Dr. Aquarius
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
OverviewDr. Aquarius, Aquarius, the Doctor, or simply Doc, is not a real doctor at all, a fact he maintains would be different if they offered PhDs in "dashing roguery." Cool and confident, the Doctor offers his services as a "professional acquirer" to those who can afford them, using his unique magical talents to purloin everything from jewelry to information. Known HistoryThe Doctor's criminal history is quite extensive, despite his relatively recent start as a thief. Since late 2010, he has had 112 counts of breaking and entering, 52 counts of burglary, 7 counts of resisting arrest, 2 counts of assault, and 1 count of indecent exposure. Catching him has proven next to impossible thanks to a mixture of his unique abilities, his apparently nonexistent public record, and his comparatively low priority on the police's wanted list. Whatever life the Doctor had prior to 2010 has apparently been erased, lending credence to the belief that he has a computer savvy accomplice assisting him in avoiding capture. Still, the thoroughness with which his recorded existence was expunged leaves some to suspect there may be something else going on, but his low threat level has kept him safely under the radar from a more comprehensive investigation. PersonalityTricks of the TradeMagical PowersDr. Aquarius is a real live wizard. He hates that word though, so don't call him that to his face.
The Doctor's bread and butter. His level of mastery over this particular school of sorcery has been described to be years ahead of what he should currently be capable of. Perhaps he simply has a knack for it, or perhaps, for one such as he, time truly means nothing, allowing him to spend as much of it as he wishes buried in old tomes. Whatever the case, the Doctor's aptitude is apparent. He is able to speed up, slow down, or even stop the flow of time in small areas or around others. He uses these abilities to great effect in his chosen profession; entering, pilfering, and leaving before anyone can react, and indeed, sometimes before anyone notices he was there at all. The Doctor cannot reverse time. Do not ask him to do it. His reasons are many and he will cite them if you persist, but the bottom line is that he can't do it. Stop asking.
Peering into the past, the present, and indeed, even the future, is an ability in which the Doctor has little practice but is still nonetheless moderately skilled. His most frequent application of the power is planning heists, using his literal mind's eye to scope locations for entries, exits, and defenses. The Doctor can look into the future, but he doesn't like it. The nigh-infinite number of branching paths and depressing outcomes tends to overwhelm him, so he usually leaves such endeavors to the professionals.
A recent interest, the Doctor has begun dabbling with altering the properties of objects; namely, himself. So far he has succeeded in turning himself invisible, which he surmises will make his job even easier than it was before.
Through the Doctor's many forays into the occult, he has acquired a plethora of eldritch trivia, most of which cannot be applied practically. For instance, did you know that the dust left behind by demons makes an excellent substitute for baby powder? Still, he has picked up one or two things that might come in handy some day. He had to exorcise a ghost once. It wasn't fun, but it was educational. EquipmentRelying solely on one set of tools is a fool's game, or so says the Doctor.
Fashioned centuries ago by an artisan whose intention was to give the gloves the properties of the infamous king, the attempt failed miserably and their creator died alone and in disgrace. Fortunately, the gloves' other power, creating short bursts of golden-colored energy, works perfectly. The Doctor uses these to defend himself when all other avenues of escape have failed him.
Supposedly created by a sect of nihilistic Circle of Thorns magi back when Oranbega mattered, the properties of this golden belt are somewhat anti-climactic given the name, though they are still useful. The Doctor uses it to dampen hostile magical energy directed at him. It is a very important tool in his arsenal, since he is, after all, bad at dispelling. RelationshipsOrganizations
