Kerberos X
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Kerberos X is one of the first characters I made for CoH/V. Earlier incarnations of the character slowly evolved during my first days of playing, eventually becoming what he is today. His concept is heavily influenced by the Kerberos Saga by Mamoru Oshii. This character finally became my first 50 villain on April 19, 2008.
Kerberos X is an Assault Rifle/Traps Corruptor played by @KerberosX.

Physical Description
X is fairly tall and physically fit, conditioned by the Kerberos unit's training. He's not super strong, or super anything really, so lifting huge objects or going hand-to-hand with a Longbow Warden for example, is out of the question. Under his helmet he has short brown hair and tries to keep a shaved face. Other than that, nothing really distinguishes him physically from other normal people.
Character History
Kerberos X was once a "Panzer Cop" in an anti-riot unit of the Japanese Capital Police. Also named Kerberos, the unit served mainly as Japan's response to mob activity and violence since the early 1950s. Because of the German occupation, Kerberos was armed with WWII era weapons and trained in their tactics. The bulk of its forces carried MG34 and MG42 machineguns, and operated in small squads. Infamous for their brutal efficiency and aggressive tactics, Kerberos saw a majority of its action in the 50s and 60s during their fight against groups like the Sect, a powerful terrorist organization within Japan. Kerberos unit operated separately from the military and traditional police forces, which allowed them to use lethal force against such terrorists when necessary.
X's squad: 4th Assault Platoon, 2nd Company, was mostly made of recruits from other nations. He was transferred from the German army shortly after he completed training there to help bolster Kerberos unit's numbers to combat a rising terrorist force in Taiwan. They were equipped with newer Protect Gear, and G3 battle rifles. In total there were seven others in 4th Platoon: two German, three Austrian, and two Japanese. Since the unit was mixed like this, Markus is of course able to speak German, English, and comprehend some Japanese. Though 4th Platoon didn't see much action, they trained as hard as any other squad and won their share of inter-squad war games.
Kerberos Uprising
Not long after Markus' transfer and new training, a terrorist leader was killed by the Kerberos unit to avoid bringing him into police custody. Because of this, the unit was ordered to disarm and disband, but leaders of Kerberos refused and fortified their headquarters. The following conflict, known as the "Kerberos Uprising" pitted the unit against Japan's military and police forces. The days of fighting lead to the deaths of many, including a number of Markus' comrades and squad-mates. At some point during the defense of the Kerberos HQ, he and a handful of others were able to escape the area and eventually flee to various countries. Markus found himself on his way to the Rogue Isles.
Isles Life
Years passed and Markus slowly meshed into Isles society, and he was essentially forgotten; the Japanese military believing the members of Kerberos were all either arrested and serving sentences, or dead. Eventually he felt he was able to come out of hiding, and unpacked his old Protect Gear riot armor and weapons to offer mercenary work within the Isles. Soon he adopted the name "Kerberos X" like a play on words to mean Ex-Kerberos. Every skill he learned during Kerberos training was put to use, and it paid off well. It didn't take long to earn himself a respectable place in the world of hired guns on the Isles. Knowing he is still a criminal in the eyes of the Japanese Military, however, X makes sure he doesn't tread too close to the spotlight.
Personality
Unlike some of the others who were in service with Kerberos, X is fairly outspoken, and enjoys intelligent conversation. However, he's not particularly compassionate or emotional. Hearing the problems and pains of others isn't likely to merit any sympathy from him. During missions and other jobs X tends to stick to what he learned in training keep deadly silent, concentrating on the objective at hand and only speaking when necessary. Overall he displays a professional attitude and tries to think objectively. He isn't likely to jump into someone's business, or pick sides because of a predetermined sense of right or wrong. Often his decisions are made based on whether he or the mission profits from them in some way or not, regardless of anyone else involved.
Equipment
- Protect Gear: The most prominent feature of Kerberos X's equipment is his armor, or Protect Gear. It is of course bullet-proof, and his gas mask offers decent protection from environmental hazards such as poison gas, smoke, and other dangerous airborne material. Ammunition can be supplied from a backpack compartment which also holds a radio system and can carry other useful gear. The goggles perform a few sight-enhancing roles: Thermal, infra-red, and night vision are included along with a desaturation filter which can single out specific targets. A vast upgrade from previous models. The only downside to this is the goggles tend to malfunction when exposed to high levels of light like sun glare, and devices like flashbang grenades.
- Firearms: While the Kerberos unit's troops employed the use of German WWII era weapons, such as an MG42 light machine gun, Kerberos X prefers the newer and more practical G3 battle rifle. Its smaller size and higher accuracy perform well compared to the cumbersome MG42. He often carries a Mauser C96 pistol as a sidearm, and occasionally will make use of a Model 98 combat knife/bayonet when the situation permits. Ammunition is carried in his backpack or belt pockets, where pre-loaded G3 magazines and stripper-clips for his pistol are stored.
- Captured Equipment: During Kerberos X's time as a mercenary in the Rogue Isles he has captured, and in some cases been rewarded, various weapons and equipment. Such items as a forcefield generator and poison gas canisters have become powerful components in his arsenal.
