event, as he is known by other heroes and the people of Paragon City who adore him, has decided to scale down his efforts and let the next generation of heroes take the charge. He felt the sudden influx of newly registered superheroes coming to the fore in light of the destruction of Galaxy City was the perfect time for him to take on a new role.
Event now paces himself with lower-profile assignments, preferring to fight crime on a more local scale instead of engaging supervillians. He has also been recruited by the FBSA to train and mentor the new arrivals, using his impressive career and experience as a guide of how to survive in this City of Heroes.....
Event Horizon Man, As Described By His Player...
Event Horizon Man is based on an idea for a comicbook character I wanted to draw and write about when I was in my teens, but lost interest in. That character's name was not Event Horizon Man but Blackhole, but the origin was pretty much the same: a guy who built something for the wrong reason and it came back to bite him later.
I still had a sketch from those days in a filing cabinet for many, many years. When I joined City of Heroes in June 2007, I remembered that sketch and used it as a template to create Event Horizon Man (the name Blackhole was taken) on Champion Server. If you compare the sketch with his original costume in June 2007, there's really not that much difference between what I came up with over 20 years ago and the City Of Heroes version:
Event is the personification of why we must never try to do things just because we know we can do them. At least, not without thinking things through first.
Event was my first character of City of Heroes, but I restarted him a few times just to try to get into him. He originally started off on Champion server but moved to Virtue server when Freedom went live. He was not my first level 50, but he will always be my favorite!
