Jastra Tarnruth
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Jastra Tarnruth (JAH-struh TAHRN-ruhth) is a character based upon the D&D campaign setting of the Forgotten Realms. That having been said, the only references of similarity between her and the guidelines within the Forgotten Realms books is that she is a "Moon Elf" (Lunar Elf, Elf of Luna).

Homeland
Jastra Tarnruth's homeland is not anywhere on this Earth. She is an interdimensional creature and, as such, has been in a real culture shock since her arrival in Paragon City, Rhode Island.
Wyn'Maer
Wyn'Maer is the name of the "world" or "planet" from which Jastra came. The climate is similar to that of the Earth's, but there, light is provided by two stars--Quinell during the day and Luna at night. The Elves of Luna occupy an East Coast seaboard of the main continent. This area is called Constel.
Constel
The Elves of Luna control and occupy a portion of land that stretches from the Dar'Qnath Sea westward toward the Plains of Krodesh. The North/South boundaries are the Rosemead Mountains and the Chrons River. Inhabitants of the surrounding areas include humans, gnomes, dwarves, and the Tigleh or Aquatic Elves.
Arbinath
The capital city of Constel is Arbinath. This is the city in which Jastra and her twin brother Mourn were born. Arbinath is on the sea coast and sees merchant ships from the Dragon Isle and Kroh, the Orc territory in the East. Because of the residency of the people and the vast cultural differences within Arbinath, Jastra can speak several languages--most of which do her no good in Paragon.
Affiliations
While in Constel, Jastra allied herself with the Archer's Guild and the Assassin's Guild, though she claimed to be a non-participatory member. If any were to have the means to check her story, they would find that she is misleading in that area. Upon her arrival in Paragon City, she found herself seeking out those she could trust. M.A.G.I. directed her first to Hero Corps, then to a group called Nova Watch, part of the Renascent Alliance. Through this organization, she has met such interesting characters as Darkestrike, Lady Reiki, Thaneval, Coldwave, and Tarosvan. So far, she does not dislike any of them... much.
Powers
Jastra is a Defender, a protector. She helps those who either cannot help themselves or are otherwise pre-occupied and cannot help themselves.
Storm Summoning
Mourn Tarnruth, Jastra's twin, was much more advanced in his study of magics. He enjoyed healing other people and singing the praises and lauds of battles past. He was a bard of sorts and none of that interested Jastra. What did interest her, however, was the ability to control the weather--a technique which would serve her well and test the bond that twins share. She learned to pull energy from the atmosphere to heal--however lightly--her comrades in battle. She also can cloak herself and her team in a fog to hide them from prying eyes and create a chilly spot that causes "shiver" damage. The weather in Paragon is much different than the weather in Arbinath...so, she does struggle in her learning.
Archery
Jastra showed great promise with archery when she was but a young elf. Her father took her out and helped to develop her skills. She can usually hit her target squarely without much thought, though, with a little extra effort, she can hit the target harder. She has also discovered how to fire multiple arrows at once, hitting more than just one target at a time.
Flight and Teleportation
Rifts in time and space can be dangerous. Jastra discovered this information rather uncerimoniously when she was thrust through an inadvertent portal during an invasion. Since then, she has been working on trying to re-open the portal to her home dimension...with little success. All she has been able to do, thus far, is pull her teammates to her. As she is able to control the winds, she puts them to work for her to carry her to the places she needs to go. Air currents move her along quickly and with relative safety...unless there is a sniper about...
Character History
This character is new to Paragon City, but has a rather interesting past. Only brief snippets appear here. The rest is most likely tucked away in the deep recesses of the creator's brain...screaming...
Two Lives Born
Elven twins were a rare thing for the Elves of Luna. Only one set came along every thousand years--and those twins were blessed of Luna and Quinell. They had a purpose in their lives and were typically regarded in high standings with the rest of the community.
Mourn and Jastra were no different. They never wanted for anything. They were treated almost as royalty from birth. They were taught and trained by the best tutors and were encouraged to try many different skills and trades. Mourn found himself a masterful bard with an impish ability to disguise and throw his voice. Jastra, on the other hand, found herself quite happy with archery and some various...roguish...traits. She was good at lockpicking and even better at trapping--a skill which came in handy when the two went hunting. She dabbled in magic, mostly in regards to the weather, but often allowed her brother to work with his own bardic abilities.
Love Lost
During her one hundred and twenty-third year, Jastra met Taeghan Silvermane. The two fell in love with each other and worked together quite frequently. He was a notable member of the Assassin's Guild in Constel and Jastra joined the group to be with him. He taught her some more stealthy means of acquiring the enemy information and she taught him how to wield a bow. Orthro Darkbane, another of the guild's members, did not like the relationship of the young assassins, however. He betrayed Taeghan's identity and Taeghan lost his life. Jastra entered hiding and remained for thirty years--not allowing herself to be seen until her one hundred and sixtieth birthday.
Two Lives Separated
In the twins' one hundred and sixty-third year, a group of half-orc and human marauders from the East sneaked into the city of Arbinath. Jastra and Mourn were at the Tavern, sipping on some herbal mead. The marauders began to attack and Mourn began to sing. Jastra shot off a few arrows, but one of the half-orcs threw her into a wall. Mourn did his best to heal his sister and shriek to scare off the invaders. Somewhere amidst all the chaos, however, a portal opened. One of the humans grabbed Jastra by her legs and flung her into the portal. The last thing she remembers hearing was the shrieking of her brother.
To Paragon...and Beyond
Since her arrival in Paragon City, Jastra has been full of questions. Things are very different in the world of men than they are in her own world. Most things, she accepts relatively easily, some things, however...take a little bit of getting used to. One of the people she is thankful to have met is Thaneval. He reminds her of her world and the Umptee (Changelings) there. She has gifted him a name in her own language, as well--Aratovanima, or Beautiful Champion.
Darkestrike poses an enigma to her. She finds him to be quite hung up on formalities, but plays along with them, mostly because she regards him as a high lord or some other form of nobility. In her own words, Darkestrike is "a unique but intriguing human."
Another "unique but intriguing human" is the person of Tarosvan. Trey has very generously, thus far, humored Jastra in answering her many questions of why things are how they are within the world of men. She has also had opportunity to teach him some very basic elvish as he has been able to teach her very basic Shawnee. Tarosvan is the only person thus far to know anything of Jastra's past.
