Theme: "Death Came Early That Year" by Two Steps From Hell

The World

An alternate Earth that diverged over a hundred years ago. A world divided into realms yet all serving one ruler. Magic flowed, moving like water through the people. Beauty rose high. Technology took a back burner.

The Royal Family: Patriarchal family that rules her Earth.

The Arcanes: Fiera, Aquas, and Terra. These mighty three served as warriors, the military, the hand of those who ruled. Pneumata. Healers. Followers of the Christian Faith imbued with miraculous abilities.

The Elders: The teachers, the scholars, those who advise the Arcanes.

The Upper Floor: The highest advisers, second only to the Royal Family. They have the final say, taking into consideration the opinions of The Elders. It is them who decide who will and will not be an Arcane.

The Guard

The three warrior divisions of Arcanes are, as a whole, referred to as The Guard. While they only keep to their own kind for most of their lives they each play a major role in the running the world.

Marshals: Those who are in command on the battlefield. Each division of Arcane has no less than thirty Marshals. Each Marshal has been highly trained and imbued with a power greater than the average Arcane.

Fierce Battle and Good Rest: A saying, be it greeting or goodbye, that all members of the Guard use. It is accompanied by a very slight bow and tilt of the head to the right and down.

The War

Uprisings were not uncommon and were met with swift justice by the powers at be.

The Guard was sent out farther and with more direct a purpose. Hold back and then turn the tide. It was magic that came against them and only those who wielded magic stood the best chance at bringing the world back out of chaos.

So the Arcanes went to war.

The Portal

The war had taken its toll, even the very earth they fought upon began to protest. At the seat of power, The Upper Floor came to a decision. Embracing the most gifted and wise of their number they sought out a means to save at least a portion of themselves. Together they built a portal, developing its rites and rituals using the most advanced magic and tech they had access to. With it they would escape.

All the while the storm moved closer, their entire world beginning to unravel.

Alone

The war had come to the gates. It had passed all barriers and obstacles, pressing itself into the sanctuary of The Upper Floor.

The Guard stood strong but began to fail as more and more of them were incapacitated or killed. Among them was a Fiera Arcane by the name of Lexi Lucas. Following orders she put herself between the onslaught and the portal her superiors had spent years putting into place.

Yet she could not hold them off. Those few who stood with her fell one by one. Unforeseen were the ranks that converged from behind. Most of The Upper Floor went down. Next the world itself shook and trembled, a large wave of.... something heading their way. The two who managed to avoid being taken down had just enough time to activate the portal before the wave overwhelmed The Upper Floor.

Lexi, being near and still alive, was grabbed and hauled in with them.

They tumbled, pulled through to the other side which happened to open at Portal Corp, Paragon City, USA. However something was wrong. They didn't hop, they faded into existence. At least Lexi did. As she coalesced into existence Lexi turned. Those two, the other other people from her world, were only partially there. She reached out to them, her hands going right through them as their bodies rejected solidifying. She watched as they were there and then were not.

She was alone.

Tangent

Arriving at Portal Corp, Lexi was stunned. The techs swarmed, rushing her off to an isolated room. A medical exam, an in depth interview and hours later she found herself given walking papers. They dropped her off at Tangent Station, an interstellar space station that was still grounded. Being put together by Mike Mars and registered with the city as a supergroup, Tangent offers a place where displaced heroes from destroyed worlds can find a home.

At first he refused her admittance but eventually he relented.

She was given a comm and put to work. Since she had no belongings and nowhere to live he arranged with Bobby and Zoe for her to live in their apartment building. He also gave her his credit card, which she used to furnish her home, pick up necessities and buy some clothing. She's put in plenty of work there, not always for the best as her experiences are far from technical. However she is an asset when it comes to needing welding done.

Friends

Almost immediately she made some friends via Mike, his connection to the late, great Zenvious Foundation and Tangent's coalition with the The Invictus Foundation.

Martin, a synthetic intelligence, she would consider a friend as well. Despite the fact she sees him as a goblin.

Facade

Theme: "Sadness and Sorrow" from Naruto

She's lost her world. She's lost her family. She's lost her way of life. Yet from the moment she realized she was alone she has kept how she feels about it to herself.

