Child of Stone

From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Jump to: navigation, search

Created initially as a normal character just to try out the villain side, and then dragged kicking and screaming into the world of role play by Lucy Xiao. He's not terribly too happy about it.

Additionally, the RPer apologizes in advance for all the making fun of her own character she does in this bio. Seriously.

[Personality]

Once a scared little child prone to being emo all of the time, Ray Xiao recently went through a (much needed) change. This was brought on by his mother, well, actually telling him he was the cause of all her problems (although not in so many words), and then being told by the ghost possessing Yun that it actually was his fault. Being told that was most likely supposed to break Ray, and in a sense it did. He decided he could no longer be the child who ran away from everything, and so he got angry instead.

Now Ray is actually a pretty happy, open kid. He smiles a lot more and is willing to talk to people he's never even met before. He's still pretty quiet, but no longer because he's scared, and he -will- speak up if he thinks he has something to say.

Unfortunately his newfound self confidence doesn't mean he understands things now. He's still pretty easily confused.

[Background]

The Start

When Ray came to live with Lucy he was already 9. Not much is known about his life prior to Lucy taking him under his wing, at least not by anyone other than Ray himself. And maybe Max; who knows how much he saw when he looked into Ray's mind. But Ray does seem willing to talk about it, now. He's just waiting until there aren't ten million people trying to kill Lucy and the rest of his family. They don't need any more problems right now.

Back on topic, how Ray was found by Lucy was a bit of a life saver, literally. He was being attacked by Arachnos spiders, and would probably have been dead within minutes had Lucy not kicked the crap out of them. Or killed them. It doesn't really matter, anymore. Regardless, she saved him from the Arachnos, for which he was grateful, and then (to add icing onto the cake) adopted him and him a name. Perhaps you have to be Ray to understand the significance of this, but it made him pretty loyal to Lucy.

The First Breakdown

In fact he's grown more than a little attached to her, despite her having been somewhat mean to him at points. When Lucy started over storing her energy because of a man named Masume and almost died as a result, Ray became really worried. When it happened again and she disappeared for a day (after hurting Graff), Ray spent the next half day searching the isles for her on his own, until he passed out from exhaustion, hunger, and pain (it is the isles, after all). He was eventually found by one of the strange white-haired women living in the old church he and Lucy had lived in for a while, and she took him to Yun to be healed.

Despite his exhaustion and pain gone, Ray wasn't very responsive to anyone or anything at all. He stared off blankly into space, lost somewhere in his own head. He'd got it into that head that Lucy must be dead (she'd been near death before he even started looking), and it was only when she was found and they managed to get her back to a 'normal' functioning state that he seemed to return to sanity. And started crying really heavily. His shirt had to go into the wash on the heavy cycle. Ew, snot.

Afterward, Lucy and Graff became engaged, and Ray managed to get over Lucy almost dying. Well, almost. As much as an emo kid can get over something like that, anyway.

The Second Breakdown

Not long after, Ray (almost) had another mental breakdown. This time because he'd been shown an execution by someone Lucy had left him in the care of. Yeah, not the best choice for a babysitter, Lucy. Seriously. It took some talking by Max to bring the boy back to his normal state. Yay Max! And then later that same night, some strange woman decided to mess with Max, or at least his head. This was upsetting to Ray (and definitely to Max), and now there are two people Ray hates unconditionally. Since that day Ray's been having nightmares almost every night.

School's in!

Ray spent about a week in a public school in Steel Canyon, until it came to Max's attention that Ray's teacher was going to tell Lucy to put him back a few years and had told Ray that he needs to 'stop showing off in Math', the only subject Ray was any good at. The next day Max came to his school and had it out with Ray's teacher (in other words the teacher spent a lot of time yelling and Max calmly stared her down). She sent Ray home for the day, and the next Lucy and Max pulled Ray out of school. Max then started homeschooling him.

The Third Breakdown

Not long after it was mental breakdown time yet again. Go emo kid, go go! This time his problems were brought around by Lucy, who did the normal motherly thing of scolding Ray. Well, okay, there was a bit more to it than that, in that Ray didn't think he'd done anything wrong (he'd been trying to get in the way of Lucy flirting with another guy while Graff was MIA; kid just wanted to keep his family together). He had, but that's besides the point. He didn't think he had.

