Hack Value
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Dominique was born in Cap au Diable in February 1997 to Robert and Caitlyn Allaire. The newly weds had come from Mercy Island looking for work and a fresh start. While the new neighborhood was much better than the hovel they shared in Mercy, that didn't keep Robert from being killed in a mugging just a year after the birth of his daughter. Caitlyn, barely capable of taking care of herself let alone a baby, soon found herself a new man: Marco.
Now Marco always provided for his new lady and her kid. A member of the Family and pitboss at the Golden Giza he had an image to uphold, and no one would every say that Marco Castellone couldn't take care of his own. But Marco was not generous or kind, and everything had a price. He took payment from Caitlyn as most men might, but Dom received other attention. Fourteen years, 92 broken bones, 2 concussions, 3 severe burns due to scalding, and incalculable minor cigarette burns, and that's just what can be found in the medical records. Only the ancestors know what they didn't take her to the hospital for.
So Dominique did the only thing she could and withdrew from the world. Too ashamed and afraid to face the real world, she found a new world: the internet. Being small and weak meant nothing on the web where the mind gave a person power. The girl was beyond gifted, able to figure things out for herself; she could understand the code. By the age of ten Dominique was already an accomplished cracker, causing mischief and challenging herself.
Another five years passed, and all of it continued, while Caitlyn simply turned a blind eye to all of it. Dominique though was smarter than they knew, and soon came to see how things were changing. She wasn't a little girl any more, she was a young woman. She saw the look in Marco's eyes beginning to change into something even darker, and knew she had to get out.
A month after her fifteenth birthday she finally found her way out. A new Crey Pharmaceutical warehouse was opening in Cap au Diable, and a new Freakshow group called the L3G1oN had moved into the area. And the only thing Freaks liked as much as new technology, was new drugs. Dominique made contact with the leader of the L3G1oN, known as T35t4m3nt, and his lieutenant Cr4nk, through their online presence. She would provide them with security codes and guard information, and they would provide her with something she could use to protect herself.
The meeting on Sharkhead Isle went as well as she had hoped, although meeting T35t4m3nt in person left her a little awed. Even for a Freakshow Tank he was massive, yet well-spoken without the l33t-speak and jitters of most of his kind. The whole time he watched her with an unnerving glance, seemingly sizing her up. T35t4m3nt was everything in real life that she was online, something not lost on either of them.
The item they brought was a ray gun powered by the strange red coral that everyone on Sharkhead Isle was going mad over. There was no talk of where or who they had gotten it from, but a quick demonstration showed that it worked. The big Freakshow handed it over in exchange for the codes, taking it on faith that she wasn't trying to cheat them. As they parted, T35t4m3nt offered her one more thing: a place in his order. The L3G1on, a fast-growing technocult, could use someone with her talents, and they could protect her and provide a good home for her. Thinking it over for a few moments, she eventually declined, insisting that she had to do things on her own for now. A silent nod was the only reply before the Freakshow left with their new codes.
Dominique spent two weeks on the streets of the isles before she found her way to Father Gerard Henri's Home for Wayward Youth. She had gotten the name from a worker at a soup kitchen in Sharkhead Isle, and with no money and nowhere to get online, she sought the home out. Before long the young woman had something she had never really had before, a family, even if this family had more secrets than most.
Chief among those secrets was the Order, a small group of gifted children who were training to be heroes, or at least the closest thing to heroes that the Isles would allow. With her gift for computers and technology, Dominique made an obvious addition to the Order and has taken to it with as much enthusiasm as the girl can muster for anything.

Training
As a member of the Order, Dominique is subject to training that goes far beyond the scope of the regular vocational trades that most wards of the Home receive. The Home's instructors have been specifically chosen to offer the children as many opportunities to learn new and useful skills as possible.
Computers and Electronics
While there is little that Travis Schaffer can teach Dominique about computers, the reformed Freakshow does have experience to share. Dominique has taken to employing the security strategies Schaffer has taught her in protecting the Home's servers and grounds. She even aided Schaffer in installing and maintaining new equipment in the Order's secret base of operations deep below the Home. In addition to her training, Dominique also teaches the younger Wards of the Home the basics of computers and typing, an exercise she assumes is meant to help her develop god-like levels of patience and self-control.
Dominique is also learning about electronics, which has proven invaluable in her work with the Order. Relying on gadgets to compensate for her lack of powers, the young hacker is constantly repairing and upgrading the second-hand equipment she scavenges from the battlefields.
Demolitions
Training in explosives wasn't really Dominique's idea, not until she was caught with a shape charge laying out on her workbench, oblivious to what she had found. The Home's construction instructor, Cheyenne Nocon, took it upon herself to add new training to Dominique's schedule in an effort to prevent any unfortunate accidents of the 'school reduced to rubble' variety.
Cheyenne has even paired the hacker with one of the Order's long-time members, Petra Martin. While the other girl's ability to manipulate magnetic fields tends to play havoc with most of Dominique's gear, and explosives in the general, the two are developing a demolitions system using very simple, floating pipe bombs.
Hand-to-Hand
It was not long after Dominique arrived at the Home and joined the Order that people began to notice her propensity to take a beating. While most people assume that she's a terrible fighter, which she admittedly is, it was the school's councillor Jacqueline Anasi that saw a deeper issue at hand and insisted on training the girl in basic hand-to-hand combat.
While Dominique's small frame and lack of muscle mass limit her hand-to-hand potential, she is fast learning from Anasi how to protect herself from attacks from larger, or even multiple, opponents. Dominique still uses her gun to battle evil during the occasions that call for it, but people are beginning to notice the sharp decline in severe beatings the young woman has taken in recent weeks.
Just a Girl
Apart from all the hubbub of the Order, Dominique is just a normal teenage girl, which is just further proof of how meaningless the term 'normal' is when applied to teenage girls. While most girls her age are interested in boys, clothes, makeup, and celebrities, Dominique has little interest in any of those. This indifference has led to the assumption of many that she's goth, gay, or both. While to the best of her knowledge she is neither of those things, the rumours persist, though one suspects this has much to do with one of the Home's most dislikeable wards, Cecilia DeVille.
Outside of computers, the abrasive nerd girl is a skilled practitioner of parkour. Every fad dies, and parkour in the isles was no exception. When kids realized they would not be performing massive jumps out of the gates, and that the sport was essentially running, most abandoned it as 'stupid'. Dominique was one of the few that didn't, and four years after the death of parkour, she is able to perform the types of maneuvers most kids thought they would get to do right away. Using her fairly unique style, Dominique is able to navigate the streets of the Isles with speed and ease. The constant running also provides her with tremendous stamina and cardiovascular fitness, and a way to escape her troubles which is something the girl has had constant need of during her short life.
When she isn't running, on a computer, or training, Dominique can usually be found reading in some quiet part of the Home. Her preferred genres are cyberpunk and mystery novels, but she is open to anything that might be of interest to her. Dominque's favourite book is the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, although it might be more accurate to say that her favourite character is Lisbeth Salander. These tastes translate into movies as well. Unfortunately for her, the Home does not have an impressive stock of these types of books, or movies.
Dominique's musical preferences are a haphazard mess to say the least. A product of the internet's vast collaborations, Dominique tends to move between styles and bands seemingly at random. One day it will be the Dubstep or Heavy Metal people expect of her, the next it will be Jazz, Herbie Hancock blasting out of the computer speakers.