Nightmares

She has them. They haunt her but she's only mentioned them in passing to a friend or two. They don't keep her from sleeping, though. She's disciplined enough to know that she needs rest no matter what happens in her mind while she does.

Smiles

Theme: "Cry for Help" by Rick Astley

No one knows exactly how she feels. Lexi smiles and laughs. She keeps things lighthearted as much as possible. It's not an act but a part of her personality she's focused on since her arrival. One day she will have to come to terms with what's happened, what she's lost and with her own feelings regarding it.

Redemption

Theme: "Fight Fire With Fire" by Apocalyptica

An attempt at it, perhaps.

Status

She registered as a hero with the city. Taking the moniker of Fiera Arcane she's focused on patrol, on making the world here better.

Orenbegans

It was them. On her world they were who they fought against in the war that ended things. Lexi took it upon herself to go up against them nearly daily in her service to the city. She's passionate about it. But that too she is not nearly so verbal about.

Freedom

Theme: "End Credits" from The Bourne Ultimatum

Being here Lexi is not bound to the discipline, the expectations or the requirements of the Guard.

Choices

Theme: "Lose Control" by Evanescence

You enter the Guard at age seven. Once inducted you are required to push aside everything but serving. This includes relationships- any close relationships whether sexual or not. You're given one opportunity at age twenty to opt out of the Guard, to marry. Lexi did not take that option.

Brother

One of the Invictus members has become a dear friend to her. Xeno. She sees him as a brother, him reminding her of her now dead younger brother Wade. In some ways she thinks of him as a Pneumata Arcane, a fellow Guard member. The two spend a lot of time together both patrolling and in conversation. No one, other than Mike, is as close to her as Xeno. She likes to think the same can be said of her for him.

Him

Theme: "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts

Mike. She likes him. More than likes him. He's been her friend since she arrived and that friendship has grown into more. He's handsome. He's kind. He's confident. He's got a purpose. She's attracted to him in ways that she had never considered- having been trained to suppress every hint of them.

Respectful. He's understanding and has not pushed her to talk about her world or her feelings concerning its loss.

He makes her smile and laugh. She enjoys being at his side, whether they're on a date, patrolling, working on the Station or hanging out with friends. Mike is introducing her to the world, to its joys and to it's horrors. All the while he's standing right beside her.

While she was an employee he has since fired her. Instead they are a part of that same purpose- a part of Tangent.

They are a couple. They have exchanged the words, "I love you". Mike suggested she move in with him and she did, taking up residence in his Skyway city apartment.

Student

Lexi has always been taught by the Elders. A never ending process of growth, maturity, talent and skill.

Elder

There is a man involved in Tangent, someone Mike suggested, by the name of Nigel Kaine- hero moniker Lore. A former member of The Zenvious Foundation he's delved into the depths of magic and has taken on students before. She met with him and he's agreed to teach her. She thinks. Talking to him was very confusing. He's definitely an odd individual.

Though she sees him as an Elder he refuses the title. Instead he's asked her to refer to him as Arcanist Kaine. There was a bit of disappointment at his first analysis of her abilities, basically saying her training had been incorrect.

She's excited at the prospect of continuing in her studies. She's not a mage and never will be. She's a Fiera Aracane. To learn to be a better one is necessary.

Purpose

Theme: "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence

This world, this place, is not her home. But it could be. The people here she can defend. Perhaps here she will become even more than she could have been.

Hero of the City

Thursday, September 17th, 2010. Ms. Liberty bestowed on Lexi the title of Hero of the City. A representative of Tangent she now has the highest Security Level that can be given, recognition for her service to the city since coming to this world.

Family

Mike's family became a substitute one for her. She fit in well, attending family events including a Halloween Weekend extravaganza, Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas shopping. His twin, Blue, and his cousin, Zoe, became her close friends- people she could spend time with doing normal things such as going for coffee, walking the mall or just talking.

Dreams

Lexi can't help but think that she never wants this to end. Her nightmares became rare and continually get rarer. She's happy.

Field Officer

Along with her new family she's made friends of those who now number among Tangent's list of crew. As often as she can she makes sure to work beside them, giving them lessons in strategy and working as a team. This attitude and practice earned her the position of Field Officer.

