"Umm..." |
Josh Parker is dead. Or at least thinks that he might be dead. He is very confused as to how he ended up in Paragon City.

History
Josh is very vague about his history prior to arriving in Paragon City. Although he claims to remember everything from his childhood through to his apparent demise, he hasn't been forthcoming with details. All that he says is that he was hit by a truck while crossing a street, and when he woke up, he was in an alley in Paragon City.
Powers
Although he claims that he didn't have any powers prior to his arrival in Paragon City, Josh has no trouble using any of them, reflecting a familiarity that is at odds with his claims. Perhaps it is instinctual, but he doesn't elaborate.
Static Shield
When in danger, Josh can summon a shield to protect him from a number of attacks. This shield manifests itself as what looks like localized TV static, partially obscuring him from view as it surrounds him. Attacks seem to disrupt the static by creating more static, essentially preventing him from being injured. However, when the shield runs out of power, Josh becomes completely vulnerable.
Static Wounds
Josh does not get wounded the way normal people do. When injured, he doesn't bruise or bleed, but instead, the wounded area dissolves into static, much like his shield. Although his limbs and appendages are still perfectly capable of functioning, he eventually gets a distorted look, as though there's some sort of interference. He's reasonably sure that if he were to be terribly wounded or even killed, he would simply dissolve into static and disappear, though he hasn't tested this theory. Mental attacks disrupt his entire body. He has stated that he cannot heal his wounds normally, and while healing magic or technology will allow him to continue functioning, he must undergo a separate process to heal any static wounds. He claims to not know how he does it, or even what he does, in order to reduce his static.
Summoned Sword
By simply concentrating, Josh is able to summon an impressive sword to his hand. He doesn't know how it works, or why he can summon a sword, but he uses it to defend himself with a skill that belies his claim to not know swordplay.
Mysteries
Josh is surrounded by mystery. Where did he come from? How did he get here? Many questions about his existence haunt him every day, making him unsure about himself and others. As much as he tries not to show his uncertainty, he's not very good at concealing his feelings, and he tends to manifest it as nervousness.
Origin
Josh claims that he can remember his entire life prior to arriving in Paragon City, but when pressed for details, he either gives inconsistent answers, or simply fails to provide any. This is as unnerving to him as it can be to others: if his history is like a book, he's only read the Cliff's Notes version, and he doesn't know why he can't remember the details.
Any particularly intensive search into his past will show that prior to arriving in Paragon, he didn't exist.
Contact
Josh says that he doesn't carry a cell phone, and he really doesn't. However, he gives out a phone number for people that attempt to get in touch with him. Anyone that dials the phone number receives a message that the number is not in service. As soon as they hang up, though, the phone rings...and it's Josh.
Off-Time
What does Josh do when he's not in the D or out on the streets? Anyone attempting to follow him will lose him as soon as they lose sight of him for even a second: he simply disappears. When asked what he does during the day, he claims that he does "stuff". So far, no one has questioned his reply.
Consumption
Josh eats food and drinks liquids. Or does he? Although he seems to enjoy eating and drinking, and his food and drink certainly seem to be consumed, anyone checking up on his plate later will see that it hasn't been touched.
Friends
Josh has made a few friends in Paragon.
- First on his list of friends would be Emerie Waters, who he befriended after a few days in Pocket D. Eventually, he realized that he was attracted to her, and that she was attracted to him. They are currently dating.
- Josh met Zyflix in the D as well, when he was approached by the strange looking mutant. Despite his somewhat scary appearance, Zyflix proved to be quite friendly, although apprehensive of Josh's apparent magic powers.
- Sharlisse, friendly with everyone and friend to all, met Josh just before he got into a fight on his first day in the D. He considers her a great friend and all-around awesome person.
- The first person he really befriended was Felicity (AKA Feliney Kitten). He was very surprised to learn that she has the ability to switch between a human and a cat form.
Stutter
Josh occasionally speaks with a stutter. Although a number of theories have been offered for exactly why this happens, one thing is certain: he doesn't realize that he stutters. In addition, a normal stutter usually sounds like the speaker is forcing themselves through the stutter. With Josh, he sounds more like a skipping record, as though he starts to say something, the record skips, and he starts to say it again.
The stutter seems to be erratic, coming and going with no apparent trigger. Josh has, on some occasions, been able to get rid of his stutter with a brief flash of static, though whether he's in control of that is anyone's guess.
True Origin
Josh was never alive to begin with. His memories, such as they are, are entirely false. The truth is that he wasn't the person hit by a truck, but instead it was a powerful and not altogether nice psychic that was hit. The impact but the psychic into a coma, but the man's subconscious maintained a presence, and eventually outwardly manifested...as Josh Parker.
Josh's static wounds are the result of the connection between the psychic and the construct being damaged. His sword is a power that the psychic possessed. His overall friendly demeanor is the psychic's subconscious living out some kind of fantasy life or dream. His stutter is occurs because the connection to the psychic is not perfect.
Josh recently learned this to be the truth, causing him to question whether he truly exists. He's keeping the information to himself for now, but with the revelation that Mobius Knight intends to look into his past, he's worried that it will leak out and his life, such as it is, will fall apart around him.
The psychic is also beginning to show signs of waking from his coma...
