General
Jason Cooke, AKA Heart's Fire, is a student at Paragon University. His studies in Biology are what ultimately gave him his powers. However, he knows that there is much more to being a superhero than simply having powers - and he constantly strives to improve himself, both mentally and physically.
History
Cooke was accepted to Paragon University on a football scholarship. Playing the position of Tight End, he became well-known for his versatility and dependability. During a pivotal playoff game in his Junior year, that all changed. Attempting to catch an errant pass, he made a valiant blind leap. The ball was caught, but a defender was there waiting for him and viciously slammed him to the ground. Badly injured, Jason lost his grip on the ball, and the pass was ruled incomplete. Paragon lost that game, and Cooke was rushed to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had injured his spine. He was crippled from the waist down. With therapy, it was possible that perhaps he'd walk again - but his football career was over.
Distraught but determined to make something of himself, Jason turned to his previously-neglected Biology major. He had been studying heroes - Super and otherwise - to determine what set them apart from the common man. He found that there is a certain potential within everyone, which only true heroes can fully unlock - he called this phenomenon "Heart's Fire" and sought to unlock his own.
The process was long and painstaking, but when at last he succeeded, Jason Cooke rose from his wheelchair and finally walked again. Not long afterward, he found that some unintentional 'side-effects' had occurred...
Powers
He now had various fire-based superpowers, and his natural strength and speed were amplified nearly tenfold. He felt more focused, more aware of his surroundings, and quite simply more powerful. At first he wanted to return to football, but the University would not accept super-powered individuals in its sports teams - "in the spirit of fairness", they said. Undeterred, Cooke decided to seek a higher calling. He registered himself as a superhero and set off to fight crime.
Personality
Though he is an athlete, Cooke is not a dumb jock, though he's not incredibly intelligent either. He is strong and highly loyal to his friends, ready and willing to come to their aid at a moment's notice. He is fierce and fearless in combat, but he is actually quite unsure of himself... he wonders whether he has "the right stuff" to be a superhero, realizing that such an achievement takes more than just powers. He mostly refers to himself by his real name, and he refuses to wear tights, capes, etc. since he doesn't think of himself as a "true hero" yet. He's also quite shy, especially around the opposite sex.
Supergroup
None, though he is currently looking.