It made the child fall into himself, thinking that he couldn't trust anyone and that they would turn him over to his real family soon enough. It took Max getting inside of Ray's head and forcing him back to reality to get him back to anything resembling normal. It was still a few days before he fully recovered.

Max had also found Ray another teacher, which made Ray think Max didn't want him around. After talking to Graff (who promised Ray he wouldn't say anything to Max), Max talked to Ray about it. Thing were... settled, but Ray was obviously unhappy with Graff. Which lead into...

Lucy's Breakdown?

Hey, Ray's not the only person who can have breakdowns, you know! Ahem. Anyway, the breakdown was actually Ray's fault, because Lucy's energy is empathetic and she'd been spending more time around Ray than anyone. After fighting with Graff over Ray, and Lucy telling Graff to choose between the two of them, Graff left. This caused Lucy to go crazy, and she ended up going on a rampage, pulling Yun (or more accurately the ghost possessing him) into it with her.

Ray only found this out after the fact, because he had run away by that point. A comment by Lucy had made him realize what he'd already been thinking was true (that it was his fault). Max came to find Ray in the isles (at a great personal risk), and they had a pretty long talk.

The Epiphany!

When Ray had finally calmed down some, Max and Ray were visited by Obayifo, who had taken over Yun's body and had been rather obviously killing people. He only confirmed that it really was Ray's fault, and told Ray about how his energy had been poisoning Lucy, leading to her breakdown. This caused Ray to decide that enough was enough, and that he had to stop running away, if not for his own sake then for Lucy's. After delivering a not-so-swift beatdown on Obayifo, Yun returned to his normal self, and the three set off to find Lucy, who had ended up in the hospital.

Apparently Lucy had been having a fight of her own, and in the end she'd returned to sanity. Having begged Pandora to kill her, the person she'd been fighting chose another route and erased Lucy's memories. Ray had a little trouble dealing with Happy-Go-Lucky Lucy. He wasn't sure at all how to relate to her, and had no idea how she had ever changed from that into Jaded Lucy. But the guy who had erased her memories soon returned them, much to Ray's relief.

Doubles Galore!

Not long after Lucy returned to normal, Graff started getting into trouble. Not only did his crazy ex show up again, but there appeared to be people out for his life. And the Templars had doubles of themselves, from other worlds and the future, coming out of the woodwork. It was all getting a little much. When Max's got switched with her evil double, and then returned, she was extremely angry at Max for... reasons Ray doesn't really understand. Either way, Ray managed to get Max to stay with them for a night, and was angry when he found out Max left at sunrise.

He's since only spoken to Max twice, mostly because Lucy told him that he was being selfish, not worried, and Ray took that to mean worrying = selfish = being a burden. So he cooped himself up in his room, trying not to worry. Lucy has since set him straight on that, but she also made him promise never to talk to any of the Templars again, a promise he will (unfortunately for him) keep.

[Residence]

The family's current residence was either built on behalf of, or taken over by, Lucy. Ray isn't sure which, and doesn't really care. Either way, he has his own room and has a TV and video game system in it, so he's pretty satisfied.

[Affiliation]

Family

Lucy Xiao: Lucy is Ray's mother, and he trusts her completely. Any distrust he had before has disappeared since he found self confidence. He's even taken to calling her Mom instead of Lucy. He loves her, and will listen to just about anything she says. He's even promised her not to talk to his best friend ever again.

Graffiti Samurai: To be completely honest, Ray thinks that Graff is completely off his rocker, and is probably right. Ray trusts Graff completely as well, although Lucy's word still trumps Graff's.

Sister Pandora: Lucy's best friend and Ray's godmother, of sorts. Ray and Pandora have bonded over Mario Kart, and she is probably his closest friend. But only because you can't really consider your parents your friends.

Black Start: Lucy's cousin and Ray's... what, second cousin? He's not sure, and has no idea how that works anyway. Since Ray's un-emo-ification, he's been paying more attention to Yun, and does trust him. But still, hamburgers? There's just something about Yun that still makes it hard for Ray to take him seriously.

