Background
The Streets
Glenn Harris was born on October 8th, 1982 to a single mother, Alexandra Harris. Alexandra had been a high school dropout and junkie who moved from guy to guy when she needed a new place to stay. She was 22 when she got pregnant with Glenn. She wasn't sure who the father was or if she even wanted to keep the child. She eventually decided that the child could be a new chance at life for her. She decided a drastic change in her life was in order to care for her unborn child. She started by trying to kick her drug habits and clean herself up. She managed to get into a rehab program and was ultimately successful in getting off the drugs. One of the counselors set her up with a decent paying job and a place to stay. She set off on her new life, hoping she could provide a stable home for her unborn son.
She did the best she could to raise Glenn, working ridiculous hours while he sat in the car or the diner or wherever was safest for him at the time. She knew it wasn't the best for him but she couldn't afford daycare and she figured he'd be safest close to her. He learned how to draw at a young age, often bored while sitting around waiting for his mother to get off work. Alexandra tried to enroll Glenn in school. She only ended up taking him maybe once or twice a week, which saddened him. He was a bright child however, with a positive outlook on life despite the circumstances. When he was 9 he began going to the local library to teach himself how to read and learn about the world outside the city. One of the librarians, Amy Saunders, had begun to take notice of the boy coming into the library alone everyday. She was a kind woman and decided to offer him anything she could to help him with his incredible thirst for knowledge. She tutored him for several hours a day on the days when the library was slow, and sent him home with books when it was too busy. He became quite intelligent with Amy's help. He also continued to further his drawing skills, drawing pictures of the far off places he'd read about in his books. Unfortunately after only a few months Amy had gotten married and moved away, leaving Glenn to tutor himself.
When he was only 12 his mother started up the drugs again and basically gave up on him. She started dating questionable men again, men who would sometimes yell at or even hit Glenn while his mother was too strung out to notice. He had felt betrayed having his mother sit there and allow him to be abused. Eventually he had had enough and decided he would run away and brave the streets by himself. Two years later he learned that his mother had died from a drug overdose. At that point in his life he didn't even care, or miss her.
Things got hard for Glenn but he continued to draw, always finding places to escape to. He also continued to go to school, receiving top marks for his skills. During high school he decided he wanted to become an archaeologist and explore the world. He wanted to visit all the wonderful places he had read about. He poured all his energy into his studies and easily earned a scholarship. He decided to attend UC Berkley.
A Strange New Life
It was hard for Glenn to adjust to college life at first, seeing all the well-dressed, well-mannered students. Himself barely having enough outfits for people to not notice he was homeless. Living in the dorm was pretty new too. Having a place to live, nothing to worry about but his grades. It was a welcome change.
He was determined to complete school and live a different life than his mother. He focused hard and devoted all his time to his studies. He had decided to take some law enforcement courses in addition to his archaeology studies. He figured it would be nice to teach himself about law as well as to maybe sharpen up his discipline. He really enjoyed those courses and started thinking about other alternatives for his life.
His main archaeology teacher was Professor Arthur Mundas, a man revered for his findings in Central and South America. Glenn always felt he didn't quite fit in with the rich kids in the class but the professor took a liking to him, and so did one of the other students, Rentis Krogen. The professor liked Glenn's persistence and his knack for catching on quickly. He saw true potential in Glenn but he could also sense that his heart wasn't completely in it, unlike Rentis.
Rentis and Glenn became friends rather easily, telling each other stories of their imaginary discoveries. They got along really well considering the fact that they had been brought up so much differently. Rentis Krogen was a modest man, despite his upbringing, which is probably why Glenn got along so well with him as opposed to the other people in the class.
