The Story of Cipher Leonardo
His real name and planet of origin is a mystery even to him. From what bits and pieces of his memory that remain, he was a space explorer of some kind. Crash landing on earth in the thirties, the traveler was almost immediately located by the United States government. Near death and having a physiology completely foreign to our earthly medicine it was touch and go at first, placed in stasis the creature known only as "subject zero" spent the next few decades in a tube in a deep underground lab somewhere in the deserts of the American southwest. A whole departmental branch was formed around the study of the alien and development of weapons technology from the bits and pieces let over from his huge crash vessel. This secret department was called "Project Cipher" and as the decades rolled on and more lifeforms found themselves "earthed" the department grew larger and harder to keep a secret. At its peak, Project Cipher had hundreds of lifeforms locked up, most were used as guinea pigs for the departments weapons development branch.. it was this violent disregard for life that eventually lead to the rouge government facilities downfall. For three decades subject zero, the original life form, had lived secluded from the day to day chaos of the facility.. his unusually long life and his unique abilities fascinated the scientists.. so for over thirty years zero was forced to watch the atrocities of human kind of hundreds of different species that passed through Project Cipher's doors. Eventually zero couldn't take anymore violence, anymore atrocity. He waited for the right moment, then let loose.. his telepathic abilities crackled through the air, the radiation that flows from his pores filling every room.. he ended it all.
After freeing his fellow captives, he destroyed the facility.. drained and near death from the extreme use of his abilities, he went into seclusion, wandering the earth alone. For the next forty years he dedicated his life to finding the good in the humanity that he'd seen such a dark side of for so many years. It wasn't until a little over ten years ago the traveler, zero, found his way to the city of heroes.. Paragon City.. that he discovered he could use his unique abilities for good. The years following the destruction of Project Cipher, zero suppressed his powers, so it took him some time to retrain himself to not just control his powers.. but use them. Special fabrics from the facility he'd totted with him for years, knowledge gathered from years of simply living on this planet helped him develop his first suit. But he needed a name, he'd lived so long without one it ended up being the most difficult task he'd faced since coming to Paragon. He decided on Cipher, the name of his captors for so many years and Leonardo, for da Vinci, a human who's exploits zero had found inspiring during his studies of human history. And the upside down white star, the "logo" of Project Cipher, ablaze across his new uniform. So, almost 80 years after he touched down on this planet, the nameless space traveler turned science lab test subject turned wandering knowledge seeker was now a hero, protecting the same people who had tormented him for so long.
OOC Stuff
I'm going for sort of a dark alien Batman sort of vibe with this character. Technically he's one of the oldest characters I have, I created him on Freedom when the game was originally released way back when.. Dr. Mankind was his name. I always struggled with a backstory for him due to accidentally making him a natural controller so I always had to go with "alien" but in the end I think this little story came out well. In game I keep it light, I explain that after you live that long you better have a sense of humor about it all or else, what's the point? I'll probably alter his backstory again before its all over, but until this this little blurb works well in getting my point across. Drop me a line in game @Bwam.
