History

Born in ancient times before the birth of the nailed god, and the rise of the sons of Charlemagne. A wanderer in his times, he battled serpent men and sorcerers, until the night before he prepared to lead a band of warriors against the hordes of Romulus. That night, a group of Arachnos elite troops gathered him and his men for a super soldier project under the command of Dr. Aeon.

Waking up in the modern day, he found himself in the process of being enhanced into an elite new form of Bane Commando. The mind control implant "failed"; Duke ripped himself off the operating table, strangled the doctor working on him, and fought his way out of the lab in Grandville. As he was hacking his way through the guards, he ran into Run Riot, who was in the process of beating Arachnos minions on his way to investigate the secret project. After a brief a stare down between IE's leader and the naked barbarian, Duke passed out from exhaustion and when next he woke up, was in IE's medbay.

Personality

Powers

Duke has numerous cybernetic enhancements.

-A universal translator that enables him to understand spoken languages.

-A Gps locator that show his position in the rogue isles, unfortunately Duke doesn't really know the lay of the land.

-Internal clock that blinks 12:00 all the time in his field of vision.

-Hard Wire interface to help access his armor, he doesn't wear the armor most of the time as it slows him down.

-Advanced chemical detectors in his nasal passages and on his tongue. this doesn't improve his naturally keen senses but lets him know what he is smelling or tasting.

-Duke has a bane spider mace, which he refers to as the spideraxemacething with all the standard features of such a weapon.

In addition to these artifacts of Arachnos Duke Godsteel is also a superb athlete of near superhuman strength, speed, and stamina. In spite of his size Duke moves with lionlike grace.

Affiliations

He is a member of Inevitable Evolution.

Friends and allies

Opinions from those to fight beside and those who have crossed swords with Duke.

Mortal Man -Medical Examination Notes; Duke Godsteel's cybernetics do not appear to have adversely effected his health in anyway. His general health is excellent for a normal human, perhaps even perfect. Cholesterol, heart rate, reflexes, endurance- all of it tests out at peak health, although some of it challenges current medical knowledge. 'Peak human' has always been a shaky definition at best.

Perhaps the most disturbing and interesting analysis of Duke Godsteel is his interaction with magic. Duke's soul appears normal- too normal for a man whose survived what he has and done what hes done. Most people who live through necromantic attacks show spiritual scarring, but Duke's aura is utterly intact; those of great will tend to shine like lights in the darkness, but Duke's spirit is blander than any I've encountered. It's normality is a lie.

Initial tests in magic show that while he interacts with it normally in most cases- scrying works on him, attacks hurt him, magical items retain their power in his hands, yet magic seems to fail in its interactions with him at the oddest and most convenient of times. A 'debilitating' curse on him breaks right as he gets within killing distance of an evil sorceror, seemingly invulnerable beasts suddenly find themselves impaled by his ordinary steel. I do not pretend to know exactly what the source of this ability is, but it seems that he cancels magic when he needs to most. Perhaps it is will alone that makes this so.

Character Inspiration

The works of Robert E. Howard most especially Conan, Solomon Kane, and Kull.