Adversity

Theme: "Stand" by Rascal Flatts

Things can't stay perfect forever. Not even for heroes. Maybe especially not for heroes.

Monsters

Blue went vigilante. Friend, sister and crewmember she turned on those who cared about her most. Including her brother. Lexi watched, unable to do anything. Not long after her change and disappearance Mike did the same thing. He ran from Lexi, from them all, and sought a new purpose in the Isles. They weren't themselves.

Commander

With Mike gone it fell to Lexi to step up as the leader- the Commander- of Tangent. As such she interviewed and brought in three new crew members. She oversaw the installation of the Medical Facility and put in plenty of hours to cover the patrolling that wasn't being done. Xeno and Seldric ended up in the Isles helping to find Mike. That made four people out of commission. Lexi took up the slack and encouraged the others to do the same. While this meant she slept little she knew it was important. When Mike returned she wanted Tangent to be as good or better than when he'd left.

Loss

Theme: "Into the West" by Annie Lennox

Once they had a Doctor among their number Lexi made a point to go for a physical. Ever since she'd first gotten sexual with Mike she'd worried. That probably had something to do with Martin's comments about possible diseases and contaminants her offworldly body might be carrying. Prior to that she had been prescribed sleeping pills by Dr. Ferris, using them every few days to ensure rest. The physical was nothing out of the ordinary until a holoimage was taken- a scan of her body from the inside out. What it showed was something she hadn't expected. She was pregnant. At home those in the Guard were given one chance to leave, to turn away from magic and have a family- have a husband and children. She hadn't chosen that and here in Paragon, on Primal Earth, her magic only grew stronger. What did that mean for her pregnancy? Immediately worried she asked the doctor to check, to find out if her baby was okay. It wasn't. Her baby was dead. Not only that but he feared for her so the fetus would have to be removed. She asked Zoe to come, Mike still being away. The empath did, helping with the surgery and being there for Lexi. She even let Lexi stay the night at her and Bobby's apartment. Though she didn't stay long, leaving for patrol as soon as she could compose herself enough.

Mike

Martin told Lexi that Mike had been found, that he was returning. He did so, surprising her on the Station. Their reunion had to wait about an hour as they spent time with crewmembers who found their way to them. However, they eventually left for home. Once there they had a lot to talk about. It was a night of tears and comfort as they both dealt with the knowledge they'd had a child and lost it. That above all occupied the first night of Mike's return.

Even though he's returned Lexi is Commander Pro Tem of Tangent. She will remain so until they're sure what happened to him will not happen again. She found it difficult to do but she's restricted him to Provisional access to the Station and, without his knowledge, has Martin monitoring everything he does. No matter how much she loves him she knows that he would do the same to protect Tangent.

Solutions

After a discussion with both Dr. Ferris and with Arcanist Kaine, Lexi came away with the knowledge that the magic she'd been imbued with- the power of the Guard- had killed her baby. It would happen again as well, unless something broke that curse. The Doctor suggested in vitro, a surrogate or a lab as possible solutions. She wouldn't consider any of them. Arcanist Kaine came up with three magical alternatives: One involved the fetus and with every thought made Lexi vomit, another involved Mike and a painful accompaniment to their sexual relations and the last was not painful at all but difficult to consider even being an option- It required having some water from a Fountain of Youth. Needless to say Mike accepted the idea that he'd have to endure the pain- yes pain for the invulnerable Hero Prime-.

Merry Christmas

Lexi's first Christmas was full of surprises and joy as she shared it with Mike and his family.

Gifts

She exchanged gifts, being a little uncertain as to what to give since she'd never bought them before. Everyone was happy with what they received.

Zoe delivered on what she had said she would give as a Christmas present. A vial of crystal clear water from a Fountain of Youth. She'd used her contacts- the girl has TONS of them- and found what they needed. The curse would be lifted, this gift would allow Lexi to heal and for a child to survive if she were ever to get pregnant. Lexi will never be able to thank her enough.