Rentis was from Seattle. His parents were some kind of antique dealers to the rich and powerful. They were very giving people however and didn't keep much of their wealth. Rentis had told Glenn that they had built a manor off the Atlantic coast and donated almost everything else to charity. Rentis had been the same way. His parents had died in an accident and he decided to sell their business and donate a large sum to charity. Glenn found that admirable. He looked up to Rentis, who was only slightly older than himself. They eventually became roommates their sophomore year. The two excelled in their studies and Professor Mundas felt honored to have students who were so driven. They went on local digs and even a few on other continents when the time allowed. Glenn had always noticed a certain glow about Rentis whenever they would go on a dig, as though his life was dependent on each new adventure. Glenn enjoyed the adventure himself, but he didn't quite feel the same glow within himself. A few times they'd have some friendly competition to see who could find the best artifacts, but Rentis always won. When they weren't out on digs, Glenn would volunteer for the local authorities doing police ride alongs and volunteer security work. He had enjoyed that quite a bit and each time he'd go out he thought more and more about what he really wanted to do with his life. He really did enjoy Rentis's company, and he felt as though he'd let him down if he decided to stop going out on digs.
During the holidays Rentis would always try to get Glenn to go back to Seattle with him, just to relax and kick back. Glenn always decided not to go with him though. Although Rentis never advertised that he was rich, Glenn always felt slightly inferior and the thought of seeing his house frightened him a bit. He had also began feeling things for Rentis that he wasn't sure of. Things that worried and even scared him. He didn't want his feelings to manifest into anything, and he felt that keeping enough distance would fix the problem. He was wrong. One night during the summer before their junior year he started having dreams, dreams about Rentis. He'd wake up in the night drenched with sweat. He'd look over at Rentis's bed and imagine what it would be like to lie next to him, his hands free to wander and explore as if his body were some undiscovered temple. He hated feeling the things he did, like there was something to be ashamed of. He wasn't sure why, maybe because it just felt different, abnormal almost. He had had the dreams for several months. One night when he woke up, he looked over and noticed Rentis had been awake himself. He froze a moment until Rentis asked him if he was ok. He replied with a very unconvincing yes and tried to hide himself in his blankets. When Rentis had asked him to visit Seattle over Christmas that year he couldn't take it anymore. Instead of his normal disagreement over travelling he agreed to go.
When they got to Seattle Rentis, obviously excited, insisted they take the weekend and go skiing. Glenn didn't really know how to ski but Rentis seemed so excited he decided to give it a try. To his surprise he wasn't too bad, a natural Rentis had said. After their weekend it was time to finally see the manor. They pulled into the driveway and Glenn stared in awe. It was the biggest house he'd ever seen. A light grey color, box shaped building with what seemed like hundreds of windows. Two pillars in the center guarded the door as if to say no trespassers allowed. The entrance hall was grand in size and very open. Various paintings and tapestries draped the walls. Two staircases crept out from the floor making their way up to the second level. A railing guarded the floor above so as not to fall. Rentis insisted they take a tour. Each room was filled with exquisite art and artifacts all placed in a way that would almost tell a story. For a moment Glenn had thought he was only dreaming. They finished the tour before finally settling in for an evening of movies. None of the movies they had watched were all too exciting, a few action movies and a comedy. Glenn wasn't paying much attention anyway. He was too busy thinking about the situation he had gotten himself in. Would he try anything? What if he did and Rentis grossed out on him? What would he do then? Some of the things he thought to himself before his thoughts began trailing off. He just wanted to sleep he had decided.
