My first villain, Strom has somehow avoided deletion the same way he's dodged many bullets in his fictional life, by being frickin' huge and cool looking.

Former tenant at the Orphanage run by Jeanette Brigs aka Cosma.

Personality

Gruff, short spoken, and generally cowboy-like, it really serves to hide a compassionate, friendly, loyal side that only shows to those he trusts completely. Simultaneously intense and humorous, he tries to act as tough as possible, but is generally done in by the need he feels to be a "good guy."

Powers

Fire and Thermal Manipulation

A mutant by birth, an experimental Crey nanobot injection overrode (altered by Jon Fargo) his natural powers, turning him into what is essentially a human blast furnace. Able to create gouts of flame, as well as use warmth and heat to heal and bolster others, he has shown an ability to use the heat he creates to burn away poisons and drugs from his body, including alcohol and many painkillers.

Flight

Whether he is naturally able to fly, or able due to the changes to his physiology is unknown, but nevertheless Helostrom takes full advantage of the freedom it grants him.

Character History

Dark Childhood

The elder son of an abusive drunk and neglecting junkie, Jacob Wyatt was born on January 9, 1981 in Paragon Heights, the part of the city now called Galaxy City. He drew the ire of his father at an early age, and suffered under the man's hand for nearly 14 years, mostly to protect his little brother, Nick.

A mutant, he was born with toxic abilities, and the amazing power to process nearly any toxin or drug into further fuel for his own toxins. Able to channel this power into his touch or even his breath, he began to take drugs at the age of twelve, when his power manifested, never truly hooked or even affected by the drugs, even superpowered drugs such as supradyne and its ilk. He mainly used the power he gained from these drugs to discourage bullies and defend the kids smaller than himself, but usually ended up in trouble with teachers and other school faculty for the way he did it, leaving bullies paralyzed or choking on their own breath in the halls of school.

However, at the age of fourteen, his own father sold the boy to Crey Biotech for an undisclosed amount of money, and the boy was taken by force to a series of Crey labs for strange tests.

Five years of Hell

In Crey's custody from mid 1995, Jacob was subjected to many tests, mostly determining the extent of his natural abilities. Assigned as a special project, Jacob's abilities were researched for two years before funding was shut down and he was moved to a facility in Overbrook for the last three years of his captivity, held as one of fifty subjects for dual projects, Therasin and Nueva. For the majority of his time, he had little human contact, and none with the other subjects. Over time, he discovered that they had similar abilities, but had not survived the procedure to install the electronic controls needed for Therasin's goals.

He underwent the procedure on his ninteenth birthday, and somehow, unlike the other subjects, survived, so many blood samples were taken by Crey scientists for use in Project Nueva. However, Dr. Jon Fargo discovered how Jacob had come to become a test subject, and tampered with the control modules prior to their installation. This tampering gave Jacob his fire based abilities, and allowed Jacob to finally overpower the guards and escape, burning down much of the lab in the process.

Revenge, and the birth of Helostrom

Within weeks of his escape, Jake found Nick, huddled in a back alley in Atlas Park and began to take care of his little brother again. On February 14, 2000, Valentine's Day, the apartment building that had long housed the Wyatt family was burned to the ground, killing only two people, Louis and Mary Wyatt. Although the brothers knew that it was indeed Jake's work that had caused the fire, the then fledgling Hellions were blamed for the fire.

By the end of March that year, the two had moved into their own apartment, but hiding his activity from Nick, Jake had begun to work as a mercenary of sorts within Paragon's underworld. Distinguished by the large pair of shoulder pads he had to wear to hide and protect the control mechanisms that had been implanted in him, he became a regular in minor crimes in the city, flying just below the level of violence that would attract heroes.

It was this way for a little over a year, when on July 3, 2001, Jake beat a boy, Nick's best friend no less, to within an inch of his life, for striking Jake's girlfriend. When he realized that Nick had seen the level of violence he was capable of, he immediately surrendered to police, leaving the heroes and officers that had arrived in response baffled. He accepted his fate and plead guilty to the charges, attempted murder and aggrivated assault. Serving his time in the Zig, where metahuman abilities were surpressed, Jake used his imposing size to keep safe in prison. Taking the name he used in the underworld, Helostrom, as his main identity, he kept mainly to himself in prison, riding out the storm of the first Rikti War in his cell, even while other inmates rioted or protested to take a shot at the alien invaders.

On October 31, 2005, after four years in prison, Arachnos launched the first wave of break outs at the Ziggursky prison, and Helostrom was among them. For the first months of his newfound freedom, he stayed to himself, occasionally performing work to survive and scare off gangers that had escaped or planted themselves in the Rogue Isles that would attack him.

Helostrom, Demon Hunter, kinda

In early 2006, Strom ran into the villain Spraymarrow in Pocket D, and through her met Jeanette Briggs, AKA Cosma. She allowed Strom to join the group called simply The Orphanage, and became a good friend. While there, he learned that the sister of fellow tenant Susan Taylor was missing, and as the investigation continued, that the missing girl was controlled by a group of demons known only as the Horde.

While fighting alongside his new friends against the minions of the Horde, Strom fell for Dark-Spectre, Alexa Imanova, an assassin and fellow tenant at the Orphanage, after she had a short relationship with Trevor Pillman. The two stayed together for a long while, but it's unclear whether the two are still together, as they have not been seen together in a long while.

Also during this time, Nick, transformed by mutation himself, also ended up in the Isles, forcibly taken against his will from prison. Strom made sure that Nick was taken in by the Orphanage, but stayed mostly away from his little brother, thinking that he couldn't regain his brother's respect.

Unable to reconcile much of the happenings in the Isles with his own goals, Strom took to staying out of Orphanage affairs as he discovered that the Horde was defeated, somehow. A short time later, Nick had been cleared to move back to Paragon, and even become a hero. Strom watched the news for his brother's exploits, but generally stayed low key during this time.

Tricked, the Marauder, and Beyond

In January 2007, a man known simply as X hired Strom to take down Zoe Fix alongside Clockwork Dawn. Informed that his task was to make sure the job was done, and that if necessary he'd have to attempt to take down Dawn, he took it on, not knowing of Zoe's connection to Nick. During the fight, Nick appeared and the two had a short face off, declaring each other enemies before going their separate ways.

Feeling he had been tricked, Strom spent time again low key in the Isles before briefly resurfacing for a short while as a vigilante based out of the Nerva Archipeligo. Around the same time, he once again encounted Nick, and Nick's girlfriend, Tonia. Reconciling their differences, Nick and Jake decided to work together once again. Now, Tonia works to bring relief to those she can in the Rogue Isles, while Jake and Nick help her in the ways they can.

Aware of some of the details of Nick's current problems in Paragon, he knows he's been cloned, and that he has a neice of sorts. However, he has not met them, or directly involved himself in the affairs of his new family. But if need be, he's ready to.
