In the year 2106, the granddaughter of Hero 1 inherits ownership of the enchanted sword Excalibur from her father. Choosing to take on the name of a famous heroine from the early 21st century, she calls herself Legend Lass, and takes up the mantle of an Incarnate like her father and her grandfather before her, wielding the sword in the defense of her country and her world. She spends years mastering its use and becomes one of the world's most prominent heroes.

More than a decade after inheriting the sword, Gwenneth falls victim to a supervillain's trap, and is blasted more than a hundred years back in time, to a fateful year for Paragon City - the year that the Statesman died. Stranted in the past without Excalibur (the sword prevented from traveling in time by the mystical Fae), she carries a succession of lesser blades, breaking them apart with muscles used to the indestructible sword of her forefathers. She knows not to interfere with the modern Excalibur, to avoid disrupting its timeline.