Rentis had prepared the guest bedroom for Glenn to stay in, across the hall from his own. It was nice to know they weren't in the same room like back at the dorms. He decided to just try and forget about his feelings and try to get some sleep. They said goodnight to each other and Glenn closed the door. He walked over to the bed and sat down. He sat there, staring at the wall for a few minutes before finally lying down on top of the covers. He closed his eyes, hoping he'd just fall asleep and it'd all be over. Of course he couldn't and instead he just laid there, thinking about Rentis, who was no more than 15 feet away in the other room. It was all Glenn could think about. His beautiful body that Glenn had seen so many times out on their digs. Sometimes covered in dirt which made him that much more attractive. Then there were the times he'd take his shirt off on a hot day. It felt as though time itself seemed to slow down as Glenn would watch a single drop of sweat fall from Rentis's brow and slowly make it's way down his perfectly sculpted body. A body Glenn had so many times dreamed of holding, of touching and discovering,
He suddely snapped back to reality when he heard a knock on the door. He noticed his shirt had become nearly drenched with sweat and decided to remove it, not knowing what Rentis would think if he saw him covered in sweat. He wiped his forehead and tossed the shirt onto his bag before heading to the door. He knew it would be Rentis. They were the only two in the entire manor. He walked to the door and hesitated as he turned the knob to open it. He opened the door and there was Rentis, standing in the hall. Rentis had been wearing a t-shirt and pajama pants, decent sleep attire he thought to himself. He then realized he was still wearing his jeans and had forgotten to change. The two simply stood there for a moment, a moment that felt like an eternity. Rentis didn't say anything but once their eyes met Glenn knew what he had wanted. Glenn was tired of thinking, of wishing. He placed both of his hands on Rentis's face and slowly pulled their two bodies together before their lips met. In that moment everything that Glenn had been feeling, all the tension and anguish, seemed to just melt away. He become a totally different person. A more confident being who would have the affection he'd been craving. He moved his hands to the back of Rentis's head, sliding his fingers through his soft, chocolate hair. He let his arms rest on the other man's shoulders as he tried to pull him even closer. He felt Rentis's arms slide around his torso onto his exposed back, helping to bring their bodies together.
The two continued to kiss, feeling the soft touch of each other's lips. They kissed for a minute or two before Glenn lowered his hands from Rentis's head as their bodies slowly seperated from their almost vice-like grip. They stood there, holding each other gently, looking into each others eyes. Rentis went to speak but he was interrupted by Glenn's finger, as if being told he didn't need to say anything to express what he was feeling. Glenn lowered his hand, letting it slide down Rentis's torso as they kissed again, feeling the skin and muscle through his thin shirt. He moved his hand to Rentis's back and slowly began stepping backward, gently pulling, making his way to the empty bed. A moment later he could feel the bed touching the back of his knees. He pulled away slightly and let his body fall backwards, still in Rentis's gentle embrace. When he was finally on the bed he could feel Rentis's hands sliding away from his body. Rentis stood up and placed his hands on his waist, arms crossed. He clenched his shirt and began to lift it. Glenn sat up and placed his hands on Rentis's torso, finally able to realize the dream he'd had so many times before. Glenn kissed the exposed flesh of Rentis's chest as he finished removing his shirt. He tasted a slightly salty taste, sweat. "Such a wonderful taste," he thought to himself. Rentis cocked his head back and closed his eyes, allowing his body to be worshiped. He put his right hand behind Glenn's head and guided it across his torso allowing him to kiss the various areas across his chest. After a moment he corrected his neck and leaned forward, gently pushing Glenn back to the bed with himself on top. They kissed again, not as passionate as before but in a more primal, fierce way.
Glenn placed his hands on Rentis's back, letting his fingers explore the dips and ridges of his shoulders and spine. He could feel Rentis's body twist and contort slightly as it guided his fingers downward. He felt the indent of his rips and the curve of his lower back. He allowed his hands to venture further, finally meeting where cloth and skin met at Rentis's waist. He didn't even hesitate before letting his hand venture further, underneath the cloth fabric of Rentis's pants. He gently squeezed the soft skin with his hand, hearing Rentis let out a small grunt. He then rolled Rentis over, carefully removing his hand as their bodies turned. He stood up and places his hands on Rentis's hips, firmly gripping the waist of the pajama bottoms, He slowly pulled them down. Down past his thighs, and then his knees, letting them fall around his ankles hanging off the side of the bed. That left Rentis's body fully exposed, bare and naked. He had finally made the discovery he had yearned for for so long. He undid the button on his own pants that he had clumsily forgotten to change out of with everything going on. He hurriedly unzipped the zipper and pushed them off, all the while eying Rentis's exposed body, his temple. He stepped out of his pants but hesitated for a moment. He looked down at his own exposed body just now realizing how excited he had become. He blushed a bit in embarrassment and tried to cover himself up with his hands. He looked at Rentis only to notice a smile. A smile that said it was okay, that he didn't have to hide himself anymore. Rentis reached up and grabbed Glenn's hands. He moved them, exposing Glenn's body again. Rentis smiled again and slowly pulled Glenn back on top of him. Their bodies finally met with nothing in between, nothing to stand in the way.
