History
Dr. Samuel J. Adrian
In February 2004, in the Bahnhofplatz outside of the train station in the Länggasse quarter of Bern, Switzerland, a scientist by the name of Samuel Adrian sat on a bench, nervously looking at his watch. Having been contacted rather out of the blue by an old acquaintance he had not thought he would take up the offer, and almost certainly wouldn't have had he not caught his wife in a rather delicate position with his colleague, Professor Stern. He had reasoned that work was work, and he need to get out of the country, it was only then, as he sat on that bench in the earliest hours of the morning, that the rumours about his would be benefactor resurfaced in his mind. He had met her only once, and that was very briefly, at a conference where he had been approached by her and complimented on his essay on AI theory in which he had posited that it could be possible to literally download a human brain into a computer, without all that unnecessary, and frankly galling, brain surgery. He had been shocked, and delighted, to be commended by such a prominent figure in robotics, after all Verger was renowned scientist, a woman of unparalleled genius in her field. But then there was the Limbourg debacle, and that incident in Gdańsk and the whole kidnapping affair in Arhus, her reputation was shot and Samuel wasn't entirely sure if she was guilty or innocent. He idly twisted his wedding ring on his finger as a man approached in a very thick duffel coat.
'Doctor Adrian?' the man spoke in a thick accent, 'I am Doctor Alexander Ehrlichmann, I believe we met last August, at Oxford?' Samuel looked up blankly, his thoughts elsewhere. Ehrlichmann repeated his name, increasingly worried that he had picked the wrong man, but it was four in the morning, and a very cold morning too.
Samuel shook his head to clear his mind and blinked at the man before him, 'Programmer?'
Ehrlichmann breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, Samuel repeated the movement in recognition. The two scientists paused in an awkward silence, both wary of what they were consigning themselves to. Ehrlichmann rubbed his hands together and coughed as his colleague continued to stare at his hands.
'There is a car...' Ehrlichmann started, trailing off as Samuel abruptly stood. The doctor removed his wedding ring and threw it as far as he could.
He turned to the other man and proffered his hand, 'Ah, sorry, my mind's been on other things, a car you say? Do you know where we're going?'
Dr. Alexander D. Ehrlichmann
In August 2005, in a bunker deep within an undisclosed Alp, Alexander worked late into the night, or possibly the mid-afternoon, it had been so long since he had last been to the surface, he had somewhat lost track of time. Doctor Verger had broken all the clocks in a fit of rage last November, even Doctor Adrian's precious wristwatch had been destroyed in that particular episode, as such Alexander could only discover the time when he was working at the computers. She had changed the clocks, on the computers. He knew she had, she called him paranoid, but she was evil. She wanted them to suffer. Alexander still had nightmares about Alicia. He had asked Doctor Adrian about it once, if he still thought about it, but he hadn't responded. But he did. Alexander knew.
He wished he had never come, never agreed. What choice did he have? His little boy had powers, weird powers, strange powers. Those heroes had been sniffing round, he knew it, they could hide it, deny it, but he knew it! They wanted to take him and mould him and make him into a hero, to get slaughtered! Slaughtered by villains, madmen, evil, evil people. People like Doctor Verger. But Verger said she would make Nils safe, so he had to come. He had to. But he didn't trust Verger, no, not any more. He wondered where his son was, if he was still alive, if he had been found, and killed, or if Verger had simply given him to them. He didn't know. But she did. She knew and she laughed behind his back, because she knew and he didn't.
Witch.
He had thought about sabotaging the project, but couldn't bring himself to. The project was important, yes, important for humanity, important for science. But why did she have to kill people? She was impatient, that's what it was, she couldn't wait to test it until they had perfected it, so she just did it when she was bored. She got angry when it failed, as it always did, but she enjoyed the power she had over them. He knew that too.
Maybe...maybe he could trick her. That's what he thought, he'd started his side project May last year and he was almost done. Little by little, he worked so she wouldn't notice him. A trick, he would still work on the project, that was too important, but he could stop all the killing if she thought they'd perfected it already. If she thought that then maybe she would let them go, and they could finish it without her!
Maybe...maybe...
Dr. Malorie M. Verger
In March 2006, in Maximilian's personal quarters, Malorie Verger sat next to her beloved creation and caressed its face. Two decades of hard work had finally come to fruition, of a sorts. The experiment hadn't been a complete success, but this was progress! That was the way that science worked, she was a patient woman, after all, she could wait a few more months for the experiment to be perfected. But she had done it! A human brain, a whole human brain, downloaded into a computer. Memories, experiences, loves, hatreds, beliefs, knowledge! Well, that was the goal. At least this one hadn't screamed for a few seconds before exploding, so it was an improvement. Evidently minor amputation was an excellent motivator, she would have to write that up. Oh, she couldn't wait to see the look on Petrokov's face when she arrived back at the institute. He'd be begging to be downloaded! Upgraded!
She stroked the featureless face and pressed it against her cheek, 'He was an old lover of mine, Maximilian, a voracious man, my one true love. I still have the ring he gave me, you know, and the finger I found it on. Such a funny story, I shall have to tell it to you sometime.' She smiled, Maximilian sat impassively. His memories appeared to be damaged in the download, but she had Adrian working on that fault. He'd figure out what was wrong, such a resourceful, young man, plus he knew the penalties for failure. Though when he fixed it, it still wouldn't help poor Maximilian, his memories were lost with his old body. She'd thrown the old model away, after all, the new one was so very shiny! Though he was largely unresponsive, but he was learning, adapting. She liked to imagine that his consciousness was locked away within that metal frame, screaming.
