ORIGINS
Donnivan was always a smart guy, having graduated top of his class from Cambridge University, with Doctorates in both Technological studies (involving Fuel refinement and Principles), and Geology (involving Mineral research, such as samples extracted from Mars!) It was his young and intuitive mind that got him envolved with NASA, as a Mineral Specialist, with the leading degrees and theories into new practical implementations of new and Foriegn Materials. He studied under the minds that refined Impervium, and was part of the Molecular bonding to create new alloys for the Space Age metal.
A mission of a lifetime, one that would seal his career and land him the Nobel prize for Scientific achievement presented itself in a mission to Mars, involving Mineral study and molecular experimentation. The Mission was completely sabotaged by the intervention of an alien race, seeking genetic samples of the Ancestors of the Galactic Raiders, the Rikti. Donnivan and the Crew of the Alexandria, were taken captive by this enigmatic race. A great deal of what followed is lost to Donnivan as the Aliens Performed countless experiments on the crew involving mind alteration, tormenting psychic experimentation, and extensive genetic alteration. The Alexandria was reported Silent, Derilect, and its crew lost... nothing was known, and further investigation, found no trace of the lost vessel.
Somehow the opportunity for escape presented itself a great deal of time later, what would be documented in NASA historical records as four and a half years, when the Alexandria was suddenly reported back in the Solar System outside orbit of Neptune, broadcasting an S.O.S on broad wave radio spectrum. When a new mission was launched to recover the enigmatic lost vessel, the crew of the Advent discovered two life forms aboard the ship, both in cryo-stasis. However only one of the two had survived, as the female later identified as Sarah Carter, had succumbed to her wounds while in stasis.
The medical scans immediatly identified Donnivan as the other survivor, apparently in perfect stasis, however the entire operation was quickly deigned Black ops and escalated to the Highest secrecy. It was clear to the medical specialists involved in the recovery of Donnivan's stasis core that he was not exactly human anymore, and he was transfered back to Earth for Genetic research, and behavioral study. No one was quite sure what it was they had brought back, how dangerous it was, or exactly how it had gotten back.
Studies and experimentation discovered a rather dazed Donnivan Sands, who could not recall in any reliable detail the circumstances of Alexandria's disappearance, the sudden reappearance of the lost vessel, or the genetic changes to his person. Under continuous protests Donnivan was kept under constant surveilance and Highest security. It is unclear how long he was kept in this captivity and study, as he was kept ignorant of the passing of time, and was victim to many mental experimentations, and nearly constantly heavilly sedated.
However, fate seemed to have plans for the transplanted wanderer as terrorist activity resulting in sabotage of the research facility Donnivan was kept at, presented him the opportunity for escape. During the chaos of the screaming alarms, explosive tremors, and panicked evacuees, Donnivan got a glimpse of what assailed the facility. A team of Superhuman beings, in matching body armor were assaulting Highly advanced and technological soldiers, using otherwordly weapons. Donnivan, having been a captive for such a long time desperately avoided detection and made for an escape, after navigating what seemed like endless scientific research departments, he discovered a corporate logo at the buildings lobby. Through Wreckage,, crumbling concrete and steel, through flickering lights, and sparking cables, he saw who imprisoned him... CREY industries.
And Now...
After several months, Donnivan wandered the U.S. discovering there was a place where these "metahumans" called home, found solace... He made his way to Paragon City, "City of wonders" and discovered a world where he could blend. Questions about his strange capabilities, enhanced senses and strength might be more easilly avoided, or forgiven. He saw many more of these heroes, superhuman beings like those that had unwittingly garnered his freedom. It was then staring at the American Flag flying gloriously over Atlas Park City Hall, that he decided his destiny... And Liberty Shield was Born!