Rentis had gotten up first the next morning. He was no longer in bed when Glenn woke up. He opened his eyes for a moment but didn't bother to move. He thought about what had happened that night. He couldn't help but smile before finally getting himself out of bed.
An Uneasy Goodbye
They were practically inseparable after that Christmas break and everyone knew it. When they were in class some of the students would stare. Some would be disgusted, others would smile. Professor Mundas wasn't surprised at all. He figured there were just issues between the two that they had to deal with first. They had a few more archaeological digs throughout the rest of their junior year and the following summer. Despite everything that had happened Glenn still didn't feel whatever it was he had thought Rentis was feeling. He had also continued with his law enforcement training. By the end of that summer he had enough classes completed to do just about anything in law enforcement.
Things started changing during their senior year. Glenn had decided to stop going on the digs. He devoted most of his time to his law classes and getting his body in top shape. A few months before graduation he had began to get a sinking feeling inside. A feeling that the possibility of a future with Rentis wasn't as realistic and they had both thought. He knew that Rentis was an adventurer. That glow he had seen, it was unmistakable. He wanted to just forget about his dreams and go with Rentis. Travel the world and visit all those exotic locations. He knew though, in his heart, that he couldn't be happy all things considered. He began feeling upset and slightly selfish, thinking about his own needs and not the needs of Rentis. The man he thought he was so uncontrollably in love with. He thought there would be practically no chance of their relationship working from such a long distance away.
Three weeks before graduation he decided they would have to talk. Rentis was sitting at his desk in their room, studying an artifact Professor Mundas had given him. Glenn sat on the bed next to the desk, waiting for Rentis to notice he was there. It took a minute but eventually he looked up from his book long enough to notice. Glenn decided he would just be out with it and hope for the best. He explained how he had been feeling from the start. How he'd noticed the glow about Rentis that he didn't have. He told him about all the other classes he had been taking. Rentis had known about a few of them but he was surprised to hear just how extensive it was. He had also told him that he had visited a police recruiter at a job fair and got offered a job in Paragon City. Rentis looked down, as if he had already known. He nodded to Glenn but didn't actually say anything. Glenn decided to head out for the night. He grabbed his coat and hurried out. He didn't want to think about it and start to cry where Rentis could see. A part of him didn't want to go but he knew if he stayed it would only get worse. He spent most of the night driving around the city. He stopped at a bar or two for a quick drink but he never stayed. When he got back later than night Rentis was asleep as he'd expected.
Over the next 3 weeks they didn't talk to each other very much. Glenn figured Rentis was just trying to make the inevitable easier. It was awkward at times, Glenn was always the type that could distance himself easily, so naturally he took it better than Rentis.
Glenn was the first to wake up on graduation day. He got ready and grabbed his stuff. He looked over at Rentis for a moment, who was still asleep, before heading out. When he arrived at the auditorium he felt an overwhelming sense of pride. He had actually done it, he told himself. Never in his life did he think he would come from the shithole his mother left him in and actually graduate college. He found his seat amongst the sea of hundreds of other graduates and sat down. He hadn't noticed it but Rentis entered the auditorium and sat down only a few minutes after he did. The entire ceremony was bittersweet for him. He got goosebumps when he heard his name called to accept his diploma.