'Such a screamer, she was, his other woman,' she chuckled, 'Until the blade reached her vocal chords, naturally. But my specialty was always Robotics, after all, she just assumed I was the surgeon. Who was I to argue?'
Maximilian moved a hand up to Malorie's cheek and caressed it as she had done to him. His programming was adaptive, working with new input to increase his responses, he was simply mimicking what he saw
and felt and heard. But in Malorie's mind he was thankful, loving, devoted. Her ultimate success. She owed some thanks to her assistants, of course, perhaps she would allow them to be downloaded for free after the experiment's conclusion. She
almost felt bad for taking Doctor Ehrlichmann's toenails. Almost.
Dr. Adrian V. Alexander
In April 2011, in Heathrow Airport, London, Doctor Adrian Alexander flashed his passport at the security point and was waved through. Once on board the plane he discovered that his seat was furthest from the aisle, by the window. He had never flown before, but he wasn't nervous. He squeezed past the couple in the other two seats in his row and sat down. He figured it might be somewhat interesting to view the world from above, he had seen pictures but had been assured that experiences were best viewed through one's own eyes.
The couple next to him chatted away as the plane took off, but Adrian largely ignored what they were saying until one of them said something that caught his attention.
'Did you hear about that Verger woman?'
'Who? She Karen's friend? You know I can't keep up with Karen's friends, I swear she changes them every time we visit,'
'No, no! She was a supervillain, based in Switzerland, that's what they said!'
'I can't remember my own daughter's friends' names, why would I know a Swiss supervillain?'
Adrian tapped the woman to his right on the shoulder, 'Excuse me, what happened?'
She jumped slightly and turned to him, smiling broadly, happy to have someone new to talk to, 'That's an interesting accent? Where are you from? Me and Peter are from Washington,'
'My fathers taught me, one was German and one was English, please what are they saying about Verger?'
'Fathers? Well, the world's passing me by, no reason to judge you folks, I guess, why Pete and I-'
'Please! Verger?'
The woman shuffled in her seat, a frown replacing her happy smile, 'No need to be impatient, young man, she was found is all, well, bits of her,' a joyous, righteous light flared up in her eyes as she spoke, 'All over the place they say, like something tore her to shreds! Could barely identify her, she was torn up so bad! Had to do one of them tests, on her skin,' she nodded vigorously and turned back to her husband, to expand her description to an unwilling ear. Doctor Alexander, meanwhile, sat back and contemplated the information.
A voice echoed over the passengers, 'Please put your seatbelts on, and your tray tables up, we'll shortly be landing in Paragon City, Paragon City,'
Powers and Skills
Electrical Manipulation
After an untoward incident in continental Europe, Doctor Adrian Alexander discovered that his mechanical physiology permitted him to channel excess electrical energy from his capacitors to a point on his body and release it as a jolt of electricity. Considering his situation, the doctor thought it wise to study this talent, and hone the ability. He spent several months doing solid research in both robotics and his on capabilities and ran a number of experiments out of a temporary base in Munich, where a misunderstanding led him to be identified as previously believed to be deceased super villain 'Sturmstrom'. Though each of his attacks stem from this single power they can be roughly categorised thusly:
Charged Bolt:- Fast, low damage attack
Lightning Bolt:- Medium speed, medium damage attack
Zapp:- Slow, long range, high damage attack
Electric Fence:- Holds a foe in place with electrical energy
Tesla Cage:- Envelops an enemy in electricity
Havoc Punch:- Charges his fists with electrical energy to add to a good, old-fashioned metal punch
Robotic Gadgetry
Having spent much of his first year of freedom on the run, the doctor took every opportunity to enhance his technology. Early on in his life, as he fled Switzerland, he hid for a time in Vaduz and found reprieve enough from his seekers to upgrade his body. Among the first things he achieved was his personal holographic generator which, though of shoddy quality at that time, allowed him to walk freely in public without fear of detection. This first projector was constructed largely from broken parts and had many faults, it was one such malfunction that eventually led to his departure from Vaduz, and Liechtenstein as a whole, when the device shut down in the middle of a busy high street. It was fortunate that he had had enough time at that point to outfit his legs, making them stronger and more durable, giving him a vastly superior speed, and jumping ability. He has managed to re His robotic nature also gives him certain skills, such as an immunity to disease, and the ability to interface with machines.
He also has Internet access and much of his knowledge was discovered through his exploration thereof. He can speak English, French and German and is currently downloading Spanish.
Weaknesses
As a computerised consciousness, Doctor Adrian Alexander is susceptible to computer viruses and reprogramming. Fully aware of this weakness, the doctor installed a series of defences against digital attack and secrets himself away during downtime. Though he will not admit to his programming imitating an emotional response, being 'edited' is one of his greatest fears. This weakness could only be exploited by a master hacker, with access to the doctor during his downtime, who is aware of his robotic status.
Though much of his body is naturally armoured, in order to provide manoeuvrability his joints are far more exposed. A well placed blow to his elbow, or knee could knock out systems in that area of his body, or potentially sever the limb altogether. This weakness could only be exploited by a powerful, close-combat attack by someone aware of his robotic status, or by pure, damned luck.
Even though his power base is electrical energy, it would easily be possible for him to be overloaded, if enough electricity was pumped into him. This would cause his system to shut down and the excess energy released into the nearby area. He would then be rendered inoperative until an engineer could repair him and restore his memories from his backup disk. This weakness could only be exploited by someone aware of his robotic status, with the ability to direct huge quantities of electrical energy, be it through technological equipment, or their own electricity based powers, though the amount of electricity required would be immense.
