Short on cash, Brodie Peterson (also known as the superhero Acid) formed a team of professional superheroes-for-hire. Originally intended to be a group of for-hire troubleshooters, the newly recruited roster of heroes deserted Brodie mid-mission when they realized their retainers wouldn’t clear for at least six months. Captured by the nefarious Doctor Devastation and his Mag-Men, Brodie sent out a shortwave radio message in an attempt to contact the Freedom Phalanx. The message never reached them however, but was inadvertently intercepted by several other heroes...