After the ceremonies were over Glenn and Rentis met back up in their room. Glenn packed the few clothes and personal items he had into his pack. He had planned on going with the PPD recruiter to the airport to catch a plane to Paragon so there wasn't much time for goodbyes, but it was Rentis. He had to do something. They decided to end their relationship on a mutual friendship basis, a hug and a hand shake. "Take care Glenn," was all Rentis said as he was exiting the room to rush to the airport. The entire plane ride all he could think about was that first night he had spent with Rentis in the guest bedroom of his manor. He wondered if he was making the wrong choice.
"No," he finally told himself. "Rentis will be ok, he'll go on to discover all types of amazing things. Guys like Rentis deserve better than guys like me," he nodded as he told himself.

Unexpected Guests
One day while Glenn was on patrol he overheard talk of Scirocco looking for a magic tome. a Mira tome. Glenn remembered overhearing his old friend Rentis mention that word one night when he was having what looked like a nightmare. It seemed to be a pretty intense one too. It sounded like something that would require further investigation. He contacted Longbow and gave his debriefing, hoping they had some information on this "Mira." He was told the only information they had came from Rentis himself. Rentis told them that he had found an additional temple and after further investigation he found nothing. Glenn didn't figure Rentis for the type to just discover something as big as that and find absolutely nothing. He decided to personally investigate further, knowing something wasn't right.
He began asking around in hopes of finding someone who knew where he could find the tome. Lucky for him he had charmed his way into the hearts of a Fortunata or two. Clearly not very advanced mind readers if they couldn't pick up on the fact that he was gay. Of course he hadn't been with anyone at all since college, he hadn't really had time. He had devoted himself to the force. He got one of the Fortunata's to tell him that the tome was being help on Mercy Island for transport to Grandville where Scirocco could decipher it. Unfortunately he had to kill her. He couldn't have any witnesses. He headed for Mercy Island immediately.
When he arrived on Mercy he asked the local lowlifes and criminals about the tome until he found the location of the base it was being held in. He armed himself well knowing it would be guarded extremely well. He took out the few guards outside the base and made his way inside. To his surprise it wasn't as guarded as he had expected. Clearly a sloppy job on Scirocco's part. He made his way through the base, traveling down the dark Arachnos corridors and dimmly lit rooms. He managed to kill every soldier he saw in the base with little effort. Arachnos wasn't known for hiring well trained officers. He regretting having to kill them but he could not risk the mission getting compromised in any way. After what felt like hours wandering the endless halls of the base he came across a well guarded and secured room. The room was guarded by several Arachnoid robotic units and a few Bane Spiders but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He planted a grenade on the door and ran for cover. The grenade exploded with a loud boom, blowing the door off it's hinges. He readied his rifle incase there were any remaining Arachnos inside the room, and to his surprise there was only one. An elite Black Widow assassin. He tried to shoot at her but she was too quick. He tossed his gun aside and they began to fight, hand to hand. During his police training he had taken several self-defense courses for emergencies. At that moment he was glad he did. She was extremely fast, dodging his hooks and using her extremely nimble body to kick and punch him. He grew angry and when she was least expecting it he landed a roundhouse kick to her face. She went barreling to the floor, losing complete conciousness. He picked up his rifle and was about to finish her off when he heard a sound from behind him, footsteps. He also heard the sound of a weapon being cocked, twice. "Arachnos soldiers don't dual wield weapons," he thought to himself as he slowly turned. He went to ready his weapon when he heard a strangely familiar voice telling him to drop his weapon. He tossed his gun to the floor and removed his helmet. He stared into those familiar eyes. It was Rentis.