Aglow: Little Ling is Ray's little sister, adopted from China. To be honest, Ray doesn't really like her. But that might just be because he doesn't know how to deal with her, and he thinks she's too hyper and crazy and... well, childish, actually. That about sums it up.

Others

Smoking Mirrors: Once Ray's best friend, now just relegated to 'other' status because Ray promised Lucy he wouldn't talk to any of the Templars ever again, including Max. It hurts the kid, it really does, but Lucy's happiness and wants are above everything else in the world, including Max. So now simply someone Ray does his best to not think about. He won't even go to the D anymore for fear of bumping into Max or any of the other Templars. Not that he was going anyway, because he didn't want to be a burden by worrying too much, but that's another story.

Bow-Slinger: Dex was Ray's uncle, as decided by Lucy. 'Was', being the key word there. Probably 'was', anyway. He's the leader of the Teen Templars, and since Ray promised not to talk to them anymore, it doesn't really matter anymore.

Shocking Spectral: Heather has been asked to babysit Ray on more than one occasion, and although he didn't like her at first (she asked WAY too many questions about his past), he's now more or less indifferent to her. She lives in the same house as them, however, as does her best friend.

Freezeorburn: Heather's best friend, Anthony has also been asked to babysit Ray on occasion. Ray isn't at all sure how to respond to her, she seems to be completely and utterly crazy.

Glacial Squall: Ray's had quite a few encounters with this person, but he hasn't seen him lately. This isn't really unfortunate, in Ray's opinion, because he didn't much like him anyway. Not that he will EVER tell Lucy this.

Disliked

Zaraki Yasuda: Although he has only ever met Zaraki once, Ray immediately didn't like the man. It probably didn't help that Lucy was obviously trying to keep him safe from Zaraki. Ray's dislike for him has only been affirmed by the bad things he's heard everyone saying about him.

Rafael de la Larken: Ray really didn't have an opinion about Raf until he started messing around with Ray's head. Or his demon did. Ray's really not sure. Either way, he really doesn't like Raf at all, now, and finds people he trusts to hide behind when Raf is near.

Starswarm: Unfortunately Ray doesn't much like Richard, after hearing that he almost killed Lucy with Kheldian energy. Besides, Rich is a Templar, and Ray isn't supposed to talk to him.

Hated

Masume Yasuda: There was a time that Ray didn't hate Masume, and in fact he's never met the man. However when Lucy almost died because of him Ray became filled with loathing for him and will protest heavily if Lucy ever decides to meet him again.

Masoch: Ray's honestly not even sure who this woman is, only that she seems to know Max and that she either told him something or showed him some images in his head that made him sick. This has made Ray hate her immensely for trying to mess with his friend. You just don't do that, okay? He probably won't attack her on sight, but he isn't going to be happy about ever seeing her around again, that's for sure. The fact that Ray isn't supposed to talk to Max anymore hasn't changes his hatred for her, however.

Nightmare Revival: For a while Ray wasn't sure how to deal with this person, and in fact liked him a little due to his incredible resemblance to Max. But after not only being shown an execution by him, but also learning that he attacked Max, Ray can't help but hate him. Even if he IS Max from another world.

[Pets]

Chase Styles: A puppy that Graff gave to Lucy. She named it Ein, which Ray doesn't understand but doesn't really care.

Max: Another puppy the family seems to have gained. Apparently someone just handed the puppy off to Graff, and when Ray asked about its name later that night, he and Lucy let Ray name it. Having just spent some time bonding with Max, Ray decided to name the puppy after him. Lucy actually didn't complain this time. When he asked Lucy if he needed to rename the dog since he was no longer allowed to talk to the Templars, she said no. He's not entirely sure if he's happy with this because it makes him think about human Max too much.

Boxer: The family cat, named by Pandora.

Unnamed Snake: This is the replacement snake that Lucy got for Ray after Om 'ran away'. Ray never named it, in part because he was sad Om was dead, and in part because he figured it was only a matter of time for this one, too.
