The Beginning
A former bookstore clerk, Orestes Jeffereys led a dull life in a suburb of Springfield, Illinois. Nothing ever changed, and already he felt trapped and hopeless. One day, however, everything changed. He has no memory of the event, but somehow his recollection stops while cataloging the Mystery section and picks back up in a cave surrounded by the Circle of Thorns. He found himself in the company of the shapeshifter Weylin Grey, the tiny werewolf Takii, and a sentient "wolf-creature" calling herself Kaji-Urufu. Having regained his faculties, Orestes (having been designated by Arachnos as the Hunted Ravager) found that he instinctively craved Kaji's companionship; they had the makings of their own pack, but first they needed members. As Orestes has more of a literary mind than a scientific one, he is content to let Kaji work on the scientific aspect of finding their packmates, as he works to improve their reputation and develop infamy throughout the Isles.
The Black Fang
As their clout in the Isles increased, Orestes and Kaji founded an official villain group that was to be their pack: the Black Fang. In just barely two weeks, the pack exploded in size, going from two to nearly a dozen members. Despite Kaji being the brains of the operation, the pack still lacked a clear Alpha, and Kaji announced that there would soon be a contest to determine who would lead the pack. As an additional prize, the Alpha would have first pick of a mate. The wolves all began training rigorously, and Orestes in particular threw himself into combat with reckless abandon, feeding on battle to grow relentlessly stronger.
Finally, on a gloomy Friday, the Black Fang gathered in a lonely cemetery to hold the contest. The earth itself trembled with the ferocity of the battle, but in the end Orestes was the victor, triumphing over all other contestants, including Kaji herself. He claimed Kaji as his mate, Alpha Female and matriarch of the pack. Kaji has not once made him regret this decision, and she plays mother to the pack very well. Now that the Black Fang has its leaders, Orestes is certain that they will become a force to rival Arachnos. All they need is time, and that is clearly on their side.
Fringe
Even before the contest for Alpha had even been envisioned, Orestes and Kaji had dreamed up an idea for creating more of their kind. Using Kaji's scientific brilliance and Orestes' unstoppable strength, the pair acquired ingredients to create their own super drug, nicknamed 'Fringe.' As they continue to produce and refine the drug, and invite humans into their pack as retainers to test Fringe, it is only a matter of time before hundreds of wolves would be surging through the Isles, all of them under Orestes' sway.
Personality
Orestes could be best described as a gentle engine of destruction. Toward his friends he is a kind, loving giant, always with a kind word and perpetually ready to offer support and aid. To his enemies, he is a living nightmare, an unstoppable storm of savagery. He greatly enjoys such brutal slaughter, to the point that he sees it as foreplay. Despite his bestial nature, however, Orestes is highly intelligent, well-read and possessed of a strategic and cunning mind. He doesn't do well with advanced planning, but his on-the-fly strategies have left even such chessmasters as Lord Recluse and the Center stunned and helpless.
Powers and Abilities
- Lupine Might: Ravager possesses immense, almost obscene strength. Although normal combat situations place his strength at several times that of a normal human, his strength at other times has been observed to be great enough to crumple metal like paper and exceed that of established supervillains. There could technically be no limit to his maximum strength.
- Unnatural Hide: Ravager's durability is debatable, as he has been observed to suffer wounds as any normal human, but other times projectiles seem to simply bounce off of him. It seems that as his feral nature takes over, he becomes more and more resistant to damage, and existing wounds heal almost instantly.
- Unbound Ferocity: Perhaps the most terrifying aspect of Ravager's known powers is the fact that he seems to feed on combat. Extended battles and large brawls only serve to make him more powerful, and a dark aura surrounds him. It almost seems that he grows larger and more imposing as the battle continues, actually gorging himself on the pure frenzied madness of conflict.
Weaknesses
- Bestial Nature: The very thing that gives Ravager his obscene power is also his greatest flaw: his feral tendencies lead to recklessness and potential bouts of madness. While nothing too dagerous has come of it yet, the threat still looms of Orestes one day losing his humanity and destroying everything in his path.
Friends/Acquaintances/Allies
- Kaji-Urufu: Orestes' first actual packmate, and also the person he counts as his first true friend, Kaji has been with Orestes every step of the way since his first appearance in the Isles. The pair are exceedingly close, and work together almost constantly. On average, if one sees either Kaji or the Hunted Ravager, chances are good the other is somewhere close by.
Enemies/Archnemises/Rivals
- Ghost Widow: Having traveled the path from close ally, to archenemy, to friendly rival, Ghost Widow has had a tumultuous relationship with the massive wolf. As of the moment, she seems content with watching his progress, and helping or hindering depending on her mood.