Yes

Theme: "Amazed" by Lonestar

On the 25th of December, 2010- the evening of Christmas Day after Lexi and Mike had returned home from Mr. Zen's mansion full of family and friends- Mike sprung on her a surprise. A ring. A beautiful titanium ring with a large diamond.

"Lexi Lucas will you marry me?"

Of course she said yes.

For the next few days they reveled in the joy of their news- keeping it to themselves and savoring it- until finally they shared it. First with Bobby and Zoe and then with rest of the family.. then with Xeno.. then with everyone else.

New Year

A new year. Lexi started it off right by handing back control of Tangent to Mike. Fit and safe for duty with the help of a neural inhibitor to keep any mind control at bay it was the best way to begin fresh. This is a relief to her.

Shock

In an instant things can change. For the better. For the worst. In Paragon City that's an everyday occurrence.

Reserve

Mike put Lexi on Active Reserve when it became apparent there was something wrong. It was dangerous for her and for the crew to have her in the field. Sluggish and tired things were just off for the fire wielder. She made an appointment to meet with Dr. Ferris and with Arcanist Kaine.

Gone Again

Theme: "You to Miss" by Love and Theft

Lexi was in Nepal with Mike's family when they found Blue. A team, lead by Mike, found and rescued her all while Lexi enjoyed lunch (The time zones being thirteen hours apart). However there was more. Something had been let loose and Blue, manipulated by her abductors, had sent it do destroy the world. She had thought it was Mike, expected it to be Mike but instead the Commander of Tangent had to save the world from some form of himself.

Zoe was the one who told Lexi that the man she loved had gone missing, that this time it wasn't a trip to the Isles but the loss of his energy signature. He was nowhere. Beyond that Martin took control of Tangent, per Protocol 23 that Mike had apparently instituted after his last disappearance. Lexi was first in line to be Commander Pro Tem with Martin second. However, because Mike had put her on Active Reserve she wasn't eligible. Not only was Mike gone but Lexi wouldn't be able to serve in his stead.

Hope

Theme: "One Love" by Blue

Theme: "Star Wars VI: Victory Celebration"

Though she cried there was still hope. No one knew for certain what had happened. If there was anything that could be learned int a place like Paragon City it was that things weren't always what they seemed, that hope always stayed alive. Mike could return. Someday. Somehow. She'd cling to that and expect it. There was no arguing with Martin about the possibility of her being taken off Reserve and taking position as Commander. Especially not when Zoe backed his decision. In fact, Zoe said, she should stay on Reserve for seven or eight more months.

Lexi was pregnant.

Imposter?

Theme: "I Caught Myself" by Paramore

It's not him. Or it could be. She doesn't know and the not knowing is painful. Xeno and Brian will search the Caldera, explore and try to find out more information.

She took time with -Him- and via Martin she learns the truth. It's not her Mike. Yet how can you tell the difference?

Tangent, as far as the world can know, has their Commander back.

... as she closes her eyes she puts her hand on her stomach, fingers moving. That's what's real. In there. His baby. She just misses him so much. She wants HIM to be so excited, wants it to be him here holding her. She wants a lot of things. But instead she'll be held and know he's not here. She'll wait, hoping he'll come home. She'll pretend to give the world the Hero Prime it deserves. And all the while she'll keep telling herself that this... this person holding her isn't Mike. It's not his voice or touch or smell.. it's a lie.. a cruel and mean and horrible lie.

Delusional

She might be too close. Just about everyone can see that Lexi is getting a tad confused. Mike. The replacement is him to her sometimes. Far more than he should be. Blindly she trusts him, defending every action. Calling him Mike.

Fade

Not long after Mike went missing and the Beta Unit arrived the skinflame which had glowed so brightly before with emotions of joy faded to nothing. With the death of their child near Christmas Lexi's glow had dulled. Then, still dull, it had risen in temperature as her body adjusted to being pregnant a second time- this time with the curse from home removed. Now, however, there's nothing. No heat, no glow. No skinflame.

Proxy

He's keeping a different appearance around her. She's also calling calling him by the name Beta instead of Mike. She understands she's been using him as a proxy for her fiance. Holding her at night being something that must stop. So he's moved to the couch. The world still doesn't know that Mike's dead so the replacement is doing his job.

