Identity
Josephine Newton, working under the code name Jo Psion, first came to our attention due to her association with Arsenal Omega, aka Miles Gray, and Bodycount Unlimited, a band of mercenaries. Other than a short stint in the Zigursky Penitentiary on charges of assault and petty larceny, little is known of her background.
Origin
Jo Psion openly claims to be a mutant. It is believed that she acquires her mutant powers through ingestion of an unidentified blue liquid she keeps upon her person, purportedly first obtained at a back-alley bar on Mercy Island. (Surprisingly, a subsequent investigation of the bar and its employees turned up no evidence of illegal substances, including the, so called, “blue brew.” It was deemed highly unlikely that an establishment of this type would be inculpable and it warrants further investigation.) She seems to be able to mutate at will with this concoction, leading us to speculate that she has also discovered an antidote.
Presumably she now prepares the mutant formula herself. Ms. Psion is often seen at the black market making purchases. Unfortunately, she varies her purchases a great deal so that specific ingredients for this formula have not been identified.
Her mutated form includes hair color change (to blue), cat ears*, and possible other facial mutations. She wears a veil while mutated. No one, to our knowledge, has seen what lies underneath. All else appears human. Her powers evidently manifest themselves while in this form.
- There is some dissension amongst our investigators whether or not the cat ears are real or a part of her costume. And, in fact, there is even disagreement as to whether or not she is a true mutant, as she exhibits the traits of someone who transforms herself at will, rather than someone who has mutated to a new, permanent form.
Powers
Psion’s primary power apparently has an affect on the gravity field around her. She is capable of both immobilizing her foe with an increased gravity field and, at the opposite end of the spectrum, lessening the gravity field and tossing them around at will.
She is also able to summon energy into some type of focused beam that has the potential to knock her foes off their feet. She has not appeared to master that form of attack. The beam is generated by an unknown source of energy.
While her immobilization abilities, in and of themselves, are a moderately-low threat, the real danger lies in her choice of companions. The members of Bodycount Unlimited, deliver a powerful one-two punch, with Ms. Psion immobilizing foes and the other members moving in to deal lethal damage.
One informant recounted, "Oh, sure, she looks like a pussycat, but don't look into her eyes. It was like a deer staring into the headlights of an oncoming car. I couldn't move! Then she threw some piddly bolt at me that gave me a bit of a buzz, but did no serious damage. I just laughed at her. That was…until her cohorts came and beat the snot out of me."
Assesment
Initially, Jo Psion was thought to be no more than a lackey and only a low-level threat. However, subsequent inquiries have shown that her quiet determination and steadfast perseverance have led her to a position of leadership within the group.
Strategies on how to neutralize Jo Psion and her cohorts can be found in the more detailed file on Arsenal Omega.