Rentis Krogen, the man that changed Glenn's life. The man that had shown him love and affection. His best friend in college. A million memories flooded Glenn's mind but he knew he had a job to do first and foremost. "Hello Rentis," he said cautiously. Rentis's eyes widened as his ears confirmed what his eyes had told him. He immediately lowered the pair of handguns he had been aiming at Glenn and looked at him as if he had seen a ghost. Glenn turned toward the desk in the back of the room where the tome had been sitting. He picked it up and turned back toward Rentis. "Is this what you're here for?" he questioned. Rentis nodded. Glenn knew that if Rentis had come to the Rogue Isles it must have been important and not just some treasure hunt. "Let's get out of here, we can talk on the way out," Glenn stated. The two talked briefly about the past few years, Glenn told Rentis about his police and Longbow work. Rentis had told Glenn about some of his archaeological discoveries. Glenn always knew he would discover things nobody else could find. Rentis also explained about the Mira and what exactly it was he needed the tome for. He had thought it was the key to finding a device, a weapon, that was capable of great destruction.
As they neared the exit they spotted two shadowy figures coming toward them. They each readied their weapons and took aim. As the figures grew closer Glenn could make them out to be Captain Mako and Ghost Widow, two of Lord Recluse's other patrons. "Scirocco must have convinced them to oversee the transport personally," Glenn thought to himself. When they were close enough to see into each others eyes Ghost Widow ordered them to drop their weapons and turn over the tome or else. Glenn knew the kind of power that the two of them possessed and he was well aware that they were outnumbered despite the odds being even. He looked at Rentis for a moment before looking back in the direction of the others. They were going to have to try and fight their way out. Lord Recluse could not acquire the tome. Hopefully one of them would survive and get the tome out so that it could be hidden from Lord Recluse. Rentis fired the first shot, at Ghost Widow, hoping to get a quick advantage. The bullet however, didn't even phase her. Captain Mako began to charge Glenn as Ghost Widow began channeling negative energy at the two of them. They tried the best they could to fight off the two far superior foes but they were no match. Glenn fell to the floor, bloodied and bruised from the vicious sharkman. He could barely move. Rentis wasn't as injured but Ghost Widow's energy had drained the life out of him. She ordered Mako to stop as she approached Rentis's weakened body. She looked into his eyes and he could do nothing else but look back, his eyes widening as her haunting eyes stared deep into his own. A small smirk formed on her face as she stood up. She then bound Rentis's body with her dark powers before instructing Mako to kill Glenn. Rentis let out a loud cry as Mako lifted Glenn off the floor. He had tried to muster enough energy to escape the sharkman's grip but he was too badly injured. He had no strength left. He let out cries of pain as Mako began shredding his flesh before finally stabbing him in the abdomen with his razor sharp claws. Glenn could hear Rentis screaming fanatically as he began losing conciousness. Mako tossed his body to the ground. Glenn looked over to Rentis who was still bound with dark energy. Rentis was starting at him so intesely, as if trying to will Glenn's body to hold on. He managed to muster enough energy to tell Rentis he was sorry before finally losing conciousness, never to wake up.
A New Beginning
Glenn woke up in a hospital bed. The first thing he noticed was the incredibly bright lights of the room as he tried to open his eyes. He had felt as though he slept for years. He wasn't even sure how he had gotten to the hospital in the first place. His mind was cloudy and he felt extremely confused. A nurse walked in carrying a tray of food for him. He tried to ask her what happened but she had only said there was an accident. What they hadn't told him is that he had actually died from his injuries. His body was brought back to Longbow. They had tried to get Rentis to tell them about the events that had happened but he said nothing. It was then that they had decided to resurrect Glenn to get the information they needed. The process was complicated and highly controversial. The resurrection was completed successful and Glenn was debriefed on the incident that had occured. It was then decided that Glenn's assistance was no longer needed. They decided to reprogram his memories and remove any trace of the events with Rentis and the tome. They did not need another loose cannon out there screwing things up.
Glenn was told he had been undercover in Arachnos but was set up. They told him he had almost died but was saved by some Longbow members. He then spent the next few months in physical therapy trying to regain his strength and recover from his injuries. After he regained most of his strength he had decided to return to the streets of Paragon as an officer unaware of the situation that had arisen in the Rogue Isles.
The Bio of Rentis Krogen expands on this a bit.