Cleared for Duty

Dr. Ferris gave her permission to be in the field. In a support capacity and as long as she avoids getting hit in the abdomen.

Agatha

A group interrogates Agatha Black. By the time it's over they've found out where Frisco is, the Psychic Nazi Ninja Lawyer has claimed that Lexi's baby belongs to "her" and Claire's made a promise to bring Frisco back to the twin.

Mistakes

Using Xeno's portal another group goes to the Isles, to Sharkshead, in search of Frisco Redbath. They think that it's possible he can lead them or at least help them find Mike. On a ship they discover the man and they bring him down. Not dead. They want him arrested. However before they can bring him to justice Brian kills him. Kris tries to stop him but she's not fast enough. Brian escapes and they return to Paragon with the body.

Kris turns over the video recording, which someone doesn't implicate anyone else. Lexi discusses this with her and with Martin. No one else is to admit they were there. Brian will be arrested if they can find him. Lexi is questioned by the police as to how she knows. Kris told her. That's what she says. Kris on the other hand is arrested and then remanded into the custody of Tangent- her movements monitored by Martin. Tangent will also be providing her the best lawyers.

A mistake. Lexi made a mistake. She failed to research just who and what Brian was. He never should have been on that mission and now there's trouble.

What Tangent Stands For

Truth. Honesty. Justice. And that doesn't include letting one of their crew take a fall for something they didn't do. It took her first conversation with one of the other crew members, Dr. Ferris, to remind her of that. She's been frustrated and flustered. Visiting the PPD she sets the record straight, telling them everything.

Rescue

Major Adrianne Vantage asked to speak with Lexi, who brought Sebastian with her to a secluded area. She told them where Mike could be found. Or at least his body, his soul/spirit. S.W.O.R.D. They were shot at and they fled, the Major tossing them a gemstone just before they portaled away. That stone they showed to Nigel Kaine who, unknown to himself, shifted into a Solar named Jakael. He told them it needed to be returned to it's heart. This led Lexi and her fellow crew members on a journey to reforge a sword and then to the facility itself where a deal was made. They'd clear out the demons in exchange for Mike. This they did and when they found him Mike accepted the sword they'd reforged and exchanged it for his freedom. He came home. Lexi immediately filled him in on all that had happened.

Homonculus

Knowing that Lexi desired desperately to return to the field after Mike deemed it necessary for her to stop near the fourth month of her pregnancy Arcanist Kaine, after a short confusing discussion, cut off her hair and with it wove a small scarflike cloth. Putting it over her eyes it will put her to sleep and in that sleep she can control a Homonculus he made of her form- her abilities transferred to it. While a bit disorienting she happily uses it- returning to active duty.

Something Ends and Something Begins

A strike against Tangent Station in the early hours of Monday, May 16th 2011 could have ended in catastrophe. Quick thinking and new experimental portal technology was all that saved Mike, Lexi and their unborn child from certain death as the remnant of Station East plummeted towards Primal Earth. Choosing to stay by Mike's side instead of living without him they were all- including the entirety of the space station piece they were in- teleported to another Earth in another dimension. From this one they would never return. Mr. Zen was able to speak to them prior to their salvation and he assured them that they went with the blessing of Mike's parents.

As long as Lexi is with Mike, their child with them, she can survive and endure. They'd been given a charge for this new world. A mission. To be a beacon, a light. Lexi- Fiera Arcane- had been given the responsibility to bring imagination, magic and wonder to those who had yet to see and experience it.

She'd lost a world again. Family. Friends.

But she wasn't alone this time.

Fierce Battle and Good Rest to all she leaves behind.

Tidbits

If there were a movie made I originally found that Lexi would be played by "Scarlett Johansson". She was not the best choice but I hadn't found anyone else who was even close. Then, after we started watching a show called Veronica Mars, I couldn't help but think that "Kristen Bell" would be good for the roll. Now I think I found someone even better! "Katheryn Winnick".

One thing to remember is that Lexi has dark brownish skin and blonde hair which is very rare to find.

Apparently dark skinned blondes (DSB) is a a TV Trope. I did NOT know this when I made her. I just thought she looked sexy.
